i hope nobody minds if i jump in here, i think this could be a fun little topic and i like to think i am good with dog breeds... but i have a suggestion.
this pup caught my curiosity, probably because of all the hype. but i dont think id put in a guess just yet since he is still a puppy (7 months today right?) and clearly growing into those legs!
but all the discussion about him brings out an important aspect of breed identification. location. one of the questions that should be asked when posting is where the dog was rescued/purchased from (not owner location). youll find different breeds in different locations, even some rare or obscure "ive-never-heard-of-that" breeds. a couple examples:
i know someone who breeds Kai Ken (a favorite breed of mine) among other Nihon Ken breeds (shikoku, hokkaido, kishu, akita, shiba). the Kai in particular are escape artists to the max! it wouldnt surprise me too much if someone from that area posted a Kai Ken mix, even though there are only a few hundred Kai in the US, since its possible that one of his escape artist dogs got out and mated with other dogs in the area (they are hunting dogs and are very capable of surviving alone in the wilderness for long periods of time).
another example, if Kumo was from say, New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont, or even NY, he could very well be part Chinook, because they are all over here and it has qualities of the Chinook, but the further you go from that part of New England, the less likely you will find a Chinook or Chinook mix, once you get to the mid west or west coast, it becomes a dog nobody has ever heard of.
aside from that, different areas have different breed populations. each location has their "popular" breeds, where it seems everywhere you look, there is someone with that breed or a mix of that breed. where i am, sledding breeds (husky, malamute, chinook, etc) are common because its a big sport here. but im rural New England, and you probably wouldnt have so many large breed, long haired dogs in the big city or anywhere where it is very warm (like CA or FL).
so, asking for a location the dog is from (dog, not owner) would be helpful in narrowing down some breed choices. especially since we arent all from the US and breeds differ a lot between countries (I have a Tamaskan pup coming from Croatia and not a single person ive talked to knows what that is).
just my suggestion!
