I'm not against interracial marriage, but isn't the only reported incident of dwarf and elf friendship in Middle-earth between Legolas and Gimli? :P), but it's interesting seeing her and Legolas's relationship.

My feelings exactly. c: I actually like Tauriel's character a lot, and I love how she gives Legolas more of a personality than in LotR; he's always been my favorite character, but before now he was just a bland, nice-looking side character in the films. Too good, too perfect--I can't recall a single time in the LotR films where an enemy touched him even once. I get that he's supposed to be an elf with superhuman abilities and all, but still ... Come on. ^^' Is he like that in the books, too? I've only read The Hobbit and part of Fellowship of the Ring several years ago.

Anyway, back to Tauriel: her character alone is a nice touch, but what I really don't like is the relationship with Kíli. It feels entirely random, even forced, not to mention the complete rip-off of the Morgul blade bit from Fellowship of the Ring, right down to the "Kingsfoil is a weed" dialogue. -_- And I agree with Barry Allen that the filmmakers probably just included the romance so we would feel something at the end.

I have enjoyed the Hobbit films otherwise, the second better than the first (no doubt I'm biased, though, as any film that gives Legolas more screen-time is a good film to me. XD) Can't wait to see how Battle of Five Armies turns out. I deliberately avoid reading rumors and production hints so I can watch the film without expectations or advance knowledge outside of what I already know from the book.

I'm kind of dreading five armies
this whole series it hasn't felt like the hobbit.
it just felt like a prequal to lord of the rings
rather than trying to be the hobbit.

it really seems like the writers didn't put as much love and care into adpating the hobbit than they did with lord of the rings.

they probably made it like prequel because the hobbit itself would have just been boring o.O hence as to why the battle of five armies is in th emovies. the lord of the rings also had bigger budget and back then peter jackson and christopher tolkien where actually talking to one another but in the hobbit peter jackson kind of had fight with christopher so he's doing whatever he wants to make money.

I love Middle Earth and everything related to it! I admit I haven't read the books, but they are on my bucket list of "books to read" (lol). I've seen all the movies, though!

I do have a question, however: Am I the only one who thought Smaug was the best character in The Hobbit? xD

I'm going to be very close-minded and say that she wasn't in the book, so I don't think she needs a part in the film. Seriously, the film should be in one or two parts, not three.

On the subject of three parts, I felt like it was just perfect because of the way the Hobbit was written. For LOTR, it's not a stretch to say that there was a lot of walking. Three movies balanced the lulls and the action quite well. For the Hobbit, there was also a lot of walki MG, but there was a definite sense of urgency as well. Lots of things happened in the process of walking, which needed a higher level of detail to give it justice. Hence, three movies. Maybe three was a little overkill, but one would have felt like a rushjob.

I personally liked the idea of the female character in the movie, but not the execution; Tauriel's character felt unoriginal and flat. The romance with Kili (and Legolas, for that matter) felt...lacking, and her whole Kingsfoil and Morgul blade scene you touched on. Overall she felt incomplete and just missing something to me - good idea, but it needed more time to develop. I would agree that she's a nice foil character for Legolas, giving him a more rounded personality, though.
What a view, huh?
