Since I was unsure, I watched my fish for a while, and realized the problem; My guppy was biting the Goldskirt's fins off... He won't stop and I'm not sure why he is in the first place. Does anyone know if there's a way to stop this? Her fins are literally half eaten.

How big is your tank?
If you have the room I would add afew more fish
Maybe two female guppys will keep him occupied instead if harassing the skirt tetra (which should aso have some friends since they are schooling fish)
Odeen wrote:Yeah, both guppies and skirted tetras are social species and prefer to have friends. Just having one of each is bound to be putting both on edge, which tends to make tetras very shy and livebearers like guppies very nippy. If your tank is large enough to accommodate a couple more of each, that would be ideal, but if it isn't I would possibly suggest surrendering one or both until you can afford an appropriately sized habitat for their schooling needs.

My tank is a five gallon... I won't be able to get any more I don't think. I also have no way of selling the fish...

My grandma has a 50 gallon that is extremely overstocked(it started with two angelfish, 12 platies, a pair of swordtails,a small group of sailfin mollies, four normal mollies, and a few schools of tetras, and two plecos, but livebearers took over) but now she has a problem, her fish are now losing chunks of skin. What fish in the tank would attack the others. The marks are the size of an American quarter.

She knows the tank is overstocked but pet stores here wont take the extras, and she wont let me take the extras home to be oscar snacks.

If it's not illness(which I also think is a possibility, if there are injuries on several type of fish), then I'd bet on the angelfish...

Hey guys, i want to inquire about this and hopefully start a discussion. recently (in my state anyway) there was a new item being advertised on TV called My Fun Fish Cleaning Tank

you see it looks nice and works nice but the simple fact is, It's WAY too small to keep anything other than maybe fry, sea monkeys, or snails/shrimp, if even those types of fish, maybe a bumblebee goby. And even then, you wouldn't be able to heat the water! It's utter bullcrap, honestly. "... Perfect fish tank for kids, teens, even grandma and grandpa! ..." the commercial claims. Here are some facts.

*** The Dimensions are 4.5 x 4.5 x 10 inches
*** It only holds half a gallon of water
*** It is recommended for Betta fish Only (even though the commercial shows it with comets and fancy goldfish as well)

I personally believe bettas need at least 2.5 gallons. i'm not sure about the above species, though.

What do you guys think?

I've seen that before. It's another really silly gimmick to sell over-priced, bad fish tanks to unsuspecting people. Unfortunately a lot of people just want a fish but don't want to deal with the amount of effort and space that a proper tank would need, and this is right up their alley. =/
The only positive is that it makes changing the water so easy that there's absolutely no excuse to not change the water at least every once in a while. Those tanks get so disgusting so quickly, and a lot of people just toss their fish in them and never tough the water again. It's slightly less of a death trap than other betta bowls, although it's sad that the bar has been set that low.
Shrimp could probably survive in there, but even then I'd be scared that they'd get sucked up during a water change! It's just an awful tank, really.

It would be cool to adapt that for a bigger tank, though. It would make water changes so much more simple. I have a 2 gallon drink disoenser that I just turned into a tank that works pretty similarly. I'll post a few pictures tomorrow.

I have had to do the same many times with my Bristlenose Plecos
They have spines on their gills which they flare out when they get caught which get stuck in the net
I used to try to pry them out but I found it easier to flip the net inside it, rest the net in the water a let the fish get out itself when it calms down

Too small for anything really. And like if you say it's only okay for betta, then why heck show a goldfish in one... People are stupid enough to actually put an goldfish in just because there was one in the add... -_- Can't fit a filter nor heater in it either, so nope not fish friendly(shrimps also could use a filter I think). I do admit the cleaning system is pretty darn smart, BUT only works with very coarse gravel or stones at the bottom. Personal preferance of course, but I like sand more. It could actually be fairly pretty with one or two aquatic plants, as the shape of it somehow reminds me of a vase. XD
Ugh, but I just generally hate when companies advertise/sell stuff like that, when it's clearly not suitable for keeping fish. :/ Thankfully they don't sell junk like that where I live, at least not anymore...

Too small for a goldfish, but it would make the perfect viewing tank for small wild caught fish, or as hime said an awesome vase. If this was out when I had my weird betta(he lived in a vase all of his life because he stressed horribly in a proper tank, he made bubble nests in the vase and lived to be six years old, all in a small vase, my four other bettas called 2.5 to five gallon tanks home) I would have tried moving him into it.

Man, ever since I moved the plants from another tank into my large community tank the cories have been having a blast! They won't stop cleaning the plants, and for some strange reason they FINALLY started using the cave I put in there 2 months ago. It really changed their behavior, haha :D

I also moved my male moon-tail beta into my community tank, and he's doing great! I thought he'd start fighting with the other fish, but they all seem to be getting along :)

I have this lingering feeling that my two fish won't last a whole lot longer. (They are't sick or thing; I just seem to have that feeling.)

I'm wondering what I should get for my tank if my current fish do end up passing. I have a five gallon freshwater tank with an LED light, five gallon filter, and no heater. It has three small plants, a small barrel structure, and a decorative rainbow, as well as gravel of course.
The only thing i thought of was a Beta. I had originally bought the tank for a beta, but the beta had died before I managed to get home. I just want to know if there is anything else and if so, what to avoid buying. I'm asking because I don't want what happened the first time; I went to petsmart and ended up way over-stocking my tank with fish that need more than one of its species.
Any suggestions will help, thank you. c:
