Legend has it that the merfolk of Merrimere Isle have lived alone, isolated from other human life
forms for as long as anyone can remember. They have remained safe and thrived in their kingdom
below the sea, but even they have heard the tales of other coves that have been plundered and
destroyed by merciless pirates. What happens when, without warning, a terrible tempest causes a
nearby crew of pirates to be stranded on the shores of their island? Will they cower and leave the
them to die? Or will curiosity get the best of them? How will the pirates react? In a new and
stressful situation, morality will dictate the fate of both parties.

1. Follow all site and forum rules.
2. You must be semi-literate: proper grammar and spelling, approximately a paragraph per post. I am
expecting dedicated members, but understand that school has started and this happens to be a busy
time of year for many. That being said, I ask you try to post at least once every other day.
3. You must make your own forms with all the essential information. The more the better! Feel free
to take a look at my forms or ask me if you are unsure about what to include.
4. All reservations must be PMed to me and will last for three days.
5. Indicate when you are speaking out of character.
6. Remove your signature from each post to help keep the roleplay more organized.
7. Each player is allowed a maximum of two characters.
8. Characters may be between 16 and 28 years of age.
9. You may be either a merfolk and/or a pirate and idividuality is key. Your character's morals and
actions will sway the direction of the plot.
10. Avoid perfect characters - we all have flaws!
11. Don't be afraid to have fun! Throw in some drama, some romance, whatever. If you have any big
dramatic ideas feel free to suggest them and I will take them into consideration. The discussion

The merfolk are capable of transforming their tails into legs so that they may walk on land when they
wish to do so. However, this ability only lasts for a limited amount of time: about an hour based on
the individual. If they are not back in the water before their time is up, they will begin to feel
insufferably weak and crippled to the point where it becomes nearly impossible for them to move.
Merfolk that meet this fate often either starve to death or get attacked by a predator. If they
somehow manage to find their way to a body of water they will recover after intense care.

The island remains largely unexplored, as the merfolk are obviously unable to walk around it. There
are, however, underwater rivers that connect many parts of the island and the merfolk are able to
surface in various pockets of water. The shoreline drops off quite unexpectedly in most areas, enabling
the merfolk to swim right up to the edge of the island itself. Palawan Cove is a pool located almost
directly in the center of the island that is a popular place for the merfolk to sunbathe and chatter
with one another. The climate is tropical and most of the wildlife is harmless. There are however
some larger animals such as jaguars that may be a threat.

The merfolk kingdom is located almost directly below the island, slightly to the southeast. Most of
it is built from the seabed rock itself, though it is adorned with gems and jewels, particularly pearls.
The civilians live in small domed houses skirting the palace where the royal family lives. Currently the
king and queen have no children. There are strong currents located further south of the kingdom that
are potentially dangerous at high tide. The merfolk live peacefully with the vegetation and animals
around them, with the occasional exception of large predators like sharks getting too close.

"I don't have that much of a history that anyone should care about. I was born in Madrid where my
family has settled for generations. My father is a city official and my mother is the city's lead fashion
designer. Together they have a lot of influence and we've always had high living standards. As a young
girl I was raised to conform to society's norms including proper attire, ettiquette, etc. However I could
never seem to fit in. Even at a young age I was always too wild, too eccentric. High society life was
too boring for me. Luckily I had an older brother that I sometimes suspect must have realized I would
never enjoy that sort of life. He would always tease me and test my limits. He made me look rather
foolish in public more times than I could count. Yet for some reason my parents never blamed him for
my ill behaviour. It was always my fault. When I turned seventeen my parents decided to marry me off
to a man I didn't even know in an arranged marriage and that was the breaking point for me. I left that
night and never looked back. I hitchhiked my way to Lisbon where I met a pirate captain and sweet
talked my way onto his crew. I originally intended to stay for just a short while, but found that the
thrill of the plunder excited me and the rhythm of the waves crashing against the ship was comforting.
I decided to stay and have been roaming the seas ever since. Sometimes I wonder how my father
must feel when he sees the wanted posters of me plastered around the city. I hope they make him cry
at night."

someplace new every day. While it may be true that we have a habit of plundering every place we
stop, the treasure is really just an added bonus to our career. Attacking other pirates is also really
just a hobby: it's the thrill of the fight that's so enticing. Drawing your weapon and putting your life
on the line for your dignity. That's something most people don't get to experience every day. While I
may sound crazy to those who don't understand the need for excitement I can promise you that I'm
not entirely insane. There is a rational side of me that may sometimes feel guilt or remorse for my
actions - I've just mastered the art of drinking those twangs of feeling away."

Background Info: Natasha grew up in the palace, the younger sister to the heir. She loved her sister fiercely, and they grew up as best friends and confidantes. It has always been the duty of the younger sibling to guard and protect the heir, and Nat took her duties seriously; learning all manner of fighting and defensive tactics. When her sister was betrothed to the handsome young lord she'd admired for years, nobody was happier for her than Natasha.
But tragedy struck, and Natasha's sister disappeared a month before her coronation and marriage. Now Natasha was the one being forced to attend social engagements with a smile, marry a merman she barely knew, and run a kingdom. She is trying her best, but making decisions never came naturally to her.
Personality: Despite her indecisive nature, Natasha has a very strong presence. Never fond of idle chatter, her no-nonsense attitude can often push people away. But if you get to know her and earn her respect, you'd find the fiercely protective, extremely loyal young woman she really is. Though she doesn't know her new husband well, Natasha is trying her best to let him in and let love grow between them while running her land.

History: "Honestly, there's not much to say." And it's the truth. Mika grew up on the docks and left as a pirate's cabin boy at the age of ten. He spent his teenage years working in the rigging and talking his way out of walking the plank. When he turned twenty he met up with the captain. Well, met up is a bit of an understatement. In all actuality, his ship sank Mika's over an argument. Mika befriended the captain after signing up on his ship and never looked back. He'd follow the manto the ends of the earth. Or a mermaid infested island. Whatever.
Personality: Despite his serious face in the picture, Mika is practically a little ball of sunshine. Okay, so that's not entirely true. But he's known for an impish grin and infectious attitude, so it's almost the same thing (or so he says). Nevertheless, Mika loves to joke and have fun. Despite this, he's surprisingly brave. It takes courage to swing upside-down from a rope while acting like a corpse all to scare the cook at three in the morning.
Other: Most of the crew calls Mika Monkey because of his unparalleled ability to climb the rigging and watch from the lookout. He practically lives up there; rarely coming down for anything but food.
