Raddy, could you explain how exactly you're doing fishless cycling? Are you just filling the tank up and letting it run for two weeks without adding anything?

FuzzyThePunkCat wrote:Can you guys remember every fish you've ever had? I can for some reason xD I can also remember everything about them like what tanks they were in, where I got them, who their tank mates were, when I had them, etc.

I've had (past and present): Luca, Kaiden, Addison, Blittz, Tango, Viper, Riaka, Tyrone, Lunar, Lilac, Aiyako, Dallas, Axel, Rune, Ryuu, Cisco, Jesse, Coda, Cyan, Mocha, Chanel, Harley, Bronson, Nala, Brando, Apatchi, Zeppelin, Cruz, Gizmo, Raven, Blizzi, Jade, Little Nubby, Chance, Andy, Chester, Riley, Kuma, Peanut, Snowball, King, Marcus, Akame, Crash, Cagney, Zowie, Starlight, Hershey, Noka, Carmel, Fudge, Leal, Topaz, Skye, Taz, Tally, May, Checkers, Jasper, Kenzy, Dottie, Sunkist, Latte, Tawny, Sorrel, Cappuccino, Cardinal, Dreamer, Sunset, Miroku, Marley, Jaguar, TyeDye, CherryBlood, Moonshadow, Blossom, Rose, Ozzie, Sorren, Striker, Aurora, Fender, Beaker, Blue, China, Caesar, Pirate, Honey, Hornet, Runner, Grizzley, Marble, Goggles, Frappe, Choco, Miles, Glacier, Steeler, Google, Galaxy, Ocelot, Kody, Kurotora, and Mustachio!

And my sister's fish (past and present): Dakota, Blaze, Marina, Ash, Flash, Bash, Lloyd, Pine, Mickey, Braille, Ice, Comet, Thead , Torpedo, and Rainbow.

Many fish. So. Many. Fish.
I had a fish named Rainbow once, she a was a gorgeous female Betta that died on Christmas Eve, three days after I got her.

I've had Golden-y and Shiny (goldfish), Tommy I, Tommy II, Tommy III, (all three tommies were bettas) Flare, Ember, (fire-belly newts) Billy-bob, Sunset, Valentine, Clowd (spelled like that on purpose), Coral, (platies) Scarlet (rcc in a brackish aquarium, don't worry.), Hoppa Hoppa (wood frog), Jumper (oscar), Fire, Snowflake, Zebra, (african cichlids), Blackie, Bumble, Goldtail, Golden, Goldie (mollies), Captain Jack, Leutenaint, Colenal (idk can't spell, just imagine army ranks), Susie, Pawn, (black-skirted Tetras) Nightbeam (freshwater angel), Flarefin (albino red-tailed shark), Carrot, Spec (more platies), Shadow (pleco), Shade (another pleco who died 24 hours after I got him/her, my theory is that the goldfish, [who I was keeping for the summer] despite being like 3 inches smaller than Shade, did it.), Ocean, Navy, Rainbow, (bettas), Tiger, Spotty, Cripple, and the most recently deceased Dancer. (platties)

My living fish are:
Blueberry, Serpent, Cobra, Chroma, Feather, Rose, and Knight. All but Knight are Bettas.
Blueberry is the only male.
Yes, Knight is a girl.
idk. I read lots of Manga before I got her so the name stuck.

Has anyone else had a fish that was named something completely irrelevant and random, but the name stuck?

I have a betta named Toothless. I didn't want to name him that, but nothing better came along.

I added some Tetra safe start and I occasionally put in some water from my other tanks when I did their water changes. I have no clue why the tank keeps rejecting the fish .:/

i have had countless fish, yet hardly ever name them(due to the fact that they don't listen to their name, I just called them "fish").

I have had:

8 goldfish, 25 guppies, 18 bettas, four garfish, three Oscars, 10 or more brown hoplo catfish(think of a cory catfish the size of a football), 100+ mosquito fish, four angelfish, 10 flagfish, 7 Bluefin killifish, 16 golden topminnows, five or six plecostomus, several hogchoker founder(they are tiny freshwater flounder), two clownfish, four yellowtail damselfish, a blackfin blenny, a pair of scooter blennies, four or five various goby species(both fresh and salt), a walking catfish, 25 or more mayan cichlids, 5 or 6 tilapia, and a bichir...as well as a siren salamander(a fully aquatic eel-like salamander, so I will count it as a fish).

I doubt people on here could beat my variety of rare and exotic species :P. most of the fish listed were wild caught and lived in the wild up until I netted them. most were re-released later on.

It's rejecting them because you're not actually cycling the tank. There's much more to it. Try reading this article for a start. (:

The bacteria needed for starting a tank adhere to solid surfaces, so putting decorations or gravel in helps, but just putting another tank's water in does not.

My guppy died yesterday :c

Now I only have one fish left; my goldskirt tetra. And she is so lonely its heartbreaking. She does nothing but stay in one corner of the tank. I have to like... Wait for her to die Dx I can't get more of her kind, because my tank is too small. ;-;

The tank has gravel and everything in it, so the bacteria have probably formed. The other fishes' water is just so that the bacteria have something more to live on while no fish are in there. And thanks for the link, I will definitely read it!

I have personally never done a fishless cycle. Due to the fact that I never trust a fish from a pet store to start my tanks up(domestic fish tend to be covered in disease so I try to avoid buying them, hence I keep a lot of fish I catch myself). I use a wild caught mosquito fish or sailfin molly(the most durable of the fish around here)that I catch from a 100% safe area that I hand pick to be my starter fish(basically I hunt a fish that's in its prime, without any issues on it, and I take this fish from a wildlife preserve or somewhere where we people don't destroy the water), I have never lost a wild fish to this cycling and, due to an issue with wild fish here hating domestic fish, remove the fish from the tank, maybe even set it free again(or put it in a 10 gallon tank on my porch, to live its life fat and happy on mosquito larvae and algae).

I am jealous that you have local fish that you can scoop up and put in a tank, it sounds awesome! The only fish we have around where I live are minnows and mosquito fish (I think) I do want to start up a tank just for them, but my tanks have to stay in my room and I don't have any other stable places to put a tank. :/
