A word of caution to anyone using Gimp:I've recently noticed a problem with the crop tool. When cropping with "Current layer only" NOT ticked (so cropping all layers at once), the top of the image and occasionally the bottom will NOT
always crop in accordance with the crop boundaries you set.
Examples:
It's a hardly noticeable difference, but look at the top of both BWs. The one on the left is the original, where the crop tool worked correctly. The one on the right is cropped wrong, where the crop tool malfunctioned or something and deleted part of the top of the pet's wing; it doesn't have the knobby bit that the left BW does.
There is no set amount of pixels that the crop tool will cut off when it bugs out, or whatever this is; I've seen it cut off from 1 pixel up to at least 10. The bottom half is less often affected, and usually to a lesser degree. I have not yet seen this happen with the left and right boundaries, only the top and bottom. Let me say this now: this is not user error. I have tested this dozens of times when working on more of the BWs. It happens a lot, and even though it's not all that noticeable, it's very annoying, especially since I did not notice it before doing a
ton of pets for the Transparent Archive. Not all of them are affected, but I know some are, and it kills me to think of leaving them this way. >->
If you are using Gimp to crop something, best to move the layer/s down two ticks to counter this problem, as the extra distance will help you to avoid any unwanted cropping.
There may also be an effect on image quality, though with small images such as CS pets it is hardly noticeable.
