Roll says... 6: Confront them (WHAT).
You narrow your eyes, and step out from behind the tree as silently as you can. Knotpaw makes a worried face, but is right behind you. The cat still doesn't notice.
She practically leaps five feet in the air when you say, "Hello there, Jayface."
She whips around to look at you, nearly stumbling off the ledge in the process. You don't move, secretly delighting in the effect your appearance has had on the two guilty parties you've interacted with so far. Knotpaw stands steadily by you.
"What are..." She's nearly hyperventilating, trying to collect herself after the scare. "What...um...how are...Rookpaw? You're here?"
"Astute observation," you say dryly.
"I didn't...I'm, uh..." She looks between you and the water.
"You're not planning to go the same way that you sent the apprentices, are you?" you say. "Even if you jumped in, it's a slow ride to the beach, and Knotpaw here's a pretty fancy swimmer."
Knotpaw's tail whips around. She's bristling a little.
"I...Knot..." Jayface stammers a few more times, before she finally gets an idea and snaps, "Crowcloud and Eveningstar will be very angry that you were here!"
"I'm sure they'll be more angry about your friend over the border," Knotpaw says. Her eyes are as steely as with Cinderpaw. "Not to mention your part in all of this."
"Mind explaining that, by the way?" Your tail curls over your back. "You've only got so much time before it's all out in the open, even if you keep silent."
Jayface fumbles with excuses and complaints, but being faced with two unflinching gazes, she gives up. She sits back down, head hanging. "If you want a confession, then yes, I killed Darkpaw."
"You did it." Your voice is steady despite your own fury.
"I did it." She sounds like she barely believes it herself. She looks over at the waterfall, and when she speaks again her voice shakes with grief and confusion. "I just...she was right there, just minding her own business, and I...he said that, if I did that one thing, then I'd be cleared of everything, and..."
"Who said it?" You lean forward.
She doesn't hear you over her own voice as she quickly falls apart. "I just...I really loved her, you know? I didn't expect it to go this far, but...we got found, and... I just- I didn't want anything to come of it. I didn't..." She finally looks up, her normally beautiful face twisted and contorted with overwhelming emotion. "I was scared, Rookpaw. I wasn't thinking. I only..."
You start to growl something, but Knotpaw rests her tail on your leg, silencing you. Her face is stony.
"And I just- I can't keep it a secret, not my part." Jayface's legs wobble enough to make her crouch. She stares at the ground. "If you want to- if you want to kill me, go ahead. I deserve it. I just don't... I didn't want Rose to get hurt."
"So you killed an apprentice," Knotpaw says flatly. "Over something so trivial as that."
"I wasn't thinking," Jayface mumbles. "I didn't think."
There's a long stretch of silence as Jayface collects herself. You're not sure whether to be delighted at how quickly you got your confession or furious over the circumstances.
Finally, it's Knotpaw who speaks. "You need to come back to camp with us."
"And do what?" Jayface looks up from her cowering position.
"We'll figure that out along the way." Knotpaw glances at you. "We have to bring her back. She needs to face this, in front of everyone."
I say we kill her.
What if she runs?
Fine with me.
Maybe she can just leave.
Say nothing.
