Does date really matter in trades?

So am curious as to what other people's opinions are on dates. I personally don't care about and find it quite annoying. To me, rarity trumps date.
I reacently had a trade that I really wanted cancelled because there was a "seven month difference making it unfair". Please note that they were both uncommon pets. I was really annoyed and slightly ticked off.

Please feel free to argue, discuss, and contribute to each side. I'm curious to see why you may say that date matters.

for me anything 2012-2014 are pretty even date wise, but when it comes to 2008 and 09 I care more, 7 months wouldn't be a deal breaker for me but a 2014 for something like an 09 would (unless the 2014 Is a OMGSR or something)

I do think dates matter to most people but as long as its within a year or so I don't ususally have problems trading.

yes, date matters to me because an older pet means that it is harder to get, it could never be available to get again which adds more rarity to it.
