Roll says... 5: Meet up with them.
Best to make sure things go smoothly. You step out into the path, pretending to have just wandered here on accident.
Knotpaw seems surprised, but greets you. "How's your leg?"
"It's better," you say, glancing down at the limb in question. "I just need to go easy on it, is all."
"That's good." She smiles, looking a little nervous. "I heard it was quite a, um..."
She glances at Cinderpaw, whose eyes are narrowed, and adds quickly, "That is, we were just planning to get some hunting in. Do you want to come with us?"
"Sure!" you reply brightly, before Cinderpaw can protest. "I'd love to. I might not be able to hunt very well, though."
And so you head out, pretending not to keep a very careful eye on them as you walk next to Knotpaw. You end up near the middle river, and you take a second to try stretching your leg a little as you sit in the sun.
"I might as well do a little fishing," Knotpaw says. "I mean, it-"
"You're always doing a little fishing," says Cinderpaw. "Every single time you go hunting it's fishing."
"Well, yeah," says Knotpaw, looking surprised. "It's...I'm good at it, is all."
"Maybe that's why you're so slacking in other areas," the brutish molly replies, almost stern. "Go hunt some mice or something."
Knotpaw looks like she's about to back down, but she glances quickly at you, and then finds her voice just as Cinderpaw turns for the water. "Are you really one to talk to me about slacking?"
Cinderpaw looks back at her, with an unfriendly look in her eyes. "Excuse me?"
"You're always so busy bullying elders that you can barely catch a naked bird," Knotpaw continues. Now that she's picking up speed, it's getting easier for her to talk, and her voice grows louder. "The one thing you're good at, you use to beat up anyone who disagrees with you. Instead of, I don't know, putting it to good for the Clan?"
Cinderpaw growls, and starts for her, and you jump up to get between them, but Knotpaw doesn't back down. There's a very steely look in her eyes that you've never seen before. Even as Cinderpaw looms over her, there's not so much as a flinch. You almost think you're looking at a different cat.
"What I do isn't your business," hisses Cinderpaw, but she doesn't do much more than bristle.
"So why do you always get into mine?" retorts Knotpaw. Her voice is astonishingly steady. "I can do what I like, and I shouldn't have to keep cowering when you puff up and growl the second you don't get your way."
You have a strong feeling that Knotpaw is close to being hit, but you're not sure what to do.
Get between them.
Call off Knotpaw.
Call off Cinderpaw.
Sit back and watch.
