Thank you that's helpful^^
Also is it just me or do most of the fish at pet stores with ick are blood red parrot fish? I feel like they are more vulnerable to it. Mine did get it but we treated it.
July 2017 - I quit sometime in 2014 and i'm sometimes online but I don't play games like this anymore. I'm doing well if anyone still remembers me. <3 sorry but I learned from what happened and I have moved on. Thanks to everyone who dealt with me. *thumbs up*

Looooord.
Mine broke out the whole tank when I got them a few weeks ago. It was the first time I've dealt with ich. I lost 10 tiger barbs, 4 panda barbs, 1 black ruby barb, and 1 bristlenose pleco because of it. And I was close to losing my African featherfin catfish. He's okay now though.
I was so sad about it.
It's almost gone from the tank now, I only have 2 tiger barbs that still have a little ich left, and one is looking really good and eating well now. The other one isn't eating but she's a fighter, I think she'll make it. I hope she will, at least. She's missing a stripe on one side, it's gorgeous.
Ugh.

And, I'm waiting a week or two before repopulating the barb schools after the ich is completely gone.
I'm not even gonna have the money for it smh
But my tiger barbs will rip each other up when they feel better if I don't, because there's only four of them left now
And I know exactly who they're gonna pick on, the little albino that never got ich because he's immortal like the black ruby barbs
Ugh

ich is never completely gone
its always in the tank and shows up when the fish's immune system is weak
all you can do is break its cycle by adding meds or salt and/or upping the heat

my little butterfly got it when I had an ammonia spike the other week
she was very lethargic and after I had done a large WC she still wasn't feeling too well, the next day I noticed the ich spots on her fins.
I was able to treat it in 2 days just with salt, heat and water changes, luckily none of the other fish got it

You.. you do know ich is a parasite? Not a virus?... They get it from stress most of the time.
And yes, I know how to get rid of it, my tank is at 85 degrees and salted way over the set limit, I pretty much salted until the barbs started acting less lethargic. I'm just not gonna add more fish when there is ich all over them.
When I add more barbs they normally don't ever stress enough for ich to take over.
Years of adding barbs religiously like it's all I cared about, and no ich.
I add blood parrots and boom, ich everywhere on everything.
The tiger barbs are the only ones that still have it. Everyone else, including my scaleless catfish, is okay now.
Like I'm not gonna add more tiger barbs just so they can get it. Tiger barbs are pretty but have pretty weak defense/immunity. I mean, yeah they can tolerate temperature and pH changes, but they can't tolerate any kind of parasite, disease, or virus. They all drop dead as soon as they get something, even when you're spending your life's savings on medicines they'll still probably die if they've got something.

How many fish tanks do you have:
I have many fish Bowls and cheap (Walmart), plastic/glass, tanks/containers, but I have 2, fully running, 10gal tanks. :)

Types of fish that you have:

1st 10gal;
"Bubbles" (4 1/2" Black and Orange, Male Black Moore. Died a couple months ago. Had him for almost 2 years. Grew very attatched to the little guy. :cry: )
"Cracker" (5 1/2" Fancy Tailed Goldfish, that has White on the rims, of her tail fins. I'm hoping to get a bigger tank, once me and my husband move, to a bigger place, cause she's really starting to outgrow, her 10gal. Want her to be happily swimming, with as much space, as a fish could want. :) )

2nd 10gal;
"Shimmer" (1" Neon, seems to be the dominant of the 2.)
"Glitter" (1" Neon, the follower. But seem to enjoy each others company.)
"Dotty" (1 1/2" Algae Eater, likes to pester Spotty)
"Spotty" (1 1/2" Algae Eater, doesn't much care for Dotty's pestering and tries to swim away from Dotty. Occasionally, they both go head to head, pushing one another off or a cross, whatever they're on. )

and in a plastic 1gal Container;
"Black Panther" (a 2" Male Crowntail Betta. He loves to play. I move my finger around his bowl and move it up and down, and he follows and wiggles around, and open and shuts his mouth, all excitedly. :D )

How long have you had fish:
Well....I had little, 25cent Goldfish, when I was small and only had 1, to last more than a year, the rest died within months to days, of purchase. :/ But, didn't really get back into fish, til about 3 years, ago. When me and my husband, moved into our current residence. An apartment. And the only pet we could have, without paying a $200, deposit, was fish. At first, we got lots of fish, that died in a short time, due to poor health quality and lack of knowledge, on how to properly care, for fish. Then, after we gave fish a rest, for about a year, (after all the fish died, we emptied the tank, and put it all in storage), I did a LOT of research and asked many, many, many questions, I learnt what the does-and-the-don'ts were, with caring for fish. And as of the last 2 years, all our fish have thrived. Happy and healthy. And when they see me coming, they all swim to the front of their tanks, to either say hello or give hint that they are hungry. :D I love my finned babies!

I have even buried the one's that died. Betta's and Goldfish (including Bubbles. Whom is still waiting to be buried. I have him wrapped in a clothe, sealed in a tin container, in a safe corner of our freezer, to wait til next summer, for burial. :) ). Some of my family and in-laws, think I'm nuts, cause I love fish and treat them like family and bury them, as if burying a loved one. Well, they are my loved one's. Their my babies. My beloved pets. Just because you can't pet them, doesn't make them any less, a lovable creature. ...course, they disagree with me on that one. "A fish, is for eating, not keeping!" ....pff.... To me, all living creature's, can and should be loved, and cared for. In the very least, considered, to have feelings. ...Anywho, I'll get off my rant, rave, and snort. :) Just a tid bit, of how I feel, about our finned conterparts. :P

Yo. Only one of my barbs still has ich and she's doing a lot better than she's been doing, things are looking up for me.
My two male tiger barbs have obviously been feeling better, because they have been fighting nonstop for the past two days now, so I might try to pick up more females tomorrow evening.
Okay, so I need opinions. When I hopped in the pet store yesterday, they had four gorgeous blue gouramis that were around full size (between 5 and 7 inches), and I had to tell myself "no, my barbs would destroy them" because they were just so pretty. I wanted one sooo badly. Robbie had to keep shooing me away from that aisle so I wouldn't buy one.
Then I found out that they're semi-aggressive and people have had luck with them in barb tanks.
I'm thinking about going in tomorrow and purchasing one when I look at the tiger barbs.
I won't take one home unless I'm fairly certain it's a female, but, do you think a it would be too aggressive with my blood parrot cichlids? Even as a female? What about a male? I think a male would be too aggressive. I don't feel that the barbs would be an issue, they don't pick at anything bigger than them. The blood parrot cichlids can't hurt the gourami 'cause their mouths are deformed, so their aggression isn't an issue, but I don't want the gourami to bite up the cichlids when they can't defend themselves, you know?
What are your opinions? Yay or nay?

Female gouramis are rarely sold in stores, at least where I live. Just a heads up.
But, I don't think a male would be too aggressive. When I finally get my 20 gallon cycled, I'm putting a gourami in with a large school of neons. Also, my previous gourami never nipped or went after my spastic danios who would always dart around him, so i don't think they're that aggressive except one on one with their own kind.
