Discipline:
Hyde's a hunting horse. It's been in his blood since birth, being born into the lines of a rich, aristocratic family. He participated in fox hunts across the countryside, and learned to love the chase. At Fairbanks, he is ridden on the occasional drag hunt by those brave enough, but otherwise trains in low-level cross country. He is more or less allowed to do his own thing on the course, which is useful since any suggestion by an un-cautious rider will result in a ruthless display of temper.

Personality:
Demanding, ruthless and violent, Hyde is really the sort of horse you should steer clear of as soon as you see him. Normally, he's about as emotional as a bagpipe, acting as if he was born without a personality. Dull, dreary and uninteresting, this side of Hyde is much more preferable than the other. With his seemingly boring nature, he lures the unwary into his clutches, before becoming a downright monster.

Anything can and will set him off. Other horses, different exercises, or even a change in the weather. He completely transforms from the dreary old grey to a creature of nightmares. Rearing, kicking, bucking, screaming; his outbursts can last for ever and ever. A roaring ball of fury, power, and oddly enough, fierce joy, Hyde can cause serious damage to anyone and anything around him. He revels in the fear he can place in people's hearts, using it as leverage to get what he wants. His only source of enjoyment seems to come from fulfilling his selfish desires, usually at the expense of the innocent.

Rarely noticed by others is Hyde's more unusual tendency to obsess over certain things. He considers this a weakness, so his fixation (usually on some pretty mare) is hidden. This can be very dangerous for all involved, for his outbursts occur more often when he is worked up. Contrary to the usual beliefs, Hyde can display some form of tender affection. This strange action of his is usually geared towards one of his obsessions, and usually only has his own interests in mind. His strange idea of 'love' is very rarely seen; he is often controlling and violent around his favourites.

History:
When he first arrived at Fairbanks, we never even knew the stallion's name. Most just called him 'Henry,' much to his annoyance. Our only knowledge of him was that something he had done caused him to be hated by everyone, which is probably why Cottonwood was so desperate to adopt him out. No one from Fairbanks knew what the incident was, so the beautiful Warmblood found a home in an instant. He was handsome when he first stepped off the ship onto Eswitch soil, handsome enough that dozens of offers were made on him immediately, and blatantly rejected. Of course, no one could see the storm that lay just beneath his emotionless surface.

As the scattered pieces of his past were slowly being threaded together, 'Henry' had his first outburst, or ' transformation' as it became jokingly known as. This incident was no laughing matter to those involved. Seemingly for no reason, the handsome grey stallion turned into the devil's horse from hell. Screaming, biting, kicking bucking, all of the nasty equine behaviors were displayed by him. No one could get near him for fear of being badly injured or worse. Free from restraint, 'Henry' ran wild throughout the grounds, terrorising mares and breaking fences. He was finally trapped in a well-fenced paddock, where he sulked and seemed to plot his next set of evil deeds.

The next day, we learned his name. Or rather, he earned it, we should say. A document was found detailing the birth and appearance of a registered Iberian Warmblood* outside of London. Out of Streak Of Genius and by Madness My Darling, a foal with a genetic test matching the new stallion's was produced. His registered name was Streak Of Madness. Delighted, a number of Fairbanks's riders gathered around the grey, happily calling his official name to see how he'd respond. Needless to say, two needed stitches, and the rest sustained minor injuries. A pat on the neck was all that was needed to set 'Henry' off.

"Goodness! He's like Hyde without Jekyll!"

The name stuck. There was no element of the hardworking and kind Henry Jekyll in this horse. Edward Hyde he became, and Edward Hyde he remained.

Days later, his history was complete. Streak Of Madness was found to have grown into a handsome stallion belonging to a very posh family. He was treated well, and trained in the art of hunting and steeplechase. No records of his personality were found from then, but it became known that he injured several other horses in numerous steeplechase competitions and hunts. Hyde must have been very loved, for he was kept for many years despite his bad temper. He was loved, but he was not happy, nor did he love in return.

An irresponsible mistake led to a disaster. Hyde was accidentally let loose, perhaps by a groom. Galloping freely, he headed in the general direction of London. 'Lost horse' advertisements in some newspapers showed he was not seen for three days. He was at last seen heading into the grand city on the Thames. Upon his arrival, Hyde wreaked havoc through the streets and alleyways, terrifying pedestrians and ruining property. No one could catch him. No one, until his ever-patient rider caught up with him. She may have lured him close with treats and soft words, finally seizing the opportunity to grab his frayed lead rope. Hyde's reaction could never have been imagined.

Furious with his capture, Hyde exploded with rage. His hoof caught his long-time companion in the chest.

Reports say she was taken to the hospital, though no information can be found after that. Hyde was branded as a 'threat to society,' with some insisting he be done away with. Not wanting to harm their prized stallion, his rich owners arranged for him to be sent to the US, where he could be adopted with a clear record. No adoption centre would take him save for Cottonwood, where he remained until he was given a home at Fairbanks.


*An Iberian Warmblood only needs to have 25% of Iberian blood to be registered.
