Most of his looks favor his mother's side, but his green eyes are of his father's. A light hint of stubble is visible on his cheeks and chin and a white scar can also be seen on the back of his neck.

personality. To some up Ronan in a single word is suspicious and he tends to stick to the life of solitary. Of course, that solitary is shared with his trustworthy dragon, but he's never really been a "people" person. However, he is quite knowledgeable and his patience is admirable. At times, people may say he has a cruel and cold nature, but truly he is a terrible person. He just is blunt and to the point. Over the years of his life, he simply has that it's easier to be honest.

history. Before Ronan became a dragon ranger, he did have a life before dragons...


Ronan was born to a young couple in a small village. His father was a simple trader and his mother worked at home, caring for him and his brother. He grew up alongside his younger brother and around the age of eight, his father introduced him to the trades he was involved in. Trading never really impressed Ronan. He was aware that he would have to take his father's place in the trade someday, but it was rather boring. Especially for an eight year old at the time. Instead he was fascinated by a certain "magician" who mysteriously entered the village one day. Truly, the man was a simple healer, but the rumors within the village called the man a "sorcerer". His medicines were considered "magic" because he used unusual ingredients and they worked quite rapidly. However, it did not impress the village. The healer attempted to convince another couple that he could cure their daughter of illness, but the couple refused. Insisting that they did not want their daughter tainted by magic. Eventually, the village made it clear that the "sorcerer" was not welcomed. However, upon the afternoon on which the healer was planning to leave, he was approached by Ronan. The enthusiasm of the youth amused the elder and he could see that the boy did have potential as a possible apprentice. Of course, Marcus's parents weren't so approving. When the old healer made the request of taking young Marcus under his wing, his father declined the request and forbad his son to ever practice in the way of healing again. Honoring his parents' request, the healer bided the boy farewell.

Two years later, he was left an orphan went a terrible wild fire swept through the village. Few were able to escape the blazing embers and he was one of the lucky ones. His parents and brother, however, perished. From that day, Ronan traveled over the land, visiting other villages. At the age of fourteen, however, he was found by a man who called himself a Ranger. He heard of the Dragon Rangers in simple tales... All villages were required to give up apprentices, but that was when he was younger. The only person that he knew personally was his cousin, who was several years older than himself. However, instead of being frightened by the concept of dragons, he was fascinated with them. The Ranger who found him eventually took him as an apprentice and he was introduced to a young dragon by the name of Shruikan. At the time, the dragon had been rebellious and difficult to handle. At first it was hard to tell if Ronan was the correct person for Shruikan, but they both had one goal in mind. They both thirsted for adventure. Of course during the current time, that adventurous side has dimmed, but during their younger years Ronan and Shruikan were the ones up to mischief believe or not.

K a i ' s B a c k S t o r y
Kaison Elizabeth Botch has led a fairly ordinary life up til now. Her birth was a secret one, due to the fact that she is the illegitimate daughter of a Tribal (town) Chief and a High Priestess. Her father, Chief Apache, is a great and powerful man and didn't want to sully his name with a female child that wasn't born to his wife, Cheyenne. He ordered the High Priestess, Illiya, to get rid of the child. But Illiya loved her newborn daughter, and instead she disguised the child as a boy and introduced her as an orphan. She was allowed to keep the child in her own home under the guise of raising her to be a priest.

Though it confused Kaison immensely as she began to grow, she obediently hid her true gender. It wasn't too hard at first. Kai was born with a fiery and competitive nature. No one would suspect such a bold, impudent child of being a female. At least, not in her town where girl children were taught to obey orders obediently and swiftly. To keep up appearances, Illiya hired a few of her closest friends who knew of the child's true identity to teach the girl combat. She couldn't participate with the other boys her age, because if not careful they would find out she was no boy. So she trained with instructors instead, deep in the forest where no one would find them. They taught her many, many things. They taught her to move as swift and silent as the wind. Stealthiness, they said, was essential to being a great warrior. They taught her to be as quick as a jack rabbit and to be as sturdy as a tree. Balance was a big part of her training. For this, she was forced to balance on precarious perches, sometimes for hours on end. They taught her to fight with her fists, using her lesser height and weight to her advantage. They taught her to use a sword, and then they taught her to use a bow and arrow. A great warrior, they said, needed to know how to use different weapons.

Kai excelled at her training. She was a determined and dedicated student who never gave up. She worked, day and night, to become the perfect warrior. And she succeeded. When she was challenged by the other boys, she beat them without batting an eye. Senior fighters had difficulty defeating her. Kai was beginning to think and feel like a boy. But she could never forget it was all just a disguise. Especially once she hit puberty and was forced to bind her chest. She actually began to resent the fact that she was a female. She had no female friends, and while she was constantly competing with the other boys, her skill level set her far above the others. And then, the day Kai turned fifteen, something happened. She was out hunting when she found an odd looking rock. It was a gorgeous blue in color. The second she touched it, it grew warmer and warmer and out popped a young dragon. Kai kept the dragon which she named Toad (mind of a boy, remember?), a secret. Toad spent the first few weeks of her life either in the hayloft of Illiya's barn or out in the forest, playing with Kai. The mark of the dragon rider was imprinted on the girl's hand, allowing them to communicate telepathically.

They became fast friends, these two. The day the Rangers came, Chief Apache offered up a boy named Cain. But the Dragon Riders refused. Somehow, they had sensed that there was a rider present and they demanded he or she come forward. At Toad's urging, Kai stepped forward and revealed herself as the Dragon Riders. The Chief was furious. He didn't believe his illegitimate child deserved such an honor. He even tried to say it was all a trick, even though Toad was sitting on her shoulder plain as day. Despite his protests and insistence of her father, Kai said goodbye to her mother and her old life and thus began her new life. But, old habits die hard so no one actually knows she is a girl. She wears a white robe edged in emerald green almost all the time, because despite thinking and feeling like a boy most of the time, she still is a girl and she has let her hair grow out since moving to the Ranger's Camp.

A Girl Called Kai...
Kai is a very clever girl. She is quite intelligent and despite her size she uses her skill and intelligence to outwit opponents larger and stronger than she. She is very bold and impudent, with little respect for authority figures. She doesn't trust others very easily and is almost always on guard. Kai is a loyal friend. She stands beside those she loves and would protect them with her life. Despite her wary nature, there is such a youthful joy about her that it draws people in. Kai is very charismatic and charming. Or at least, she can be. When she smiles, people are drawn to her. She is very honest, sometimes brutally so. Kai is very tomboyish, not surprising since she was raised as a boy would be. She is extremely competitive. She is also a very sore loser. She tends to sulk when she doesn't get her way. She can be a bit of a loner at times, thanks to being an outcast back home where she was raised. She likes to wander with Toad and watch nature. But there is a small part of her that is very girly. Vulgar topics disgust her and she doesn't find a lot of things that boys laugh about funny. She hates cutting her hair and the cloak she always wears is made of very expensive material, as are her weapons. She also gets very shy and nervous around boys she likes.

A Dragon Named Toad...
Toad is a baby dragon with cerulean blue scales and aquamarine eyes. She is the only one who currently knows of her mistress's true identity. Toad is a very friendly and open little dragon. She is loyal, protective, and defiant. She will stand up to older, bigger dragons if she has to. She'd do anything to protect Kai. Still, she is still very young. She is very energetic and playful and a bit of a klutz. She is a very goofy little creature. Toad is actually the daughter of a very powerful rogue Dragon known as Tyrath, Bringer of Death. Tyrath is the leader of the rogue Dragons and it was because of the Dragon Rangers that Toad's egg wound up in the forest. The rangers attacked the camp, killing her mother Kilala, and Tyrath was carrying the egg to safety when two rangers set upon him and caused him to drop it. Not long after, Toad sensed the presence of a girl who was loyal and goodhearted. So she emerged and bonded with the human. She doesn't for a second regret bonding with Kaison.

Tyrath is a very old, very powerful dragon. They say his fire breaths hotter than any other, and that he has destroyed more villages than all the other Rogues combined. Whether there is truth to this or not, no one can say for sure. People never escape from this bloodthirsty beast. Tyrath's mate was a beautiful blue and silver dragoness named Kilala. She was a good dragon. She wasn't bloodthirsty like her mate and she was the only one able to calm him. They've been mated for hundreds of years, and in that time have had many, many children. Some have died in battle, others have gone off on their own, and others still have been captured and tamed by the humans. The day Kilala was killed, Tyrath also lost his youngest daughter and heir, Toad. After Kilala was killed Tyrath ordered the clan to retreat in order to save the eggs. But as he was escaping two Rangers set upon him and he dropped the egg. Toad, as the youngest, was supposed to take over as Leader of the Rogues and he is determined to find her. The news that she is bonded with a human child is of no consequence to him. He won't stop until she has his heir back.

ＰＥＲＳＯＮＡＬＩＴＹ
above all things, thomas is perceptive. he understands people, picks up on their
signals, reads their emotions. he's the first to notice when something goes wrong
because he's always observing and watching carefully, noting behavioral patterns
and actions and words.

the dragon rangers are a group of noble warriors, and as such many of them have
returned from battles trying to hide their wounds (be it for pride or for not wanting
others to worry) -- but thomas always notices the way they limp when they stand
or wince when reaching for their bow, and soon the next morning that noble warrior
will have a fresh bandage on.

thomas is also incredibly strong mentally and emotionally; words will never break
him. he believes in light when everything is dark, stays steady and calm under
pressure when all else start to crumble. he's lost people, before-- the ones with
wounds too deep, the ones who were brought to him too late-- to the cold hands
of death, and the first time it happened he was ripped apart. now, he's built up
his unshakable mental walls, and he's learned how to pull himself together again.
(he can't let those things affect him anymore, because a broken healer has no use.)


ＡＰＰＥＡＲＡＮＣＥ
one of the reasons thomas chose the path of a healer was his physique. he's a light,
slim twenty year old, and his thin frame is clearly ill-suited for the hardships of close
battle. of course, years of dragon riding and the necessary exertion that comes with
being a ranger have given him a basis of lean muscle, and he's as good with a bow as
anyone else, but most of the time he sticks to camp or the sidelines.

beyond that, he has bronze-gold hair and brown eyes. his pale skin and delicate
features give him a vaguely effeminate look, but people who point that out will
usually be met with an irritated scowl.


ＨＩＳＴＯＲＹ
the town thomas grew up in was filled with brawny boys and angry men, all of them
training with weapons as soon as they could pick one up. they viewed the dragon
rangers with scorn, calling them cowardly, not to be trusted (for how could they be
trusted if they mingled with dragons?), and thieves who stole their children away.

so when the time came to send an apprentice to the dragon rangers, the town lord
sneered and sent the town's weakest child-- thomas blackthorn, who was small and
skinny and powerful in the mind, not in the body. people jeered at him, and when he
left his mother only offered him an angry look and nothing more.

and now here he is, the healer of the rangers. despite his town's views, he was never
ashamed when he went to the camp in the forest, and now as one of them every part
of him is proud to be a ranger. his years of training while he was an apprentice have
made him just as excellent with a bow and throwing knives as any other member (and
far better than any of those brawny boys from his town), but it's still the healing and
knowledge that he truly excels at.
