Random question about raw feeding since the topic was brought up. Is fish absolutely nessecary? Or is using a fish oil pill OK instead? I'm not the biggest fan of dealing with fish innards, so if I can avoid it without compromising their diets I'd prefer to. Like, I love fishing, and I have no problem quickly cleaning a fish out by the river cause I just toss the innards back in for the otters that gather near the cleaning stations where I go fishing. But its way different cleaning one by the river and tossing the gross stuff real quick vs cleaning one in my house and having to trash the gross stuff.

It's good for variety but not necessary. Truth be told wild canines eat very little fish as a general rule. Their diet is mostly red meat.

I feed neither at the moment due to my allergies and am not sure if I will in the future. Since I'm allergic to fish there's a possibility that a fish oil pill still still trigger my allergies.

Awesome, thanks Jazi. I think when we get to our full raw feeding I'll just use fish oil pills. Cause their fur is so danged soft thanks to it being in their kibble now. I just don't want my house to smell like a fish market on resupply and portioning out days lol.

If it's not the best, could I have some
help finding a good Bergamasco breeder?
I'm still in the learning process of picking
out the ethical breeders out of the pool
of sub-par breeders, so any help is much
appreciated.

The best thing for you to do is go to dog shows and to events put on by the parent clubs for the breed.

I'm not asking for me ^_^ My friend
is interested in one of the pups, and
I'm doing them a favour. It's not possible
for them to go to dog shows or events.

@Joe Kerr, some of the things they've said worry me. Their founding bitch attacked a photographer that I guess was just too close? with very little warning. They don't mind or care that their dogs very reluctantly and slowly come when called and stop to inspect trees and such. They act like a dog growling at kids playing too roughly is part of a breed trait rather then a normal dog thing. (Note: I don't fault the dog for growling.) They claim that the pleats don't need that much care when they actually do. They're the same as cords just in a different style. They don't see posturing to another (strange) dog as a form of aggression.

There's no mention of health testing, the way they list the titles are somewhat confusing and not all of the dogs in the pedigrees have titles (though those could be working dogs.)

You have to be really careful. Turkey sold for human consumption is usually loaded with sodium and other chemicals (to make it taste more yummy) before it's even sold to be cooked. You want to avoid skin and fat trimmings, and anything that says anything about precooked, preboiled, blahblahblah and sodium should be under 100mg. Otherwise you run a really high risk of causing your dogs to have pancreatitus, and trust me when I say that's not fun to save your dog from because I had a GSD that had the same problem after a battle with bloat. Absolutely do not feed any turkey scraps once the bird is already cooked.

We usually give Mocha the organ bag from the turkey if the sodium is low enough. She likes feast days- she gets more yummy things in her food bowl

The turkey I give to Creed is a ground bone/meat tube not loaded up with all those chemicals because it's for pet food.

Oh, I just had a thought.

The only human-food turkey I buy is turkey necks. You could give Kiba a chicken neck since she's so small, and Wolf a turkey neck. Those are typically not treated so strongly (because they are not a "feast" cut like the whole bird is) and you can get them in packs for 1-5$ per pack.
