Яακα
\ Male / Loner \ 1.5 moons / With the Pack \ Hrafn /

As soon as Ahote said to spread the word about being quiet and staying together, the small black pup nodded and quickly wandered back through the pack. He quietly repeated what Ahote told him to all of the wolves in the pack, but just as he started heading back towards his "uncle" , as Hrafn often referred to Raka as, the brute nearly plowed over him. Raka watched, a bit startled and frightened, as Ahote ran off to do something important. Whatever was going on, it was bad. What else could be the reason that Resin had not returned, and a decent amount of hunters and fighter had run off to do something, including Hrafn and Ahote. Those wolves were really the only ones Raka had really bonded with, and they were potentially dealing with two-legged beasts.

No longer feeling super safe at the back of the pack, Raka made his way towards the front again, where Attican was giving more instructions. Raka was still getting used to the older wolf's appearance. Of course, he showed no fear of Attican, but images swarmed his mind of similar things happening to the wolves who had gone off to help Resin. Soon, Attican looked down at him and promised to protect him, to which Raka only replied with a silent nod. He just wanted this whole thing to be over, and to bury himself in Hrafn's fur.

Soon Attican started leading the pack again, this time as a faster pace. Raka had to trot in order to keep up, but he felt safer going faster. When he realized where the Keeper was leading him, he looked up at the scale nervously and gulped. Surely there was a good reason for them to go up there, but it would be very hard to get up there. What if he slipped and fell, and then caused his packmates to slip and fall too? A voice broke Raka out of his thoughts, but at first Raka thought he had said those thoughts, since the brute who spoke them seemed to have read his mind. As the two older wolves talked Raka looked back and forth between the two, wondering if they would indeed be climbing the mountain, or if there really was a safer way?

((Humm, I don't want to push this too far and do something no one was prepared for. Anyone want to take point on what happens next, or is there a scene that is planned out that we should finish?))

Wolf
Male | 20 | Straggler
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Wolf was a bit startled when Attican's head whipped around to look at him, and he blinked a couple of times in surprise. He had no reason to be frightened of the older wolf though, and he simply tipped his head a little as he spoke, carefully considering each of his words as had become his way since he started following the pack. Already they had climbed out of his known world, and he had no idea where they were or where they were going, so if he was asking him to guide them, he really had nothing to offer. However, so far as Wolf could tell anyway, all mountains were pretty much the same: the ground was soft and earthen where they grew together in the valleys, becoming rocky and pine-coverred as you went up, and then pointy and barren at the top. That pointy bit was the worst part, as it was hard to breath and even the trees didn't like it much, so the wind would tear at you as though it thought to throw you off. As it was, they seemed to be headed directly up the side of this one and towards the pointy, snow-covered top. Now, Wolf knew well enough simply from comparing himself to others like Xani and Resinalpha, and even the older wolf in front of him, that he wasn't the strongest or fastest one of the bunch, but he doubted that even they would last long when the air wouldn't stay in their lungs.

So, what to tell him then? It was quite obvious that he was expecting an answer, and Wolf struggled to find one for him. He was completely unprepared for this turn of events, as he seemed to be frequently when speaking with others. He never really knew just what they were going to say or how they would respond to what he himself had said. It was all kind of like a little adventure, and normally Wolf enjoyed it thoroughly, but the circumstances were different now. The situation seemed to have turned dire somehow, and he felt compelled to respond somehow.

Racking his brain as they continued to climb, Wolf soon came to the conclusion that it was probably best just to share what he knew and leave it at that. Just as he opened his mouth to say as much though, he feet became tangled up with those of a little black pup (Raka) he was walking beside. Stumbling, but luckily avoiding doing a face plant directly into the snow in front of him, Wolf quickly recovered and looked back to the youngster. "Oh goodness! I'm so sorry... Please forgive my absentmindedness!" he said, looking at him with wide eyes. The last thing Wolf wanted to do was hurt someone, or worse yet, insult them, and this pup was no different. He worried over the pup for a moment, ducking his head in an expression of regret before suddenly realizing that they were once again being left behind and he still had yet to answer the elder's question. Now feeling doubly foolish, he murmured one last volley of apologies and hurried to catch up to Attican.

By the time Wolf managed to catch up to the Keeper, he was throughly flustered and padded up to him in a huff. Once he was walking next to him, he took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh to calm himself and started again. "Sorry about that... I umm, can't say I've actually climbed these mountains, so I can't really speak for what's up there, but the ones I have tried to climb are very difficult," he began, pausing to look at the elder as he scraped together his next words. "Besides being steep and rocky, there's a place where the trees stop and it is very cold and windy. Worse yet, it is hard to breath, like the air doesn't like being where the trees aren't, and it runs back out of your chest every time you try to breath it in," he stated, wondering if his words were even intelligible.

"Not that I really know anything, but if I had to make a suggestion, I would say we shouldn't climb too high. Mountains are like big pinecones stuck in the ground. We should be able to go around it without having to climb directly over top of it, and the higher up you are, the shorter around it is... If that makes sense," he said, trailing off and looking up the slope again. In all truth, he could very well be wrong, maybe it was just the mountains at the other end of the gorge that were like that? All he could do was assume, and he shook his head at his own internal dialog and looked back to Attican to hear what he would say.

Lani
Female | 57 | Hunter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Lani forced her body to be still as she stood next to Raigho, her eyes narrowed as she listened to yet another howl sound in the not-too-far distance. Looking back to him as he spoke in a hushed tone, she shook her head, "Xani, I think. Sounds like she's trying to get their attention," she replied in a whisper. His response then received a sharp nod in agreement. She too hoped the Beta could draw them away so that they could find a way to rescue Resin.

Looking back to where their Alpha was held, something across the clearing from them caught Lani's attention, a flicker of cream and red against the darker grey of the trees and she froze, staring at the spot. After a moment, she was just barely able to make out Ahote's form, his patchwork pelt blending in perfectly with the dappled shadows in which he hid. It seemed as though he had already spotted them as his eyes locked with hers and he nodded slowly, acknowledging her. Surprised, she nudged both Pilot and Raigho and pointed out his position to them.

Suddenly, Resin's voice rang out and Lani's eyes grew wide in shock. Was she mad? They would hear her! Immediately after the thought crossed her mind, Lani kicked herself inwardly for her silliness. There was no way those two-legged monsters could speak the same as they did, and there was no harm in calling out. So long as they didn't answer, the creatures would be none the wiser. Much to her surprise, Raigho did just that, and though his voice was quiet, it still made Lani wince. Frozen to the spot, she waited tensely for either Resin's reply or for something worse to happen. Her mind churned the information Resin offered, and though she had already realized that the two-leggers must be lying in wait somewhere nearby, there was no telling just how many of them there were. Xani had done her best to call them away, but would it be enough?

Off to their left, a rustling noise could be heard, and all the wolves' heads snapped towards it. Hidden carefully from view in what seemed to be a box of sorts, Lani could just make out what appeared to be a pile of sticks stand up and move slowly away from them. The strangeness of it was such that she could not help but stare, and it was only after it had gone that she realized that it must have been one of the two-legged monsters wearing the skin of the forest in the same way as they wore the skin of animals. A little disturbed by that thought, she looked back to where Ahote was, and found him staring off in the same direction.

Ahote's vantage point must have given him a better view of where they went, as he watched for a few moments longer before he looked back to where Lani and the others were. Seeming to want to convey something to them, he rolled his head in a wide circle before leveling his gaze at her once again. Confused, she just stared back at him, blinking. Seeming to grow impatient, or as if it were important, he repeated the gesture again, this time with emphasis as though he were trying to turn his head off. Looking back to her, he tipped his head down and then up again, like he was pushing snow out of his way.

Thoroughly puzzled and frustrated with herself for not understanding, Lani had to stifle a growl that rose up under her breath. What the heck was he getting at? All of a sudden, everything fall into place and the light of realization dawned on her. Excited, she looked back at her companions, "I think he wants us to go around behind them... I bet he's going to try and draw them out," she said in an excited whisper. Looking back to Ahote, she nodded, then pointed with her nose in the direction the other had gone. Looking relieved, Ahote nodded back a vigorous affirmative before stilling himself, eyes locked on Resin.

"Come on, we have to move," Lani said, and carefully backed out from their position. Back in the deep shadow of the evergreens, she crept back along her path until she figured they were close to where the two-leggers lay in wait. Then, ever so carefully she slunk forward, her gait slow and each paw-step placed carefully one before the other with her stomach brushing the snow beneath her. Close now, she could clearly see the blind the creatures had made, the trees having been bent in strange right angles. Unfortunately, this also meant that she could no longer see Resin past it, and she hoped that whatever Ahote did, it would make enough noise that she would know when to attack.

Ahote
Male | 46 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Having made contact with Lani, Ahote was relieved to see her point him out to her two companions. Whatever was about to happen, he could only hope that the four of them would be able to overwhelm whatever it was the two-legged monsters had planned. Making himself ready, he hoped, to do whatever had to be done to save Resin, Ahote's muscles tensed up beneath him. He was focused purely on the task at hand and he had pushed aside all other emotion or fear, his eyes locked squarely on one particular patch of snow about a third of the way to the thing Resin was trapped in. There he would make his stand and face whatever it was they had waiting for him.

Just as he was about to make his move, Resin's voice rang out and he faltered, very nearly falling over in the process. Freezing dead to the spot, he back peddled until he was laying back on his stomach again and he looked out at her, wondering just what she was getting at. He had no idea how she had been captured or that she meant there may be things hidden in the snow to snare him, wolves didn't think that way. They tracked, they stalked, they ran and they killed. Never had a wolf set an object to entangle its prey. Thus he had no concept that the word trap could mean something hidden, and not merely an action. It seemed as though she were simply stating what he already knew. Confused and worried for her, his ears pinned back as he considered her words.

Before he could fully grasp the ramifications of Resin's warning, a strange movement off to the side caught Ahote's attention. It seemed as though a part of the tree had come alive and had risen up from amongst its fellows and was moving off. It had meant nothing to him at the time, but now remembering the mud spattered female he had killed, she too had bits of the forest tied to her, though nowhere in such a sophisticated fashion as this. So this one must be one of the hunters who lay in wait for them, but why then, risk giving up their position to move away?

Another flicker of movement beyond the quickly melting form of the two-legger drew Ahote's attention, and a familiar scent filtered to him from between the pines: Xani. She was injured, but that meant her plan had worked and she had drawn at least some of them away from Resin and the trap they had planned. He had fought alongside Xani for many years and he felt more than a little confidence in the ex-fighter's abilities. With her coming from behind, and him in front, they could sandwich and divide the monsters, and then the hunters could come in from the back and kill them. It was brilliant!

The sight caused an uprush of hope to flow over him, and Ahote excitedly looked back to Lani and the others. Luckily, she was already looking at him, and he didn't have to do anything to get her attention. Now all he had to do was convey somehow what the plan was. Making what seemed to be a perfectly logical series of gestures, at least to him anyway, Ahote looked back to her with anticipation, hoping to receive some sort of affirmation that they understood. Instead, he received nothing but a blank stare. Darn it, come on Lani! What was the problem? He growled softly under his breath, wanting to bark orders at the chubby white fea. Instead, he repeated the gesture: go around, and then I'll come out, he thought, repeating the meanings in his head as he moved. If this didn't work, he wasn't sure what to do, as they were quickly running out of time.

Thankfully, this time she seemed to catch his meaning and Ahote was relieved when she nodded in reply, indicating the direction they would go. Nodding back, he quickly gathered his feet beneath him and readied himself again. Without a noise, the hunters disappeared from view, and he couldn't help but take a bit of pride in ScarPaw's abilities. Counting breaths as they left his chest, Ahote waited for what seemed a painfully long time, trying to give them as much time as possible to get into position since he would no longer be able to see them. He could feel the world moving around him, the hunters' careful paw-steps, the pained journey Xani took towards them, and the oppressive tension that hung in the air over Resin's cage. The silence was deafening now, and Ahote knew it was time.

Without pausing to take a breath, Ahote leapt out from cover and charged into the clearing. Letting out a snarl, he called to the hunters and Xani, "Now!" as he passed out from under the trees. Expecting the two-leggers who lay in wait to burst from cover and confront him, Ahote was puzzled when nothing seemed to happen. He had skidded to a stop where he had planned to make his stand, and staring off in the direction of the blind, his hackles fell as he stood, confused. Growling uncertainly, he kept his eyes locked on the spot and spoke softly to Resin. "Resin... Are you alright?" he asked quietly, slowly pacing towards her.

Suddenly, something lifted up from the snow and Ahote left out a yelp as it latched on to his front paw. Pulling back he looked down at it to find a loop of the same thin cord as the female monster had been weaving clasp tightly around his front leg. Just as the realization of what it was came over him, the line yanked and he stumbled forward in surprise. The other end of the line was grasp firmly in the paws of two of the two-leged beasts, and they struggled to hold onto it and keep ahold of their long sticks at the same time. Had there been three or more there, Ahote would have been quickly drug to the ground, but at it was, he outweighed them both combined and he fought back, lunging forward to grab the cord with his teeth.

The two-legs let out a strange yell in their warbling language, pulling the line tight to pick up the slack, trying once again to pull Ahote off balance. It was as if they expected him to charge them, but he knew better than to run directly into those pointed sticks. Digging in his claws, Ahote pulled back, a threatening growl growing in his chest, turning the tables on the monsters and forcing them to stumble forward. In this way, he began to reel them in towards Resin, hoping to keep them occupied long enough that the hunters could pounce them from behind.

~|Resin|~Alpha Female|~ 40 Summers|~

Things were happening that she couldn't see and it was driving her mad. Snarls and two-legger noises cut through the air. Were those the noises of her pack dying or of the two-leggers dying? A loud whine was released and she fought against the container that held her. This only ended up with her being poked full of more holes. "Someone tell me what's happening!" She snarled, baring her curved white canines. This was her own fault, but she still needed to know.

Flashes of white appeared briefly in the foliage. Lani. With her overly sensitive hearing, the Alpha could pick up several sets of paws. "Everyone stay back. Don't come out here. Lead them away or kill them first." Her worry began to grow. How could she protect anyone while she was stuck in this prison?

More sounds erupted and the grey and black female turned her yellow gaze towards the sound of rustling leaves. Ahote. Her heart sank. "Be careful." She was spitting out commands before she even realized that her maw was open. "If anything happens to you, I don't know what I'll do." There was blood on his maw, she noted, and she hoped that it wasn't his. She'd just begun to speak again when he was jerked from his feet by one of the sky vines that had led to her imprisonment. She yelped in surprise and slammed herself against the walls of the cage, fully ignoring the numerous punctures in her flesh.

Luckily for Ahote, only two of the skin beasts held the vine and thus he was able to stay on the ground. He struggled and, in doing so, the two-leggers moved closer to their initial captive. Resin waited for an opportunity and eventually it came. One of the beasts bumped into her enclosure and she snapped her jaws through one of the spaces, impaling her muzzle on the thorns, but sinking her teeth into the creatures arm. It screamed and dropped the vine to beat at its attacker, thus leaving Ahote with only one two-legger to contend with. This she knew that he could handle with ease.

If they all got out of this alive, she would make it a rule that no one went anywhere alone.

~|Hrafn|~Hunter|~ 46 Summers|~

Hrafn had run his tail off to get back to Xani. He knew that she would do something reckless and he refused to allow her to get herself killed. The big black brute ran as fast as his legs would carry him until he arrived at the exact place where they had parted ways. Lowering his muzzle to the ground, he sniffed out the direction that she'd gone in. The ground was a mishmash of prints and following any of the sets wouldn't have aided him.

Pinpointing her scent, Hrafn took off once more. Fear took hold. There was blood on the ground and it was hers. Fear gave way to anger; to fury. Dark amber eyes narrowed as Hrafn snarled, baring his teeth. Sounds from up ahead drew his attention and he rocketed forward. She needed him, whether or not she would admit it.

Coming upon the scene of an injured Xani drawing the two-leggers away, Hrafn snarled and leaped. One of the beasts, complete with its pointed killing stick, had snuck up behind the distracted, injured female. The giant brute landed squarely upon the two-leggers back and, wasting no time, dispatched it with a few savage bites to its neck. The second two-legger turned and ran, but it was to no avail. Hrafn closed the distance quickly and the second beast followed the path of the first.

Turning, Hrafn snarled at Xani, his face bloodied. "You knew that I would return. Why couldn't you wait?" He paced before her. "Had I not arrived just now, those beasts would have ended you." He padded closer. "Do you really think so little of your life that you'd throw it away like that?" Amber eyes moved to the wound in her side and the larger wolf released a sigh. Closing the distance, he pressed his head against hers. His worry for her had turned into anger. Now that he knew that she was safe, the anger dissipated and left only exasperation. "Xani, you've done your duty here. While you still can, seek out the pack and help to lead them to safety. As Beta, it's your duty."

With one lick to her cheek, Hrafn turned, fully prepared to take out any other monsters that stood in his way. He left his lady in good conscience. Her wounds were not mortal, nor had she lost so much blood that she might pass out. If she listened and rejoined the pack, it would allow him to think clearly and do what needed to be done.

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Attican's focus upon the wily brute did not last very long. Despite the heeded warning, the Keeper did not have time as Wolf fell into introspection. Naturally everything the Elder nervous - sound, scent, movement - and coming to a halt as someone mulled something over was not on his list of things to do. Rather opposing his pace even slightly hastened, his line of movement only diverted a few degrees from the original course.

Okay new plan.. follow the very outline of the trees. Quickly puzzling out rationalities, the Keeper figured that if the ground was ample enough for weathered trees to root and grow, then it would serve to be good enough for ScarPaw to pass. From what he had gathered trees appeared rather picky on where they grew - places of too much wind, too barren, or apparently too high were places they simply did not live. Also, the tall wooden plants served as moderate cover, and any sort of potential hiding spot was better than nothing at this point.

It was at this point that Wolf had scrambled back up to him, his wide eyes looking somehow even more wide than they had previously. Quickly reiterating almost exactly Attican's thoughts, the wily brute confirmed that the treeline was a good way to go.

"...Mountains are like big pinecones stuck in the ground. We should be able to go around it without having to climb directly over top of it, and the higher up you are, the shorter around it is... If that makes sense."

"Mm.." Attican murmured, head nodding just once. Again his head churned. As they had been moving sounds had flickered through the foliage, carried upon the wind from unintelligable sources. They sounded far away enough, but without actual knowledge of that being true, any sound was unwanted. Swinging his head around, he looked back, amber eye looking over the group.

Safety. Bring them to safety.

Burn still flickering in the pit of his heart (What was going on out there? Where was everyone? Was Resin okay... Lani? Ahote, Xani, Hrafn... the hunters...?), his pawed danced as he still moved forward. He knew that they had to keep going. Keep going and preferably, do it faster. Again his gaze fell to the pups who were now more or less clumped together, Raka the farthest forward and the most distant of all of them.

Despite his age and size the pup had so far proven quite an intellect and a trooper during the entire situation, both now and since his story of how he joined the Pack. However it was completely asinine to ask such a youngster to do such feats that they were about to do. Yet with his adrenaline feeding his head and body akin, it only took a moment for the Keeper to puzzle things out. 'Yes, yes that would work out nicely.'

His head dipped down, pace slowing just enough so that his movements were more fluid and less jerky, he evened himself up with the pup. "Would you mind too terribly if I carried you? Your legs would be free from walking and to be rather honest, I could use a pair of youthful eyes in addition to, well, my own."

Regardless of the situation, Attican's gentleness poured out in his words, his soft amber eye blinking softly at the pup while the other kept its perpetual jagged wink. Until he was needed otherwise he was the sole leader and provider for this picked-apart group and he'd be damned if anything came about to them on his watch. While waiting for the pup to provide response he pulled up and once again addressed the group in his lowered, yet projected voice.

"Parents, take up your pups. Friends and family help with any that cannot. We are a unit and this is no time to be bashful. We are hastening pace and following the trees. Do not make a sound - I reiterate - I do not want to hear a single voice or pipe out of any of you unless it is an emergency. Our safety is in our stealth. Do not make us lose our safety."

Unfortunately with a speech like that suddenly little Raka's reply would not really matter too much. Craning back down, the Keeper's face pulled a 'sorry' expression, opening his mouth just wide enough so that he could nip up the scruff on the little black pup's neck. Easily it slide into his maw, a firm but non-painful grip tugging the pup up and into the air.

"Watshhhh fer me okay?" He slurred, pup fuzz not exactly proving the best for talking. It was surprisingly natural feeling for the Keeper to carry the youngster however. It felt... normal. Even as he increased his pace his head moved expertly accordingly so that Raka did not get jostled, the pup simply hanging suspended in the air.

And so they were off once more, the Pack once again on their perpetual plight to flee from imminent danger.

{{Alright finally got time to crank this out.}}

Pilot
32 - Fae - No Rank

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pilot had followed Lani through the thick underbrush diligently, taking care to be quiet about it. She didn't know exactly what the situation was, but instinct told the female to be on alert. Her small pads dipped into the snow neatly, looking much like she was tiptoeing. As it turned out though, her internals been right. Not too long after their search for Raigho began did an innoculous and indisputably recognized scent reach her nose. Two-leggers. Natural repulsion hit her, Lani's lip curling reaction noting that she noticed it too. Without having to be said, both females immediately crouched down, continuing on their way with even more attention to stealth. Her ears took turns from swiveling around to being pinned back, sometimes the unease getting the best of her. It almost felt as if they were on a hunt.

And basically even though they didn't know it yet, they were. A twisted game of hunters hunting other hunters who were hunting their packmate hunters... Pilot spread out from Lani a ways, both of their noses twitching heavily from all the scenting. Every drawn breath brought new smells to the equation, painting a mental map of what had been here, what was around, how long ago they had been there, and where they had went. Where the smell of the bipeds lingered the blonde would drive away from, swinging around silently but at the same time keeping in at least partial visual contact with her partner. Raigho's scent would waft from time to time, telling Pilot that while he may have not been exactly HERE where she currently was, he was travelling and was becoming closer and closer by.

Sniff.. Hare. Sniff.. Raigho's scent to the East. Turn direction three paces that direction. Sniff.. Indeterminate smell.. mixture of wolf and ugh, she grimaced, biped. More scenting and more movement and over a short amount of time a lot of it proved to be telling the same thing - smells of the two-leggers, the wolf (Resin), and Raigho mixing. What were they doing? Hanging out together??

It all stopped however when without warning Lani halted altogether. Pilot had turned around enough so that basically she was 5 paces away from the Hunter's right back flank, head instantly jerking up to observe her behavior. With cautious gait the white wolfess took a few more steps forwards and stopped again. Even though Pilot couldn't see her face, it was clear that shock was written all over it.

Oh god what had happened??

With a sudden glance back at her, Lani then turned again, creeping away from the edge she had been going towards and instead turned into the thicket away from them both. Confused, Pilot scented again, daring herself to move forwards to the place Lani had vacated. With a singular glance instantly all the scents she had processed made sense, the invariable 'what was going on?' answered. The wolf smell she had been smelling was Resin. And the Alpha was trapped on all sides by some sort of strong tree box.

The visual turned 'What was going on?' into 'What should we do?' Immediately understanding the trap it was obvious that they could not just brutely force the Alphess into safety as going out into the open was exactly what the two-leggers wanted. The wolves had become the prey and Resin, the bait. Who knew where exactly they were anyways?

Humans

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Having traded most of their skins for camouflage the humans waited eagerly for their plan to be carried out. It was with no ease did they fashion this ambush, but all the same all the work had so far carried them to this moment. Somehow, and with a bit of luck, they had caught the head demon herself- the leader of the wolves and the one that had killed one of their members. Times were getting harder, humans too had found themselves travelling with the changing lands, their hunts getting less and less fruitful and with more time in between. Wolves not only proved a nuisance as high competition(what with taking prime hunts away from them and driving other potential quarry away), but the great beasts were deeply embedded into their culture. The pelt of a wolf proved of utmost status to a hunter or family, bringing them status and higher benefits. It drove so far the point that one was not considered a true adult until they attended a successful hunt for one. Boys would hunt the Great Wolves, females, the smaller generic ones.

However despite all that, this Pack had become rather personal, the hunt having a different meaning than the rest. This was the pack that had not only eluded their spear, but in retaliation had killed one of their most elite and high status members. This ambush was personal and most simplistically, based off revenge.

With the entire tribe in on the process it had proved quite a feat to accomplish and now everything boiled down to this. Different groups were placed at different areas, a large radius around the trap like a minefield of human eyes to catch any movement of their quarry. With the plan in motion it was now just a waiting game.

___

A young hunter crouched in the underbrush, maybe 20 or so paces away from the clearing and where the trap was set. His face was painted dark to match the earthy tones of the plants, blending in well with his surroundings. Setting himself far away he detracted his smell more or less, but still allowed his line of sight to see through the foliage cracks to spy the cage. He didn't understand why they didn't just kill it to start with. A wolf still smelled like a wolf, dead or alive. It would still draw the attention of the mass pack, why leave to chance that the beast could still somehow get away? Regardless though his opinion was apparently not in favorable majority because as it stood, even though lightly injured, the she-wolf was still alive.

Rolling his eyes, he huffed silently, trying to not let his exhale rustle the branches that were attached to his body. How much longer would they have to wait?

___

Three men dashed through the brush, their caribou skin shoes muffling sound as they ran. They had to leave one of their own behind for dead, for they had just unsuccessfully encountered a she-wolf. Their eyes were wide with terror, only a few weapons in their hands. The others had been lost during the fight.

Having been drawn to what sounded like a unsure howl a small group of men had stalked and gathered, intent on bringing the beast down. Two of them were essentially carrying the third, They had just encountered she-wolf, surely one from the pack, and despite efforts they had been unsuccessful in downing her. Instead it seemed that the wolf almost seemed to know what it was doing, and even though they had managed to get a few weapons into her, she was not stopped and had overtaken one of them. Even if they had managed to grab him the action would have proven futile, he was just too far gone. Fearing for their own safety the three had turned about-face, fleeing for their lives. On the simple hope that they had injured the beast enough, they scrambled up a bank, finally reaching to where their provisions were. One wolf meant more and they didn't want to leave their comrades to fight all by themselves when the gathering happened. Yet what met their eye stopped them accordingly in their tracks.

The girl they had left the supplies with was no more. A gruesome scene laid before them, the scenario all too obvious and too familiar on what had just occurred in their own battle. Their breath left hot trails of steam out through their open mouths, gaping like fish at the realization that this pack was not just defending themselves.. They too were hunting..

Three tribespeople down at their own paws. The beasts were around and were smarter than figured. Grabbing as many weapons as they could hold they ran forwards once more, anger and fear driving them forwards.

____

Pilot
32 - Fae - No Rank

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It went from a scene of nothing to everything all at once. They had shuffled around the clearing at what seemed to be countless times, meeting up with Raigho and hashing out silent plans from across the way. Amazingly Ahote, the new mate of the Alphess, was suddenly there too and even though they had not spoken a word it appeared that Resin was aware of their presence as well.

With baited breath Pilot found a set of boughs that umbrella-ed above her, allowing her essentially complete concealment with the continued ability to move around. For what seemed like forever (but was really only a few moments) the air was deadly silent, as if everything was simultaneously holding its breath. She certainly was. What had started off as a simple day of going on a walk before moving on with the Pack had turned into a dangerous rescue mission with innumerable amounts of unknown enemies. Besides their smell and the fact that she had been told that they walked on two legs, Pilot didn't even know what two-leggers looked like.

Another half second passing and with a provincial leap, Ahote lept his way from the underbrush. He growled threateningly at the air and with anxious eyes the fae waited for an onslaught of beasts to come out of nowhere, their positions given away. But instead there was nothing. Craning her head back towards the direction of Lani, the blonde gave a look of an uneasy 'what do we do now?' but before any sort of return could be brought a loud snapping sound drew her attention back towards the clearing. A cord-like vine came out of what appeared to be nowhere and right before her eyes foliage turned into strange creatures. What she once thought to be a tree trunk and bush both lept forwards, tugging on the other side of the cord that Ahote had been ensnared with.

Two. There was two... shouldn't there be more than two??

Surely there were more. Not wanting to give away position unless absolutely necessary, Pilot held her place like a statue, her muscles bundled as they waited to be allowed to move forward. Being the hefty brute that he was, Ahote drug the two male creatures with what appeared to be decent ease and with one last tug even the trapped Resin was able to be useful and close enough to chomp down on one of the enemies weird forelegs. The man screamed out, immediately letting go of the vine and instead began beating at the set of jaws that munched him.

For a moment it seemed that all would actually be handled, the four ample wolves surely being able to take care of these two (apparently very soft) creatures. But as the cry rang out it seemed that the forest around them came to life.. rustling from all angles suddenly bursting forwards.

Two spears were hurled into the air, one missing aimlessly, but the other just hardly whistling past Ahote's chest. Birds suddenly burst into the air, frightened from all the sudden movement. In an instant 6 two-leggers in addition to the other two ran into the clearing, yelling things in their own language, many carrying waistbands of assorted weaponry. Not waiting for the other two to come forward, the little blonde female tossed herself into the clearing, teeth bared. With a clean angle her teeth sunk into a calf of one of them, their outburst making the others turn their heads away from their original quarry of Ahote.

A frenzy had begun, both the wolves and the humans fighting for the upperhand. Weapons slashed and teeth gleamed, outcries from both sides coming forward.

(Sorry if this post seems... off. I'm not in a good spot right now.)

Xani
- Female - 21 - Beta -

As Xani continued moving forward, she would pause occasionally to lick her wounds once more. By now, the other two-leggers probably knew that she was here, but she still didn't want to lead them back to where she was going. If they snuck up behind her while she was in hiding, it would give away her position and likely endanger anyone else that was around. While she didn't know who exactly was there, she did know that a decent number had shown up to rescue their Alpha from the clutches of these beasts.

Just as Xani stood once more, the sound of a fight startled her. Turning quickly, she spotted Hrafn snapping at the throat of a two-legger as another one ran from the scene. She tensed, wanting to leap after it but too pained to do it now. Luckily, Hrafn was fast enough to end that one as well. Blood clung to his fur as he turned, splattering a bit around on the snow. While it didn't really stick out against his black fur, the added effect it gave made the brute even scarier looking than normal. There was a bit of anger in his eyes, but she highly doubted it was anger so much as him being irritated by her stubborn actions.

As Hrafn spoke and snarled at her, she simply held her ground and stared him down. It didn't bother her when he spoke to her like that as much as it did when others acted that way, but it was still irksome. "I think highly enough of the others that I risked my life for them. Now that many more are dead and they're that much closer to saving Resin!" Her voice came out as a low angry growl, but her anger seemed to dissipate a bit as Hrafn approached and rested his head against hers. Now, she was feeling that same strange emotion that had her stomach rolling whenever she was around him.

As he spoke about returning to the pack, she slowly and unwillingly agreed, showing that with a nod of her head. She watched him for one more moment before turning away from the trees and glancing back the way she had originally come from. Who knew how far the pack had moved since she had left? She didn't even know how long she had been fighting. Her sense of time was normally overtaken with adrenaline and, in cases such as this, she barely remembered anything from the fight itself except pain and blood.

Huffing angrily, she turned and started off towards the pack at a trot. It pained her to move fast because of the weapon in her left flank, which seemed to stab deeper into her with every step she took. If she moved too slowly, she'd never find the pack, though. Growling at her own weakness, she picked up the pace and began to limp a bit more as she went, sometimes skipping multiple steps on her back left leg to accommodate the injury. She reached the spot where she had left the pack and found their footprints leading towards the nearby mountains. How am I supposed to climb the mountains like this?

Huffing and shaking it off, Xani kept up her quicker pace and kept moving up the mountain. It wasn't until she climbed over a ridge that she finally spied the pack in the distance. The large form of Attican was easy to make out, and it was then she realized that he was basically the only one of rank with the pack. Had everyone else really gone to help Resin? While she was proud of the courage of her pack, she was also angered at their foolishness. Attican was a good leader, but he was old and injured.

It took another while to actually reach the pack, but she did nonetheless. Those in the back of the pack seemed to be a bit freaked out by her initial appearance, both by her injuries and the smell of her blood. It had stopped bleeding by this point, but it was still painful and oozing now and then. Her packmates spread as she moved up between them, muttering under their breath at her haggard and bloodied appearance.

When she finally made it to the front of the group, she found Attican and Wolf and slowed her pace to match theirs. "Attican. The others are still helping Resin." Before he could make any word about her injuries, she continued. "I don't think anyone else is truly injured, though I can't vouch for Resin. We've managed to kill a few of them so far and I've returned to help lead the pack to safety." Glancing up at the mountain then back at her leg, she let out a huff that nearly held a hint of a whimper in it. If there was too much climbing, she would only hold the pack back with her injury. If she pulled out the stick in her leg, though, they'd leave a bloody trail for the beasts to follow them by. Looking back to Attican, she decided to trust his judgement on the matter. She was too tired to make a real decision at this point, anyway.

{{Okay so I'm not really sure if I'm really next in line to post, but I hate seeing this get abandoned for so long so I'm just gonna go ahead I guess. Again, if you need and or want me to play anything out (humans or otherwise) just send me a message and I can do it.}}

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With the pups safety nipped up into parental and adult mouths, the sneak-away journey of the Pack instantly became smoother. Overall the pace increased rather dramatically and with the group no longer really doing too much elevation hiking they managed to cover decent ground an a short amount of time. Attican held Raka dutifully, keeping care to the fact that the pup was small as he tried his best to keep the little wolf from swinging.

He rounded past a fallen log, choosing to go around instead of jumping it. He could feel Raka shift in his mouth as he moved, gravity working against him. However with a little head bob the Keeper managed to shift the pup's scruff into a better position. "I'm shorry." He offered, ears instantly swiveling to the sound of a tree snap.

No, okay it was good.. just a packmember choosing to jump the log. Every sound sent the Elder off, his senses working themselves into overdrive.

So far everything on their side had been good. No sight or smell of two-leggers and for that alone Attican was grateful. It did not give him any peace however. Having no idea or indication on what was really going on in the forest weighed heavily on him and it was very difficult to keep his mind from wandering. What was happening out there? Was everyone still okay? ...Where was Resin?

They traveled more, skirting the treeline and its protective barrier. A few more kilometers and he'd soon have to think about where and when to hide. How far was too close, and how far was too far? As it was there was no way to disguise their paw trail, if a two-legger (or a group) should happen upon it, the only safety net ScarPaw had was their distance. How persistent were their bipedal foes? Taking his previous encounter into judgement, Attican could guess that it was high.

Knowing that there would be no way of vocal communication for all who were out to relocate the mass group, the Keeper had taken to scent marking trees about every kilometer they passed. Slowing for only a moment he would sidle against a tree, rubbing the velvet gland at the midpoint of his tail against the bark. He knew without a doubt that this would be traceable.. especially if Lani was among the bunch. Back even when the Pack had been sedentary in their previous lands it would be rather often that the fluffy white fae would track him down as he marked territory lines for ScarPaw. It made for some rather awkward walkbacks with a flustered Attican, and a very smug and satisfied Lani.

A rustling disturbed the Keeper's train of thought, for a second taking away his focus. Rustling meant.. something.. something 'not Pack.' Wheeling himself around, Attican's head dipped down fluidly, plopping Raka neatly into the snow. He had just gained momentum to move towards the disturbance when his eye met the creator, stopping him completely.

Xani.

"Attican. The others are still helping Resin. I don't think anyone else is truly injured, though I can't vouch for Resin. We've managed to kill a few of them so far and I've returned to help lead the pack to safety."

Finally, some news. Yet this wasn't at all how he had wanted it, nor what he wanted to hear.

Everything that typically exuded from the Beta was gone. Her voice sounded tired, and while not defeated, it definitely did not bear the vibrato and willpower that it typically always housed. Her appearance visibly made the brute wince. Blood had dried and caked in areas, places on her shoulder and flank bearing the most of this testament. "We will stop for a moment," he half uttered to the group, the gesture essentially useless as the Pack had all but came to a halt anyways. "Xani-" He cut off again, noticing for the first time the weapon dug spearingly into her leg. His sentence changed. "That has to come out."

It was not a question, nor an offer. His words had become all but business and he stated it as fact. "Can you reach it or do you wish for me or someone else to do it?" If she refused he had at least a dozen different returns for her on why he was right. This was not a game and he had no intention on playing around.

His head turned to their moving direction, puzzling all sorts of variables in his head. "We still must make haste."

((There isn't much of a post order at the moment. Rhaigo is no longer in the story since their player is too involved with school to continue. Someone get Resin out of that damned cage, eh? :b My vacation starts tomorrow, so I'll make a post then. If anyone would like to post in the mean time, go for it!))

{{If no one seems to be up to it, I'll have Pilot help Resin out. She's smaller anyways and is kinda useless on the fighting end. With everyone else fighting she could slip away pretty easy.}}
