Flamepaw was awoken by his mentor."Ready to see the territory?". He blinked his eyes to see Plumheart above him, her gray tabby fur sleek."Oh yes!" Flamepaw jumped up. "Can Snowstorm come with us? Pretty please with lots of honey on top?" Plumheart teased, "You know I can't stand that. Alright then." Flamepaw trotted her to the warriors den. "Mama! Plumheart said you could come with us to see the territory." Snowstorm blinked her eyes and groaned, "Let me sleep forever." Flamepaw nosed her. "PLLLEEASSSE!" Snowstorm teased, "As long as we are just seeing the territory." The tiny orange tabby trotted out with his mother.
Later...Plumheart and Snowstorm chatted with each other while Flamepaw bounded ahead, chasing a butterfly. "Ouch." Plumheart winced as she stepped on a thorn. Snowstorm meowed, "Let me see it. Ah, it's nothing. Let me put some cobwebs on it." Meanwhile, Flamepaw had no idea he was heading to the Thunderpath. The butterfly flew up. "Come back!" He frowned and went to turn back. The apprentice was then stunned by the lights of a upcoming monster. He yowled in terror. Suddenly, white paws thrust him off, and he heard a crash. After he overcome his terror, he looked on the Thunderpath for a clue, and what be saw was terrifying-there lay his mother, her once beautiful fur now blood-stained. Her eyes were glassy. "No!" He ran out to get his mother, when Plumheart emerged from the bushes with Ashpaw, his brother. "So, she died trying to save Flamepaw?"His gray-colored brother hissed. "I'm sorry. That was her own sacrifice." Ashpaw' s eyes were full of hatred. "You did this to her, Flamepaw! She died because of you!" Flamepaw stuttered, "I-I didn't mean to. I was chasing a b-butterfly." "Of course you were! Grow up, Flamepaw!" Ashpaw padded foward and buried his nose into the blood-stained fur, still staring at his kin with fury. "I hate you, Flamepaw! I no longer consider you my brother!" Flamepaw' s eyes filled with tears and he ran off towards camp. He didn't care anymore. He didn't believe it. He didn't want to. Nobody cared anymore. Cries of sympathy came to him from all directions. He couldn't save her. She was gone.
