(male)The night that I was born on was cold beyond belief. It was Halloween Night and my owners had just finished Trick Or Treating when they heard my mother's cry of pain. By the time they had gotten there, I was already standing up, their stares of disbelief boring into me.
"Mom, why are they staring at me?" I asked, once I had balanced on my legs.
"Because you are different, young one, you have a pumpkin on your hindquarters." She replied.
"But doesn't everyone have a pumpkin on their hindquarters?" I asked again, now turning around in circles to try to see the pumpkin on my hindquarters.
"No dear.", my mother replied with a sigh, "Not everyone does. In fact I think you may be the only one.". I thought for a moment, testing what I could do with my legs and tail. Then, a ghostly-white butterfly appeared in front of me and I began to chase it. I chased it all the way outside, where it suddenly turned into an actual ghost. The ghost was a pony, a seemingly bay one just like me, but whiter and very scary. I tried to gallop away, but it seemed to have glued my hooves to the ground.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? A pony with a pumpkin marking? Well you are very special indeed, young one. What is your name?" it asked, I shook my head, "You don't have one? Well, now I will name you Goblin, keeper of the Jack-O-Lanterns. But, you must repay me for your great name. How about your mother?". it flew away and I gasped, suddenly finding that I could move again and galloped to my mom to warn her. To my dismay, the ghost was too quick. But just as it was about to enter into my mother, I jumped in front and the ghost entered me. I could hear it inside my head, screaming. "Nooo! Nooo! The pumpkin king has powers that ward off ghosts?! Oh how could this happen?!". Suddenly, I felt a jolt, and the ghost came out of me, through my pumpkin hindquarters, making a Jack-O-Lantern on it. "Well, you seem to be able to ward off me, but can you ward off a bat?" the ghost had turned into a bat and was about to enter me again when I heard a sound, like a match being lit. A force field of light from my Jack-O-Lantern surrounded me and my mother, making the ghost dissipate. "I'll be back, Goblin, I'll be back..." it yelled as it turned to nothing. I had won.
