In my humble opinion, the line art edit was gutsy, but not incredibly well thought out. I took a look at the pup and was not shocked, but rather disappointed by it.

Its not that its missing ears, has a unique tail, or has a tongue. Its that none of these things look terribly creative or well integrated with the pup line art itself. Now, I'm not trying to attack the artist here, because this is my opinion. But this looks as if she expected the line art edits from some of the other artists, decided she didn't want to be left out, and threw together a pup without fully understanding how to make a line art look smooth and well-put together. For example- slightly parting the mouth so that the tongue could be sliding out instead may have been a better idea. Again, my humble opinion.

I don't hate it, though. Actually, I'm about to head out to look for one in the trades right now, and not only to be sure my monthly collection is complete. Its kind of cute, in its own little way :3

I loved the Grown-Up PPS last Christmas!!


When I saw it I had mixed feelings. I have noticed how many people are bashing it, I do not see why all the hate. I understand it looks odd without ears, but then I relized it was because I was viewing it as a dog. I shouldn't be, it is not a dog to me when I look at it, it is a dinosaur!!! The more I look at it the more I enjoy it, it is not a dog but a dino!! I would have liked to see spikes on the head, but it doesn't make me think it is ugly. I love how unique it is! I absolutley love the slitted tongue and the heart tail, what a cute little dino. A fantastic finnish to the staff blankets, and it being a PPS ^_^ that makes me so happy. I see dino no dragon, dragons have wings (or in chinese dragon case, fur and whiskers and long)

The Reluctant Dragon doesn't have wings and the puppy's tail looks just like the Reluctant Dragons: link.

That sets off a warning flag for me...

Because it has no wings and a forked tail like the Reluctant Dragon? No offense, but it looks nothing like it. I am all against art theft, but there are dozens of wingless dragons. In fact, only western dragons and wyrms have the large wings that people are so accustomed to... As for them both being blue, well... those are the staff blanket colors and very common dragon colors. =/

Noootttt a fan. While it's a very cute idea, the execution is meh. The edited lines are sloppy and unclean, the tail is broken-looking, the face is boxy, heck, the top of the last spine isn't colored! The pattern itself is decent, though not outstanding. All in all, this really could have benefited from more time spent fixing the messiness of the edits. The problem isn't that there are so many edits, it's that they're not well integrated. Sticking a dino head, spines, and a tail on dog lineart makes a weird, unnatural looking hybrid. Dino mammal hybrids can look good, but they usually mix features instead of patching them together.

The only thing that really bothers me I think is the tail. It looks a bit detached. I think it's because of the fact that the outline on the base of the tail doesn't match the darkness of the rest of the pup's outline. And did someone drop something on the end of his tail where it suddenly angles up? xD Poor thing!

Otherwise though, I think he's kind of cute in his own special little way. It's just too bad that she rushed him, especially when you consider that she didn't have an adult dog to worry about.

I have not been reading the mass opinion on this, but I LOVE it to death <3 Because I am a nerd, I just named my two after Lake Monsters (Champ from Lake Champlain and Nessie from Loch Ness. XD) It might look a little odd at first glance, but when I saw it I started fannerding over it. I realize it's more dragon than lake monster, but the coloration makes it look like some sort of water monster.

I was just stating what I thought, that I see a Dino more then a Dragon. To me dragons have wings or in the chinese dragon which are furred and have whiskers. There are a little simmilarities to the reluctant dragon but only a very few! The colour and maybe the tail, that it is. To me it is I still see a Dinosaur. Also forked tongues are snakes in my mind, not dragons or even Dinos but to all there own. Equi did a good job, intresting idea!

In other thoughts, It would be intresting to see this guy grow. I do imagine bigger horns, maybe more spikes up its head or down its tail.

I love the coloring and design job on him. The snout edits and spikes look wonderful too, however. It does have a certain strange look to it without the ears. The skull is still canine-shaped which makes me feel like it should have ears. Perhaps if it was a bit flatter, more reptilian? That way it'd look a bit more natural without the ears. ^^; The tail I love up until the bend where it becomes straight. I think it'd look much more natural if it curved the whole way to the tip.

I'm also a bit miffed that it's a PPS. It just seems to not really follow the whole group thing. ^^;

Me too!!! A lot of people disagree, but I think Equi did GREAT!!! I'm so glad she took a risk, she usually sticks with natural and geometrical shapes. People can "critisise" her, but I applaud her for stepping out of her comfort zone

xD That's kinda what I thought too.

I love it, at least. xD This is the second year in a row that Equimagine's staff dog creature will be going into my favorites group~ :D ...When I find a name for it at least. ;_;
