•What are some shiny-hunting tips?
Just...keep at it, I guess. Of course you're not going to find anything if you quit early on!
•What do you trade for your shinies?
I normally don't trade them if I'm the OT, but I have a few extra I'm willing to trade for CS pets.
•Do you have patience, and how long does it take you on average to catch one shiny (by any method, chain fishing, radar, etc.)?
Well I've caught one shiny by total chance in my Fire Red and in X I caught a shiny Ninetales in a Friend Safari so she has a DW Ability <3 It took about thirty minutes.
Spirit10 and I are partners, we use the same internet!!
Good Omens.

that is all.

30 minutes?Wow XD Even with my shiny charm I've had no luck XD I'm a fail chainer big time and get tireless working in the safari and breeding. I caught a HA Aron and am working on breeding a 5-6IV shiny Aron for my battle team.I get restless since I'm always torn between shiny hunting and 5-6IV breeding/team training ^^.
I have a butteload of 4IV HA Aron.So close!I'm training one 5IV HA I bred for my battle team. Aggron is amazing since I'm more of a defense over speed battler. And with 255 EVs in Def.(which would be over 311 paired with an IV of 31 mega evolved) and Spec.Def.,an attack IV of 31 coupled with power-up punch, and heavy slam (with its HA heavy metal), you've got an awesome defense-set pokemon

Adding two more tips ... not so much for how to succeed, since that depends a lot on simple luck, but rather how to hunt without having to throw your console against the wall. ;)
- If you're determined to find a shiny ___, I would strongly recommend you find a way to use one of the shiny-hunting methods (ie. chain fishing, Masuda Method, radar.) If you just run around in the grass or breed two (same region) Pokemon and hatch dozens of eggs hoping to find a shiny, chances are extremely high you'll be disappointed.
- Don't expect to just sit down and find a shiny in a few minutes. Even with the shiny-hunting methods, it might take several hours or days or more of searching before you're successful. If you've been working on it for a long time with no luck, make sure you remember to take plenty of breaks and don't come back to the game until you're well-refreshed and ready for another go.

I've preferred breeding when searching for very specific Pokemon (perfect IVs and shiny, hidden abilities).Have you had any luck with breeding? What's your favorite method to use?

Breeding for shinies is fine, but you'll want to use the Masuda Method if you want much of a chance of succeeding. In case you aren't familiar with the method, you'll have a better chance of getting a shiny if the two Pokemon you use for breeding come from different region games (ex. one from an English game and one from a French game.) You can read about it
here on Bulbapedia.
I don't have a "favorite" method because I don't actively shiny-hunt (I've only done it seriously for one Pokemon so far and had major bad luck,) but I've had success with both radar-chaining (Ponyta, somewhat unintentionally) and "Masuda Methoding" (Riolu.) Radar-chaining didn't take much time for me, but I was doing it in Platinum and I've found the radar to be less effective in X/Y, mainly because many locations contain a larger variety of possible Pokemon and there isn't any chain counter like the Poketch app in Sinnoh. Breeding the Riolu, on the other hand, took about 6 - 8 hundred eggs before I finally found the shiny, but I've seen other people succeed with
much less difficulty, so I blame bad luck in my case. ^^"

It took me around 30-40 eggs to get my Shiny Eevee. You have to have patience, and a sharp eye to be able to tell apart the shiny one from the normal one. It will probably take around 100-400 eggs from what I've seen. There's no actual way to estimate how long it will take, that's basically estimating how much luck you will have. In order from how long it will take, from longest amount to shortest (at least most of the time), here's a list of methods:
(These aren't in order of how easy it is to do them)
Hunting in grass (no radar)
Pokeradar
Masuda Method (using eggs)
Chain Fishing
This isn't the most accurate list of them all, but its from what I've seen.
If you guys have done one of these methods and it took longer or shorter than above, don't judge me, I said it wasn't accurate x3

It's not too difficult to tell certain shinies from the rest (e.g. Aron, mienfoo) XD 30-40 eggs?30 minutes in the safari?Man am I jeali of you guys!I haven't kept count of my aron hunt, but I'm around the 50 mark

And I have a shiny charm that's helping very little apparently .-. The Masuda is by far my favorite! I'm having trouble with the pokeradar so far.I usually go for the fast shaking grass since it's easier to tell apart from the barely shaking grass,I stay away from edges, follow the fourxfour grid, and all that jazz. Still,I might just be an epic fail naturally.
Thank you all for your input so far!The question I'm most interested in is how long.So far I've seen short times that some of my fellows would kill for
