She'd nodded to his words about dogs, and while she was distracted pressed against his side with hers - she spans about 3/4 of how long he is, but that is ok. Compared to Soldier she is a pup. The silver wolf offers a grin; "Yes.. yes I do." a pause, "What choice do I have? No pack will take me now Lykaios." Malone doesn't want to make the male feel guilty, forest knows that he is guilty-feeling enough.

Her green eyes are darker as she forces herself to be relaxed. "This isn't your fault.. or if it is.. it was half mine too." her paws are cold, sunk into the churned snow rather than dancing above it like before. Mal blinks slowly and shakes out immaginary snow from her pelt.

Lykaios stiffened considerably when he felt her against his side.

As delicate as she felt and as much as he knew she needed (and wanted) help from him. He forced out a deep breath, a puff of crystallized air escaping from his jaws. A smile came on his lips as he whispered, "A
right, alright. If you feel so compelled to... Just let me know if you feel any discomfort."

His smile soon faded, though as he flicked his ears forward, the appendages somewhat numb from the biting air (but not so that he couldn't withstand the feeling). A pause as he took a single step forward, paw easily sinking into the snow. "I just want to let you know that I'm very sorry for this. If... If a pack doesn't want you, then you've still got Solider, right? But if even he doesn't, I'd..." He licked his lips nervously. "I'd be willing to take you along with me. If you want."

"Or, if he hurts you..." He paused before shaking the idea out of his head. "Nevermind. Let's just go."

Soldier shifts, looking out at the forest, blue eyes a-scanning. It is quiet, the way winter almost always it. A cardinal takes flight with a seed in its little beak, he cannot help but think of spilled blood... because of churned snow. Then, it isn't a sound, or a smell that warns him, it isn't even a sight, it is just knowledge when he shoves the Alpha out of the way with a heavy muzzle. "Move!" is snapped as he whirls again to look at where she had been standing - it is between them. A snarl of warning is answered by a spit and lash out of claws. Its larger than he had thought, golden-brown and speckled fur has clumps of ice, if eyes were looking it would note the ribs and the black male wolf lunges in an instant. Instead of a fight with the she-wolf he would kill this. That would save them both. Her life. His guilt.

Nebbia stiffened as Soldier pushed her aside but moved none the less not daring to ignore his warning and kept out of the way as much as she could while being push in the process. The fawn coated wolf's tail curled amd ears flat against her head, her fur stood on end and her teeth bared as she now faced the wild cat, larger than most of its spicies and most defiantly ill fed. Hunger must have drivin it farther into pack territory, for most tend to stay clear of the wolves of this pack. The thoughts hardly had time to enter her mind as she saw Soldier lunch at the large cat. She readied herself to pounce should a good opening and oppertunity arise in a area to strike.

Once blue eyes are flashed to silvery-black, his pelt sleeked flat now, tail curled about his ankles - he would kill this. It would satisfy his blood-lust. When a claw-filled paw colides with his shoulder he turns, taking that same appendage into his powerful jaws and pulling away otherwise. Soldier snarls when they have retreated from eachother. The cat doesn't want to leave without at least one of them dead, or having a meal. This would be fun.

Malone swallows, she doesn't want to think about that. "What else am I going to do?" she inquires. "Even though I am sure Sol will take me back.. he's blind, and not a hunter. I was the hunter." the silver wolf tells the darker gray one quietly; "Besides, he'd probably hunt.. and kill.. you.." she is silent a while as they go through the snow - already missing the effortless gliding over the snow from before. "What am I supposed to say? I wont lie to you. This is very much, almost too much.."

Lykaios walked slowly, matching himself to her pace - his movement isn't seamless, isn't graceful, but it's not much of a lumber, either.

For a moment, he doesn't know what to say. His ears moved uneasily, forward, right, back... He exhaled a deep breath, the warm air soon crystallizing. "Then I won't lie, either." He said, not sparing a glance to her. "I am not afraid of Soldier. I am willing to fight back because I'm not going to give myself up to death so easily. He's far more experienced than I as from what you've told me. If I die, then I die. It's not as if this world will remember me, only recognizing my bones that will soon become dust just like everything else will in time."

He looked at her at this moment, gold eyes relaxed as he offered her a smile - barely noticeable through the snow, as it is simpy a small curve of the lips, a gentle slope. "Nothing is holding me back. I have seen far than what most wolves do not understand. I am a wanderer, but I am willing to protect you to atone for my mistakes. For wronging what little you have. I hope that..." He hesitated once, licking his lips nervously.

"I hope that somehow you may find something that truly makes you happy. You walk a road that is overgrown - mine has long since been beaten."

Mal blinks at him in shock - he couldn't be serious... could he be? Green eyes widen in her thought, "Many have thought that, and been right. You may not be afraid of Sol, but I am. I've seen what he is capable of, my friend, I wouldn't want that for you." she is silently heading for the place which she remembers a while before speaking again; "I would remember you, you know, I would because why wouldn't I?" and though the silver wolf didn't think she could when her brain is mostly full of pain she blushes hot benieth her pelt.

"Why would anything hold anyone back, save by choice?" Malone inquires, scenting the air a long moment. "You made no mistake with me Lykaios, you should know that. If it is a mistake to play that I rather enjoy that mistake."

Again comes the almost stiffling silence, "I am happy."

A friend? He's never heard that word - at least, used to refer to him. Something in him blooms and he tries to resist a smile.

He's never been called a friend.

"I may not know what you've seen," Lykaios spoke, eyes gazing on the path forward - seeking something that they (they, he realizes) could shelter in for the moment. "But if I am ripped limb by limb, or left to bleed out slowly, in agony, then it is alright with me. But..." He finally looked at her, ears easily sliding forward. "I do fear a little. Who doesn't? Being courageous means being able to look past the fear, not the lack of fear. But I do... I do appreciate your words. They say the last time a person dies is when their name is thought of for the last time."

He is cautious, but he feels warm - almost as if it was a spring afternoon where food was plentiful and the conditions not too harsh. Spring was something he missed. Malone would be somethng he'll miss too, should he disappear. He merely let the silence settle in, but it's almost strained - he wanted to speak, but there was nothing else until she broke the silence with her voice.

She's happy.

And maybe he was too.

He only smiled deeply as he pulled his ears back in embarrassment. He broke her paw. He took her from a pack, as frail as it was for her already. He was going to fight with a wolf who far surpassed him. He may as well die. But he's relaxed. He's happy. "I am pleased," A lick of his muzzle in nervousness. "That you are happy..."

"I cannot believe that. We become stars when we die, and who could forget the stars?" Malone answers through gritted teeth. She hurts, terribly, and if Sol were here he would give her some vile herb to eat that would make it go away. Then, eventually she would be ok, for Soldier was good at the Fixings... a lump is soon in her throat, her eyes burn and blinking rappidly they are averted; she would have no rank, no mate, no pups. No pack. No nothing. Not now, not ever. If only she had listened. Malone swallows and tightens her jaw and forces another smile. "But you are not happy." is stated.

"Stars... When we die, we just become memories. Food for the ground and other preying animals." Lykaios closed his eyes briefly as he drew in a deep breath - once, twice, and then his eyes opened again with a glazed look in them.

"But folklore isn't so bad."

If it wasn't for him - if he had just left the pack'a hunting grounds earlier - then, then she'd be okay. Then she'd be fine, if not for the constant fear he's heard from her. He easily picked up on the pain in her voice, the quiet, but audible, clashing of her teeth. Was he really something she doesn't regret? Lykaios has known that his life wasn't as bad as others, but how could he say it was good, too?

She had a better chance than him with her moonscape eyes, her Nyx river pelt - she was a wolf who feared and needed to be feared, because she had something in her eyes that he cannot quite make out, but that's okay. Words sometimes are just so... Empty.

"You are not happy, either, Malone." His words are gentler now, softer then as he cast a brief glance at her. "You are in pain. You could be crippled for the rest of your life. You have plenty to fear because you know what it's like to live."

Lykaios doesn't know what to say, but the rest flows out easily. "I've never had that sort of comfort - raising myself in isolation from others and seeking what other wolves do not. I may not be happy then and I may not be happy now, but at least I know that I'll be remembered. By you or this bone-cold earth."
