also, this brings a question to mind. they made sure it was known that there is no magic outside of hogwarts, so why, in one of the movies (i think it's Ootp) starts with him trying to do lumos maxima...

I actually was JUST thinking about this the other day when I was watching HP: The Prisoner of Azkaban. I was like "WAIT A MINUTEE......"
Though it was just a light spell, it doesn't harm muggles or wizards (I think??) and he didn't do the spell in front of a muggle, Vernon to be more specific when he opened the door to Harry's room to see what he was doing. So... maybe that's why he wasn't reported on?

If you could choose to take a role in the Harry Potter books/movies as a new character (as if Rowling edited the series) who would you be, and how would you affect the story without bending the plot?

I would be a girl who was about a sixth or seventh year harrys first. My family would be one pf those families who stayed out of the war as much as they could, considering my mother was a mudblood. But even though i kept to myself usually and was somewhat shy i had sadistic thoughts almost as badd as bellatrix. (I would be slytherin XD) So once I graduated I would becone a death eater mentioned a few times in Voldys groups. I would be devoted to the dark lord and bellatrix would be my idol. In the real wizarding world, I would probably be an auror..(only because wrn i first got into the serie, i wanted to be on the orders side) yeah, i used to be a goody. Come at me bro!

I don't know how to say this, but I'd probably be a Ravenclaw that turned out to be friends with Snape, and we'd probably turn out to be great friends with each other. I'd likely be in Harry's year, and I would know things about Snape that only Dumbledore and Snape himself knew because I'd be that type of a friend. I wouldn't be Lily, but I would be there for Snape to get over her death in some way or another.

I'd personally be in the Order of Phoenix, because I disagree with the whole "mudbloods are useless/stink etc" thing, and obviously Voldemort's going the wrong way about it. You know. Torture and murder.

However, I'd really like a dark mark...hmm...

I would rather not join either. xD I'm not brave enough to go up against Voldemort, or be evil like that. I don't have the guts or skill to look death in the eye. If anything, I'd be part of the crowd, just trying to get away and stay safe with my family. But if I had to choose one, I'd be in the Order, because the unfair treatment to muggles seems irrational to me.

I'd definitely join the OotP because I'm not discriminatory against mudbloods and I generally disagree with the Death-eater's motives. Although, Death-eater masks are hella cool c;

Death Eater all the way! As a witch, I do think I would believe that wizards and witches don't deserve to have to hide. Why should we? We would be more advanced than muggles. I think i would be different about mudbloods though. Its not their fault they were born to a muggle. As long as said mudblood doesn't make the same mistake and marry a muggle, I wouldn't mind. Heck, Voldemort himself was a halfblood. But Id like to see someone make fun of him XD. I think I could live with "For the Greater Good". I would be devoted completely to the Death Eaters like Bellatrix. And, like her, I might be a little on the insane side lol. I would have a soft side though, for my family and close friends. But, to make sure they were protected, I would create a fear among people of myself so no body messed with us. I believe that the wizards shouldn't have to hide, or live in fear of people who would be infirior to us. As a muggle, I would GLADLY serve them as a spy and whatever else they needed that I could provide.

I know I'm a horrible person ;_;
