The crowd is hysteric. The horses beside him are snorting, pawing, sweating, trembling. He can feel his jockey's heartbeat, pounding with fluttering desperation. His own body shakes; his blood mixes with an invigorating rush of adrenaline, fear, and power. The gates swing open with the sharp clash of a bell, and he's off.

He wakes up with a start, perspiring as he staggers to his feet. He may not have been meant for the track, but that doesn't mean it hasn't permanently engrained itself in his life. To him, every day is a day at the races: breezes, races, paces or gallops, trailers, starting gates, finish lines. Walking, relaxing, rolling in the pastures -- all of these things are foreign to him, and he can't learn them on his own. He needs you to help him. He doesn't have any other choice. It's all mental, and he doesn't know any better.

He needs a rescuer. Won't you be that for him?

unconquered . rules

Un. All of Tess's rules apply.
Deux. Please PM your forms to me before posting. Don't worry; chances are, if you follow the guidelines, you'll be accepted.
Trois. You may have as many characters as you can handle, but all of them must be kept active. I would recommend no more than three.
Quatre. Each character may have up to two total horses, but both must be off-the-track and you may only start with one. After a character has sufficiently trained, competed with, and rehabbed his or her first horse, I will approve that character for another one.
Cinq. Each character may have up to three dogs and/or cats.
Six. Please try to keep the genders reasonably realistic. I won't kick you out if you join with two or even three girls, but it gets kind of awkward to only have one guy for every sixteen girls. I am, however, aware that in the horse world, guys tend to be in the minority, so as long as it's a realistic gap, I'm fine with it. After all, romance isn't a major part of the plot, though I'm certainly not against it!
Sept. No LGBT characters, please, as it does not suit the plot of the roleplay.
Huit. Semi-literate is absolutely required, but I'm not going to set a minimum. If I feel like you're not posting enough, I'll just send you a PM to let you know. Grammar, however, is very important to me, so please take care to use it.
Neuf. Please don't join if you don't plan to remain active.
Dix. No power-playing, god-modding, mary-sues, or gary-sues — this includes having a perfect relationship between your horse and his/her rider.
Onze. Do not roleplay through the perspective of a horse or dog. Stick to the human's point-of-view in third person.
Doze. Keep the roleplay realistic. Much as we'd like to believe it, our pets aren't always perfect. We don't always have this sweet, wonderful bond with them. Sometimes they'll get sick or hurt and sometimes they'll refuse a jump. Same for humans in general; if someone pulls an all-nighter to get something done, he or she probably won't be feeling too good the next day.
Treize. Reservations last for 48 hours. I will message you after the 48 hours are up to see if you still want the spot; if you do not reply after reading it and continue to post for quite a while afterwards, your reservation will be cancelled. Same goes if you become inactive: If you read the message and are active elsewhere for several hours, your character will be removed. If you respond and are still interested, you may have 24 more hours. After that, your reservation will be opened back up.

Un. Pretty forms are nice, but you don't have to worry about not being accepted if you can't make one. I'm looking solely at writing quality and the character itself.
Deux. On the form itself, please include for humans their name, age, gender, a description, personality, history, riding discipline, and the name of their horse and any pets. Anything else is optional but strongly encouraged and appreciated! For horses, please include their name, age, gender, breed, height, personality, detailed racing history, the discipline(s) they will be trained in, and their rider. Tack is optional, but highly appreciated. For pets, please include their name, age, gender, breed, a description, personality, a brief history, and their owner. Pictures for all forms are required.
Trois. Humans can be any age from 20+.
Quatre. Please geld any colts or stallion's.
Cinq. Please try to use pretty pictures. If you can't find any, try weheartit.com.
Six. Let's not have our horses be too young -- I recognize that horses are started young in the racing industry, but I'd prefer to have them range from 4-6 years.
Huit. Don't forget to visit our discussion thread here! This is also where you should post your forms.

unconquered . information

Postby SydneyandStorm » Wed Nov 19, 2014 2:58 pm

There will be eight breeds allowed within this roleplay. They are as follows:

Image

Thoroughbred

The thoroughbred is most likely the best known racing breed, and he excels in both flat and steeplechase racing. Horses in this roleplay may come from either of these backgrounds. There is no limit to the number of thoroughbreds in this roleplay.

Standardbred

If there is a second best known racing breed, it's probably the standardbred. These horses are only raced on the flat, and instead of galloping, the horses are either trotted or paced, depending primarily on the horse's breeding. Additionally, instead of being ridden, the horses pull a lightweight cart known as a sulky. There is no limit to the number of standardbreds in this roleplay.

-Keeping Time
-
-
-
-

Quarter Horse

Most quarter horses are considered to be good only at western disciplines, such as barrel racing, but in fact they are raced quite frequently on flat tracks a quarter of a mile in length and can outrun even thoroughbreds at these distances. There may be up to four quarter horses in this roleplay.

-Give Away the Roses
-
-
-

Anglo-Arabian

Aside from being considered an elite eventing horse, anglo-arabians have found wild success on the track. They race on the arabian circuit and are still registered as arabians, which allows them easy success over the true arabians. They are flat racers, and run the same types of tracks as the thoroughbred and the quarter horse. There may be up to three anglo-arabians in this roleplay.

-
-

Paint

Paint horses run the same races as quarter horses and appaloosas; the only difference is that they generally compete only among other paints. There are separate races for solid and colored paints, and there may be up to three paints in this roleplay.

-Roses for Rachel
-
-

Appaloosa

Most wouldn't imagine an appaloosa to be a racer, although they do compete at several tracks within the country. They compete in flat racing, as do quarter horses and paints. There may only be two appaloosas in this roleplay.

-
-

Arabian

Few racers have the guts to race purebred arabians nowadays. With the influx of anglo-arabians into the arabian racing circuit, the little desert horses hardly stand a chance. There are a few, however, that may get lucky on tracks where there are a few other arabians like them. When they do race, it's on a flat racing track, just like the thoroughbreds. There may be up to two arabians in this roleplay.

-Sahara Storm
-

Appendix

It's tough to get into the racing world as an appendix quarter horse, primarily because the sprinting genes from the quarter horse have been muddled with long-distance genes from the thoroughbred, leaving the baby awkwardly in between both parents in talent. However, if an appendix can meet the quarter horse standards, he is allowed to race with other quarter horses. For this reason, there may be one appendix quarter horse in this roleplay.

unconquered . competitions

Competitions will be scored as they would be in real life, and a point system will be used to determine the current champion of a discipline. First place is worth ten points, second is eight, third is six, and so on. Judged disciplines will include a second number beside the placing, which will reflect on the horse's performance and the gap between one competitor and another. It can range from 60-80, with 80 being flawless. I will determine the times for speed events. Don't worry; I'll be fair, and it will be based on the horse's performance. The judges each have different things that they're looking for and will take off for if they don't see, so just do your best and try to include as much detail as you can, including that which doesn't happen in the show ring. It would be in your best interest to read a little about the discipline you plan to compete in if you don't know much about it in order to be familiar with its requirements. The elements and of the shows will be posted the night before, and shows will take place on weekends. Judging will be done on Monday, so you will have until Sunday night to post your show entry and your performance.

Hunters

Hunters is a discipline in which horses are judged on having qualities that would have been sought after for fox hunting. There are two classes in this version of hunters: over fences and under saddle. In an over fences class, the horse and rider are judged on their performance in riding a course of jumps. Under saddle classes are primarily to judge the horse's natural hunter movement, so the rider is not so heavily judged. The horse should have a sweeping movement, a rounded frame, a consistent pace, and be on the bit. In the over fences class, a horse should also have even knees, good bascule, and should cover the distance from one jump to another in the pre-determined number of strides. Points are taken off for any sort of misbehavior (bucking, rearing, ears pinned back) and refusals or run-outs (over fences). The rider should have perfect english equitation, and should demonstrate a proper release when going over fences. Both horse and rider should have impeccable turnout. The jumps in hunters are designed to be natural-looking.
Current champion:
Competitors: 1

Jumpers

Jumpers, also known as show jumping, is a discipline based on speed and athleticism. There are two rounds: the first with a goal of not incurring any faults and the second based on speed. Faults are as such: four points for knocking a rail off the jump, four points for the first refusal or run-out, four points for any foot landing in the water in a water jump, 0.4 points for every second gone over the time, and elimination for a second refusal or run-out or the fall of a horse or rider. Everyone with a faultless round moves on to the second round, which is all about speed. The horse with the fastest time wins. This discipline is not based at all on the turnout of the horse and rider. The jumps are often bright, flashy, and big, which can cause some horses to spook.
Current champion:
Competitors: 1

Cross-Country

In cross-country, the idea is to finish the course in as little time as possible. The event is run through a forest, and consists of several natural jumps of varying degrees of difficulty. The course is marked out using flags to ensure that no one goes off-course. Penalties are as such: twenty points for a first refusal at a jump, forty for the second refusal at the same jump, elimination for the third refusal at the same jump or the fourth refusal on the entire course, elimination for a horse or rider fall, elimination for going off course in any way such as jumping out of order, jumping a jump in the wrong direction, omitting a jump, or jumping an obstacle twice in a row (unless it is impossible to jump the next obstacle without jumping the first one), 0.4 penalties for every second over the time limit, and elimination for going over double the time limit. This sport is not judged on the appearance of the horse and rider. Horses need to be brave in order to successfully compete, and should be careful jumpers to avoid injury to themselves and their riders.
Current champion:
Competitors: 1

Dressage

Dressage is the epitome of communication between horse and rider, and requires a great deal of finesse and skill on both parts. Horses are guided through a series of movements in an arena by the rider, whose cues should be almost invisible to the audience. The horse should be of good behavior for the duration of the competition, and any misbehavior is penalized. A horse competing in dressage must have good collection, powerful movement, excellent obedience and focus, and be on the bit. Horse and rider turnout should be flawless. Points will be scored differently in dressage, with a 1-10 given for each movement and these points added up out of how many were possible for the sake of this roleplay. There are no jumps. There are two classes in this roleplay's version of dressage: tests and musical freestyle. In a dressage test, the horse must preform a specified and required number of movements in a set pattern. The horse and rider are judged on each movement. In musical freestyle, the rider may choose a song and the horse and rider "dance" through a series of movements they may choose, although some are required and some high-level movements are forbidden. These movements will be posted the night before the show. The song chosen for musical freestyle must be noted within the rider's post.
Current champion:
Competitors: 1

Three-Day Eventing

Three-day eventing consists of dressage, cross-country, and jumpers, and spans over the course of three days (shows will therefore last until Tuesday). Horses are judged as they would be in each of the disciplines, and the overall points are added up to determine the champion. Horses must be able to display each of the attributes of the different disciplines that make up the phases in order to score well.
Current champion:
Competitors: 2
