Shattered Truth
Why not step into the fire if you can't see it?
I am~ ”Talking to a new wolf.”
My current emotion~ ”Curious.”
My relationship status~ ”I’m too young.”
Hearing a response to her question True slowly released herself from her stance, her gray tipped ears perking up and her tail uncurled from between her legs and returned to its wagging state. Rising to her full weight which wasn’t much due to being a runt and shook out her unruly fur, knowing well it was sticking up in many directions but the female was fine with that. Turning her head towards the direction the wolf’s voice came from True sniffed the air again and made a small bound towards her. This was much quicker transportation and she found it to be more fun. Making another leap she stopped when she felt more heat and knew it was emitting from the stranger’s body. Wagging her tail rapidly the pup placed a paw out in front of her and felt the female’s paw in response knowing well enough she was in face to face distance. Well more like face to leg but the True didn’t mind. Rising up to her hind legs she inhaled deeply, letting the scents flow in and register into her mind. The she wolf smelled of mostly soil, trees, and mouse blood, no other scents from any other wolves lingered from her pelt. So the stranger must be a loner. ”You smell mostly of a loner so I know you’re not a pack wolf.” She voiced out her thoughts and cocked her head to the side, her cloudy eyes in the direction of the wolf but not exactly looking at her.

Aspen watched as the young pup came up from her stance, and turned her look away briefly to peer behind her. Where were the other wolves she was surely with? Were they waiting to pounce on her and the pup was simply a distraction. The obsidian fur on Aspen then bristled a bit; assuming this would be a trap; and a rather cruel one at that. What if the pup were to get hurt because of them? She raised her head back up some as she glanced around; only to snap her head back when the young pup touched her paw. "Dont you know better than the get too close to strangers?" Escaped her maw quickly as she pulled her paw back slightly; just enough to move it out of its meager entrapment. "Yes, i am a loner, young one. You do not smell of many other either." Aspen returned lightly, noting the smell of a musky wolf around the young female. "Where is the one you are staying with?" She then asked, curious about her safely. While Aspen was a little crude and unkind, pups and elders would always keep her kindness because of their age or how naive they are. Her blue orbs focused on the pups milky amber ones, not connecting the thoughts that roamed through her head just yet.

Resting down on her haunches True listened intently as if the she wolf was telling an interesting story, but the pup was just that well with listening. She never understood how other pups could ignore their elders and play around right in front of them when they’re talking. White Fang had taught her better and the pup was well respectful towards others. When she felt the quick swipe of air she knew the loner had pulled her paw away rather quickly and her next words peeked interest within her. ”Curiosity got the best of me?” True tried with a smile on her maw and lifted her shoulder blades in a feeble shrug. It was the truth, curiosity always got the better of her and she could never go against her own nature, it just wouldn’t be her. When the loner asked more questions Shattered Truth suddenly remembered that she had to get back to her brother soon or else she would be in deeper trouble. Lifting herself up to her paws True took a step backwards and sniffed the air, the wind carrying new scents that she should have recognized earlier. ”I’m a loner as well with my older brother and I may have took the time to explore. Excuse me are we still in no man’s land?” True asked and hoped the answer would be yes, if it wasn’t White Fang would never forgive her. Feeling the fear of perhaps the betrayal White Fang would feel towards her, Shattered Truth’s ears flattened against her skull. She had to get back to him and soon. Turning her head towards the direction of the older she wolf the tundra wolf gave a small whimper, a plea for guidance back to her caretaker.

It was dark, the moon still staking her claim on the sky. Her kingdom painted a deep and lovely blue, broken by millions of stars dwarfed by distance. Their light streamed through the cave mouth, turning the rocky floor into a mosaic of shadow and silver. Silence hung in the air but the sounds of sleep came ocassionally from the wolves tucked in their sleeping places. The heat from so many bodies warmed the temporary den of the pack, but one she-wolf was too far from it's comfort. She was small and brown, curled up in a tight ball by the entrance in a shallow rounded dent formed in the wall that hid her from view. Though she was asleep, Antheia's large ears were perked. The lightness of her restful state ensured that she would be the first to hear any of the other stirring from their slumber and she would be alerted to the creatures of the outside world if any chose to approach. While her location was practical, it wasn't exactly ideal. As the temperatures dropped, so did her body temperature and many mornings she woke with stuff joints and a dull ache in her bones. It hadn't that time yet, but when the snow finally hit the ground, she'd have to start taking her runs at dawn to warm herself. From the changes in the winds and the scent of ice that lingered in the air, it seemed that day would be soon. It all seemed tedious, for she could easily just move further back into the cave and not have to worry about waking with frost-tipped fur but that would mean a lesser vantage point and with a wolf like Antheia, that was unacceptable.
Long past the peak of the moon's reign and Antheia was awakened by a stirring towards the back of the cave. The soft click of claws on stone caused her ears to twitch and noise brought the lithe wolf to consciousness. Ashy eyes opened, though she didn't move just yet. She listened to the delay between each click, counting the seconds between each set. One, two, three. One, two, three. Takota. Who else would it be? She lifted her head as he stepped into the argent glow of the moonlight. Her eyes followed him as he left the cave that would be their sanctuary for the following months and he soon left her view altogether. Part of her felt like she should follow him, ensure that he safely returned to the pack, but she made for a poor body guard and he was an alpha. The strongest male in the pack. So, rather than becoming a tail, she simply lifted herself to her paws and rose with her alpha. The snoring proved to be a bit of a distraction to her and as quietly as she could, she dipped outside of the cave and selected her vantage point. A small outcrop of stones were assembled beside the mouth and from them rose one that allowed her to see a greater distance than if she stayed in the ground. So, she took her place there, sitting on her haunches and raising her head high. It was louder out there, the sounds of the falls becoming loud but not quite deafening. It was more relaxing than anything and whatever tenseness she might have head in her muscles was washed down the side of the mountains with the water.
Antheia was able to watch the sun rise from her perch, and the beauty of it left her in a state of wonder. The dawn didn't do much in terms of warming the air, her breath still a cloud of heat in comparison, but she could already feel its rays warming her dark coat. She wasn't feeling stiff by the time Takota returned and her ash gray eyes scoured every part of him to ensure he wasn't injured. He disappeared before she could complete her scanning and the brown she-wolf left out a soft grunt of displeasure when he vanished into the cave. With one last lingering glance down the mountainside, she followed him. Her entranced was greeting by a howl and she stopped in her tracks. Her gaze settled on Snowface and she felt silly for forgetting about his usual routine. He was somewhat of a rooster, always announcing the daylight as it came. She supposed it was fairly helpful. Without the shaman, who knew how many wolves would sleep in. She wasn't too keen on finding out. After regaining her senses, she continued on with her agenda and followed the older male to where Takota sat. She, however, kept her distance but the space wasn't enough for their exchanges to escape her ears. Her eyes fell to the ground, a slightly troubled expression taking root on her face. It remained there as she looked up at the two, her ears dropping back slightly at her alpha's decision to accompany the hunting patrol. An alarmed look passed over her face and she opened her maw to protest, but the multi-colored male was already leaving. She leapt to dainty paws and padded after him but his strides dwarfed hers considerably and she fell behind.
Antheia had gained some ground when Callisto had stalled Takota but it wasn't enough. By the time she caught up with him, he was already giving Akhita his orders. Another soft grunt left her body and she moved into his field of vision. Not all that keen on talking out of turn, she waited impatiently until he finished speaking. She met his gaze for a few moments before looking down submissively, her body language subservient. "Sir," She began, still finding it strange on her tongue to call him by his name. "I did not mean to intrude but I heard your exchange with Snowface and I do not think it's a good idea for you to accompany them." She spoke with a certain formally, her words persistent but not demanding. "If you truly must go, I would like to request that I join as well. I'm aware it's not my place as part of a hunting patrol but as a sentinel I feel it's my duty to keep watch over you and that group if something horrid truly does happen." Almost as if she became aware of her rambling, her maw snapped shut. Her gaze stayed on the ground for a few moments longer but eventually she dared to look up at the dominant male. Her ashen orbs searched his expression for any sign of acceptance to her request, her breath catching in her throat and anticipation tending the muscles of her shoulders.

@checkered; i'm sorry, i just realized that margo is interacting with both of your characters xD
margo.
tagged; niko, snowface
margo watched as niko joined us after arousing from his slumber. she nodded at him and shot him a friendly grin. "well hey," she said, nudging the brute with her muzzle. in her field of vision she could see a group of wolves gathered around takota. from the snippets of conversation she picked up with her acute hearing, they were organizing a hunting patrol. good thing too, for she couldn't remember the last time she had eaten a good, filling meal. she watched antheia approach the leader, and caught on to some of her plea. why wouldn't takota go on the hunting patrol? he was the alpha after all. she looked around for snowface. did he have something to do with it? did the old shaman have a vision? what was it? curiosity took over margo's mind and there wasn't much stopping it. "i wonder what's going on," she said, more as a statement then a reasonable question. it was more of a, "i'm gonna go find out what's going on even if it kills me because i'm margo" kind of question.
she met eyes with niko and shot him sympathetic smile then bounded off, on the search for the old shaman. she only half-expected niko to follow her, for the brute rarely participated in margo's schemes. the fae spotted snowface, sitting off to the side of the group. margo did debate on wether she should approach takota and grasp information from him, though she decided against it. the alpha looked like he already had enough on his paws. pin-pointing her destination, margo trotted and joined snowface, dipping her head in respect for the wise old male. "morning snowface," she chirped. "if you don't mind me asking, have you been presented with a vision? things seem kinda off, and i couldn't seem to put my paw on what the trouble is." her large, icy blue eyes bore into snowface as if she was trying to get answers from the furs that covered his maw.

Tempest has taken up the dull time of pushing her paw into a patch of wet mud and then covering it back up. The spiral pattern of her paw would imprint itself and she studied it, the curves, dips, ridges, and then when she thought she would never see anything different she would paw at it to erase it. Over and over, the same image each time. Maybe subconsciously she wished it would change, a full, proper paw print would emerge onto the mud and shed be considered 'normal'. Not that her paw had affected her in any way in this pack, but not many other wolves knew either. To think about it, no one other than her brother most likely knew. She was careful to step in dry, hard dirt and when she couldn't she would brush her tail over her path to cover it up as she passed. It didn't affect her in fighting either, so when asking to join the pack she didn't think anyone had picked up on it.

Foalan had no present awareness of his surroundings, not even the smallest amount of interest either. He felt a slight warmth on his fur as he laid under the shade, so he was comfortably warm with his pack, as he didn't get cold like many others did. His ears laid lazily to their sides, flopped away from anyone else. He listened to a soft crumple of a line of ants that walked across dead leaves, he smallest sounds picking up on his radar as he zoned out the rest of the world. His eyes were drooped closed, with a small opening no more than a eight of his sight open. He watched the trail of ants that walked in front of him and every once in a while would create a small huff to blow them out of line. It was interesting that every time you blew on ants they went straight back into their line as if nothing happened, and never turned around to go the other way.

I heave the deer carcase into the clearing, which was the opening of the camp. I lay down, licking my lips. It was big for me to take down on my own as of now, but I knew with a little more practice I would be able to take it down easily. I bet the hunters here would be able to easily take it down. Probably one of the healthier ones too. I was just so out of shape.
After a moment of air, I get up again and head to a spot where I thought we were supposed to place our hunting. I wasn't quite sure. I look around a bit hesitant, not sure if I would be scolded for hunting without permission or bringing it all the way here. I had overheard earlier that there might have been a hunting group going out later, but I hadn't thought that I would need to tell anyone about my small hunt. I had only thought I would be hunting rabbits. I look back at the deer and scowl as I see that it actually wasn't even that big. Just the spur of the moment, I guess.

Aspen watched the young one watch with intent as if she were telling a story with her many questions; and it surprised to fae some as most pups would be bounding from place to place, full of energy. When the pup stood and began to sniff the air, Aspen too took a moment to take in the smells. Other wolves were about; and surely soon enough they would be near. She turned her head to the young one when she spoke of being a loner as well, but with her older brother. Most male wolves were terrible teachers to young ones; looking back on how her siblings were treated by her father, Aspen was unsure of any other males teaching abilities. But; with how young this fae was, and how respectful she had been; he must be different than whom she was raised by.
Seeing how the small tundra pup began to shrink back after her own question, Aspen thought it out for a moment. She let her maw lift into the air; taking in the smells. They were not far into pack lands; enough to possibly cause a stir within the pack, but not to far from its edge. "You are off of no mans land, young one," Aspen started, "But you are not far from its edge. Should you go back the way you came, you will be fine." She spoke lightly. Being protective of young ones made Aspen think of if she should perhaps accompany the young one back to her older brother. She was not a fan of middle-aged wolves, so perhaps following without the pups consent would be a better idea. She focused her light blue eyes on the pup.

Nodding her head a small smile formed on her lips. "I'm fine as well." She offered in reply. Zilla's eyes skimmed over Neva's face watching the emotions flicker between love and hurt as she watched the pups. The black coated female sighed quietly and looked around the cave once more. Most wolves were conversing as the morning came upon them and Takota seemed to be setting up the hunting patrol. Zilla watched as the alpha and lead hunter talked, she wished to join but until Drago was old enough to be in training Zilla was prohibited to go. For the last three months it has been absolutely driving her mad, being stuck in their camp all the time. But as Drago got older he became more of a pawful and kept her busy. Her mind had barley been on hunting these last couple weeks till now. Her paws itched to run through the forest, to take down prey for the pack. But she wouldn't push it, Takota only had so much patience. At the sound of Neva's voice again the she-wolf turned back to her to listen. "I hope so too. It would not be good to get stuck out there either." Zilla frowned at the thought. They did not need sick wolves before winter even arrived. Hopefully it was just a false alarm and it would only be a few flurries.

The elder's eyebrows pulled down into a worried frown as his alpha spoke to him; causing the scarred side of his face to pull into a gruesome grin. Of course, Takota was right - after all, he was the alpha and he was going to set the rules, so he was always right, even when he wasn't - but it was a risky business, going out this short before a snowstorm. The shaman didn't want to get lost, as directions were going to be pretty difficult once you couldn't see where you were going. His old legs would have to work harder than usual to ensure his safety, and that of his companion. Whoever that was going to be, he did not know.
His ears perked when the alpha was approached by one of the patrollers, who probably unsuccessfully asked him to let her go with them, or not to go at all. Without much thought, he snorted slightly, rolling his eyes at the fae. If Takota wanted to go, he'd go, and she could come whether she wanted to or not - after all, her duty was to protect the pack from whatever harm was to come upon them by alarming them of the oncoming danger. However, if a hunting group was to go out, it should probably be one of the scouts to go with them and the patrollers to do their duty at the borders... But that wasn't his business.
Snowface was about to shake his fur out and go back to his den to see what herbs he needed to collect when one of the hunters approached him. Margo. The one with the fiery heart and the sometimes thoughtless actions. He couldn't exactly say that he liked the much younger fae, as he never really liked anyone, but he could stand her better than anyone else. Their thoughts were somewhat the same, though his lacked the energy that a younger wolf would have.
He scrunched his nose as his eye settled upon the fae's features. "They did, in fact. Danger is to befall upon the pack today. Whether it is the snowstorm or something else, I could not tell," - shooting an angry glare towards the pups that woke him that morning - "but the alpha is worried. We have to ensure the safety of the pack." He eyed her carefully, his glare working over hers. "If you're a hunter, you should probably go with them. Or come with me to collect herbs. I should not be going alone."

The brute gave a soft growl of affection when he got nudged by his friend, attempting to nudge her back, but by the time his nose was supposed to reach her fur, she'd already bolted off in a different direction. He rolled his eyes, though smiled, gave a quick nod towards Phoebe before trotting off towards the edge of the den. His stomach was empty and he hoped the pack would get a good amount of food in today. But as long as they hadn't yet, he might as well do some patrolling to make sure the pack was safe.
He exited the dens in a slow run, reaching the edge of wanderlust territory and bounding towards the left to begin the circle. However, Niko was more than just bad at being concentrated - something that had gotten to him before, when he was on scout duty - and without realizing it, he got far off his tracks and ran into a totally random direction. Not to mention he was becoming hungry, which took his mind off the way he was going.
All of that together caused him to run straight into something soft and warm - Niko, you stupid runt, dang watch where you're going - he mentally scolded himself as they tumbled on the floor together. He barely managed to get up before he realized it was another wolf. More specifically, one he did not know. The pup that was with the fae wasn't hers, considering they both smelled different. Rogues.
The hair on the brute's back raised into an aggressive ridge and he bared his teeth in defense. They better be friendly... or he might as well just run back to the pack, the silly coward he was.
