Roll says... 8: I don't know.
"I have no idea," you say shortly. "He was just weird, is all. I didn't talk to him if I could help it."
"Guess so." Kitestorm waves his tail indifferently. "Well, it doesn't matter. We'll just have to remember him for the good."
You'll have a very hard time doing that.
The rest of the patrol is uneventful. As soon as you get home, you leave and try to trail her under the pretense of needing some air.
It's surprisingly difficult, given that she rolled in three different plants to hide her scent, but you've become much more experienced in tracking, and with your nose steadily to the ground, you follow her up the hill.
Tracking Skill +1.
Oddly, you can smell someone else joining her trail as soon as she gets past the bend in the river. The scent is of ForestClan, and it's certainly not Thistlenose (granted, you haven't seen her in a while, but her scent has become familiar to you). You decide to jog the rest of the way.
It's pitch black in the forest as soon as you enter, so you slow down and use your ears and nose to map your surroundings. The water is the only thing you can really hear, but something else hits your nose and you pause.
Someone tried to be clever and cover it with mint, but you can detect traces of blood.
You quicken your pace, nearly bumping into several trees, following the smell as it gets stronger and stronger. When you finally reach its most powerful point, you stop. Knotpaw's trail has gone cold.
But you can smell someone else. Two cats, in fact, and neither of them are your friend. It's Beefur and Batstream, and as far as you know, they haven't detected you yet. If anything, they're talking in voices low enough for you to be unable to understand it thanks to the water. There's a very bad feeling in your stomach.
Call out for Knotpaw.
Try to track down Knotpaw.
