Whoo~ first adoptable is up!

This guy is a reel catch!

please ignore my bad puns

This will be a story competition, perhaps explaining his chains? Art is a bonus, but the story is the most important element. feel free to add other sections to the form if you wish. ^ u ^

Still gotta tweak a couple tidbits in his shading and add a background, my laptop is acting up so I decided to post it a lil early. I will post an unshaded version for reference as soon as I can~

    name;; poseidon - 'don'
personality;; Don is very energetic but can also be very calm and collected. He enjoys simply messing around and being center of attention from time to time, occassionally appearing a tad full of himself. However, in reality it is just him having fun and not so much caring what others think of him. Don does appear to have a flirty streak but it doesn't seem a very dominant trait of his personality. He is simply a friendly and fun loving guy. Don likes to think that he is approachable and that he is easy to get on with however he is unsure to whether this is actually the case.
story;; Poseidon swam along the sea bed, collecting seashells in a tattered old fishing net. He flicked his tail at the mud, sending a murky cloud into the surrounding water as he ran his hand through the sand for the shells in which he searched for. As he grew up, the sound of boat engines had become something normal to the perculiar sea creature.

The burring and whooshing of the engine rang in his ears as he swam towards the surface of the water out of curiousity, he had been warned time and time again that he should avoid the boats. But did he listen? No.

He saw a swarm of fish, deciding that he would feel safer surrounded by the small aquatic animals, Don swam into the school and surfaced. He could see creatures similar to himself aboard the boat, he ignored the waves as he watched with curiousity as a net - similar to his own - got chucked out into the water.

Poseidon turned his head as he felt the fish pressing closer, he dived down as he twisted - catching his tail in the net as he attempted to escaped. He let out a squeak, similar to a Dolphin, "Help." He thrashed along with the fish as the net was lifted up.

It wasn't long until he and the fish were up on the boat, he watched the dying fish as the creatures gawked at him. He squeaked again as he was tugged out of the fish pile rather roughly. His lungs ached. His throat hurt. He was use to the pressure of water on him, but out of water, he suffered.

Don was taken ashore by the fishermen who spoke to him in a perculiar language. The young mercreature was introduced to people, or atleast thats what he thought. He heard the land creatures shouting at one another as he turned his head to the water, quickly he dragged himself towards the waters.

He feared for his life as he was grabbed by several of the humanoids, one of which tore the fin on the side of his head. He let out a cry before he was shoved into a small confined space. Tears flowed down his face as he curled up, clutching his fins.

Poseidon got dragged out of the crate, he had chains tied to his neck and another on his tail, before being put into what appeared to be some form of display. He had been told about this before by elders in his group, but he hadn't realized that they were chained. He knew that he would be here a long while.

Of course, this wasn't the case. A few days after Don arrived, a girl came along during the night - Don was unaware of how she managed to get him out without awaking him. The pair are now very close and she has taught him some english and he has taught her some squeaks - however she's not very good yet!

Maius

Postby .chamomile. » Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:57 pm

the basics

ųşεŗŋąɱε .chamomile.
ŋąɱε Maius; he has no middle or last name though he does have an alias
ɠεŋđεŗ Male
ąɠε 124 human years
ɓïŗŧɧđąγ November 23rd
şεхųąℓïŧγ Bisexual
σƈƈųþąŧïσŋ Maius calls himself a wanderer
şþεƈïεş Mermaid/person/man

why do I want him?

When I first stumbled upon this character, my first thought was, "Oh my goodness, I hope he's still up for adoption!", which is to say, I instantly fell in love with him. I've never had the chance to adopt a humanoid character before, or anything other than an animal hybrid/species. Although mermaids can be at times, plain, I loved where his fins were placed, the spots along his body, his sharp, shark like teeth and the simple yet eye catching pattern on his tail. And to top it all off, a set of chains that set him apart, creating a wholly unique character that I can't wait to spoil and develop throughout this form. As a swimmer myself, and a lover of the show H2O, I couldn't not try out for him. As soon as I saw him, the name Maius popped into my head and ideas about him, his life, and his species flew into my mind. If I were to win Maius, I would do my best to role play him; perhaps I would give him a human form to role play with (though I think I would rather role play him as a mermaid). I would definitely order a lot of art of him, since I can't draw human anatomy to save my life! Maius would be the first humanoid character I've adopted, and I have a strong feeling that my signature would become Maius themed. If I were to win Maius, I would definitely flush out his character some more. I think that he might actually get his own website, since there's so much information that I have about him and his species, as well as the potential for more short stories, expanding his relationships, writing stories, creating art, and doing fun things like questionnaires and interviews with him.

species information

þɧγşïҩųε
Mermen
In general, mermen are what humans call "buff". Though they are thin, they are still well muscled and have broad, strong shoulders and chests, as well as flat, hard stomachs earned by doing labor and swimming long distances (which uses a lot of their core muscles). Their arms are slender, but not thin and willowy like the women. They have large, somewhat bony hands, and long bony fingers that look as if they would snap easily. Their teeth are usually a pale yellow color, only the richest members of society have their teeth whitened, which is a sign of class and superiority. Due to genetics, mermen usually have sharper teeth. They're sharp enough to break skin if they bite, but aren't uncomfortable and they do not cut their tongues or other parts of their mouth on them. The facial structures among mermen vary. Some have strong, thick set jaws, firm cheek bones, and broad, flat noses, whereas others (mostly royalty) have slender jaws and cheekbones, more tapered eyes, and small, thin noses. Fin shape and size vary depending on their genes, though most have large back and tail fins, and smaller arm and ear fins. Mostly, men have long, thick tails that are "muscular" and strong, allowing them to travel at high speeds. Its more common to find men with dull or darker colored tails and fins, though brightly colored ones are not uncommon.

Mermaids
Mermaids, also referred to as merwoman, are described as slender, or curvy. Their torsos are generally longer than an average humans, and their shoulders are also broad but thin, not like the thick muscle of the men. Their arms are long and willowy, giving them a delicate and ethereal look. Their fingers are not as bony as the mens, though they are long and slender, and the women are more vain about keeping their nails trimmed; the rich women of society sometimes will tint them with a special salve, but only for special occasions. Their tails and fins are usually lighter, livelier colors, which some mermaids take extreme pride in. The mermaids have delicate facial structures, whether they be a member of the royal family or a poor peasant on the streets. Their eyes are more slanted than the mens, a lot like Chinese or Japanese humans. Their hair is always long. To have strong and well set facial features, like a merman, or to have short hair is considered vile and is looked down upon by society. The only ones like this are those who are not merpeople (half fish), and instead they are half shark, whale, sting ray, etc. Mermaids have smaller fins than males, but they still swim often and have defined abdomens; they just can't travel as fast.

ƈųℓŧųŗε
The Merpeople have an interesting culture, both unique to their traditions and similar to that of humans. They have a language similar to English, though their inflection and accent is slightly different. Merpeople celebrate their own, history specific holidays and events. Things like Christmas and Thanksgiving and Halloween don't exist for them. Merpeople, like many human cultures, are heavily focused on educating their young and stepping up in life. Though the Kingdoms may try, there will always be those in poverty, and those with riches beyond measure. Merpeople use a set of ancient symbols, what would be like Latin to humans, to write and read. All in all, there are fifty three different symbols each representing letters and sounds that string together their written language. Merpeople are tolerant when it comes to marriage and relationships, letting their sons and daughters choose who they want to be with rather than forcing their ideals onto them, or in some rare cases, an arranged marriage. Amongst the Royalty, however, those aristocrats who marry commoners are often looked down upon, though not completely rejected. Noble blood tends to run with noble blood. While the Merpeople try to be a prosperous, generous, and peaceful folk, there are always the psychotic few who want to ruin the lives of others. Oh, and there's a black market too which often runs in the darkest corners of no mans land, where no one can catch them.

ŧŗąđïŧïσŋş
There are three main festivals that each of the nine Kingdoms celebrates: Heavnah, Day of the Fire Lilies, and Shi'na'ra. Each of the festivals are unique in their own sense. However, I will be describing Heavnah in full detail, and the other two briefly so you won't get too bored.
Heavnah is the largest of these events, as its celebrated by all nine Kingdoms over the course of thirteen days (a lucky number in their culture). This event happens once every two years, and the location of the event is decided by the Asylum. For the most part, the location is relatively stable, though the Asylum has been known to switch locations every few weeks or so. The location is finalized exactly one year, thirteen hours, thirteen minutes, and thirteen seconds before the first day of the event. There, the Merpeople of all nine kingdoms come together to exchange news, eat, talk, dance, and meet new people. Generally, on the last night of Heavnah, there is a grand ball in which only the noblemen and royalty are invited, but there are those commoners who are also given the chance to join in on the festivities. On the third night of Heavnah, the King of the host Kingdom gives a speech about the festival, officially welcoming the eight official Kingdoms, leaving out the last one (Imithe). The fourth day consists of games that humans would play at carnivals, and on the fifth night there are the equivalent of fireworks. A play, opera, or musical (sometimes all three) are put on during the seventh night. The eighth day is the day of feasting, and the ninth day is one of games again to signal the ending of Heavnah, but it also reminds everyone of the fun that they had and the fun that they continue to have. The eleventh day consists of storytelling. There are bards who sing, ladies who dance, and of course, the Bearers spread their news as well as gain new information.
Day of the Fire Lilies is a day of rebirth, where the Fire Lily plants, which bloom once every five years, blossom and release their fiery orange petals into the ocean currents. The 'day' lasts for thirty seven hours, and is full of good music and fine eating.
Shi'na'ra is an ancient tradition amongst the Merfolk. It has been around since the Merpeople believed in the Gods and other supernatural beings, before they discovered technology and science. Today, it had been modernized and doesn't have as much religious meaning as before. On this day, which lasts from the first ray of the rising sun to the last, people send offerings to the Gods through special cases called E'ni. The cases are essentially small pockets of air which can hold items, and are launched up into the heavens. Each Merperson is expected to give something handmade, such as a toy, clothing item, food, etc. The day is often filled with religious studies for the children, and prayers for the adults.

ŧεƈɧŋσℓσɠγ
Technology amongst the Merpeople is the only thing thats uniform about them. Each kingdom holds in the center a large structure, varying in design, that houses a well guarded system called the Asylum. No one except for a very select council of scientists, named the Guardians, knows what the function of the Asylum is, how to work it, control it, and fix it. Though each kingdom has a jail, there are stories and legends passed among the people that the truly insane criminals are "fed" to the Asylum, or forced to stay there and become subject to the strange experiments of the Guardians (though no one knows if these rumors are true or not). The Asylum protects the city, its like a security system of sorts. To simplify things, it creates a large merpeople only bubble around the kingdoms land, allowing only those who are half fish, as well as half whale, sting ray, etc., through. Anything tainted by humans is not allowed it. This is the general function of the Asylum. Its other functions are a mystery, not even the Guardian know everything about it.
The other piece of technology used by all Merpeople is a sort of computer called the Fy, an invention created by a group of Guardians from Fyra (hence the name). It serves as a bank, a credit card, a phone, a texting service, an ebook; the Fy can do almost anything. And because it can do almost anything, the Asylum "watches" Fy activity, preventing and shutting down potential criminal schemes when it can. Traditionally, mermen and women receive their first Fy on their eleventh birthday, and its usually the only one they will ever have. Fy takes on the form of many objects which then "transform" into a small, flat screen. Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, hair pieces; anything that a merperson can wear or easily carry can be found as a Fy. Merpeople mostly use it to pay for things. Its more common for children to use it as a source of entertainment. Fy, unless worn by a merperson, cannot leave the bubble the Asylum creates. That is, if someone were to lose it and it got caught by a current, it couldn't wander into no mans land. The only thing that differs between the kingdoms is the type of currency used, and also the style of the Fy.

species history

ŧɧε þąşŧ
Merpeople have scientifically proven that they evolved from what they call the "prototype", a being resembling a human but failed to evolve into the air breathing homosapien that walks on the continents of Earth. Their history, or more accurately human history mirrors their own. Merpeople started off as wanderers, moving with the currents, eating what they can catch or find, never really settling down in one place. This period of time has been determined to only have lasted about six hundred years, when Merpeople discovered agriculture and began to settle down. At this point in geological history, Pangaea was just beginning to break apart, shifting the ocean currents and environment, forcing Merpeople back into a phase of wandering as they waited for the land to settle. It wasn't until relatively recently, when the continents we know today were completely formed, that the Merpeople had begun to settle again. By this point, they had developed some small technology, a language, and knew how the land masses would affect the currents, environment, and climate. Thus, a feudal period began. Different tribes and groups of people fought for control over fertile growing land, areas known as the Seychelles, the Gulf, Hawaii, the Great Barrier Reef, along with other areas that humans haven't explored yet. This feudal period lasted until humans began to walk on land, officially ending in 832 B.C.E. Thus, eight original kingdoms were formed: Fyra, Tishnu, Amayla, Shinen Dur, La'Kien, Meirdre, Escovo, and Carni Eshnu.

ŧɧε þŗεşεŋŧ
Today, there are nine kingdoms. After years of being treated as outcasts by those who were half fish, the merpeople who were half sting ray, shark, jelly fish, eel, dolphin, and many others broke off from traditional society, found and fought for their own land, and formed their own kingdom known as Imithe. Imithe is the only odd one, both because of its people, and because its not a monarchy, like the other eight kingdoms are. They are all relatively peaceful kingdoms, the only one still consistently causing trouble is Shinen Dur. Each year, all nine kingdoms meet up for a large festival called Heavnah. This festival is a time for all nine kingdoms to gather in one place to celebrate, pass on news, spy on each other, and generally, party. The Royalty meet up to discuss issues that concern all of them, and often princes and princesses will court each other.

ŧɧε ҡïŋɠđσɱş
Imithe is a mess, to say the least. They have no government of any kind, they are poor, they harbor criminals, and in general, its an awful place to live. The other eight kingdoms are ruled over by a King, or Queen. The firstborn child of each ruler become heir to the throne, no matter the case (unless they die before coronation). The councils, each of which cover different issues, then advise the King and make most of the decisions for each kingdom. The two largest kingdoms, population wise and economically, are Fyra and Tishnu. Imithe is the poorest, and is just barely below Shinen Dur, which is still a relatively aggressive and war like kingdom. Any area outside of the nine kingdoms is known as no mans land. There, there are no rules or regulations. There aren't many merpeople that live out there, but there are a few. Some are criminals in hiding, others are travelers known as Bearers (the wise men of their culture), and some are just there because they refuse to live in any kingdom.

the fire prince

The story has been cut down for size, even though its still pretty long. Sorry about that!

I used to be an empty shell. But now, I'm just lost. I have no one to go to, no dreams to uphold. I try to delude myself into thinking that I could be a Bearer, but everyone avoids me. Maybe that’s too harsh. They just don't care what I have to say, what news I bring from the the other kingdoms. And it’s all because of these chains. They bind me still, though I broke free of their meaning only a few years ago.

----------

"Maius! Maius!" I hear a voice call. Its loud, and angry, though not deep like a mans.

I woke up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, blinking slowly as I adjusted to bright sunlight filtering through the water. "Maius, get up, 'else yer really goin' to get it kid."

Damn, I thought, its too early for this crap. Bettie was standing in front of me, anger in her green eyes. To say the least, we didn’t get along. I was always causing trouble for her, and she was usually cleaning up after my messes.

“I don’ have time to take care of ye,” Bettie snapped, waving a frying pan in my face, “get yer lazy bum up an’ start workin’!”

I groaned, working in the castle was awful. Actually, it’s a pretty decent job. I only say it’s awful because it’s the only life I know, I wouldn’t know the difference between a good life and a bad one. Apparently people in the Kingdom would love to have a job here, at the Palace, but I would rather be some lowly merchant selling goods I made myself for a price that’s not fair to me. I sat up from, shoving aside the sacks of flour that I had fallen asleep on the night before. Though the King provided generously for his employees, I generally refused anything and everything that they offered me. They had provided me with my own room, which I rejected. They provide me with three meals a day, which I rejected. They provided me with clothing, and I rejected that too. I go to the market and buy my own groceries, a hard task seeing as I’m not allowed to leave the Palace.

The guards keep me here. I’m trapped.

Bettie yelled at me again, “Peel the potatoes damn it! We haven’t got ourselves all mornin’!”

Oh, I forgot to mention that I’m a cook. A kitchen helper, actually. That’s what I’ve been ‘hired’ to do. Bettie is the head chef, but she’s been training me over the years. She always told me that a man who couldn’t cook was worthless, because fighting and strength doesn’t mean anything unless you can feed yourself.
I peeled the potatoes, a frown on my face. I wanted to help cook breakfast, not prepare it. I knew that even if I asked Bettie would say no. Today was the Prince’s birthday, and all of the food had to be perfect, so I would not be allowed to cook.

“Bettie, when will breakfast be ready?” Thames asked, the Butler. He always liked to poke his head in the kitchens and bug us, usually putting Bettie in a bad mood.

“It’ll be ready when its ready,” she said, slamming a pan down on the stove, “now get out of m’kitchen!”

I let out a small laugh at the offended look on Thames’ face, halfheartedly throwing a potato peel at him as his tail whipped around back up to the main floor. I took them over to Bettie, who was now cracking eggs, and asked what to do.

“Well slice em’ up you numskull! We’re making hash browns, not mashed potatoes!”

“How am I supposed to know?” I snapped back, “You didn’t tell me what the menu was.”

Grabbing a knife, I angrily began slicing up the potatoes into perfectly rectangular and thin pieces. I hated days like this, where we had to celebrate the birthdays of royalty. It didn’t help that the King and Queen had sevens sons and three daughters, and that today happened to be their eldest sons birthday. There was to be a ball, with a fantastic feast which we had been preparing for for days. A perfect breakfast was only the beginning.

“Is everything going alright?”

Every head in the kitchen looked up, except for Betties. “Your Highness!” I exclaimed, surprised.

It was the Prince, and I mean the Prince. His name was Antioch. Those who knew him addressed him as Prince Antioch. His parents and siblings often address him as Antioch or An. We just called him your highness, though he did visit us often to ‘check up on your wellbeing’ or to grab a snack before dinner.

“Please, continue,” he said. The work resumed. Like I said it wasn’t unusual for him to drop in from time to time, though the women still fawned over him every time.

I suppose that’s because the Prince is attractive. He’s different from the rest of us. He has status, power, wealth; things that we can only dream of having. He’s attractive to all of us as a materialistic desire. Can I say that I’m attracted to him? Yes. I want his life, I want to have enough money to sustain myself, I want power. But, he’s also physically attractive. Antioch has flaming red hair that trails down to his waist, and sunset orange and blazing red coloring on his tail and fins. His skin is just slightly tan, his eyes blue, his smile stunning. The women fawn over him.

“Maius, you’re bleeding,” the Prince pointed out. I hadn’t noticed that I had unconsciously cut myself, he must have distracted me.

“Please don’t refer to me as Maius, Your Highness,” I said, not meeting his gaze.

Antioch was slightly older than me by a few years. We had been friends as children, before I had been led into a life of servitude. Before my parents, noblemen of course, divorced and left me behind. Antioch took me in, and I became property of the Palace. I had golden chains placed around my neck and my tail. Small sphere shaped devices on the end of them prevented me from swimming at high speeds. The Asylum controlled them, they were like a rope that was constantly pulling me back.

“Then don’t refer to me as Your Highness,” the Prince retorted, glaring at me.

“That would be improper, Your Highness,” I responded, emphasizing the last phrase. I refused to acknowledge his existence these days.

He ignored me, “you’re still bleeding,” he pointed out, holding the sliced finger in his hands.

I yanked my arm back. His skin burned me. “I can take care of it myself,” I said, staring at the floor.

I wish we were still close.

----------

I hate dances. This ball, the glamour, the glitz, the women in fancy clothing. It doesn’t suit me. I’ve been recruited by Bettie to be a server for the party, no matter how much I begged her to let me stay in the kitchens and help out.

“Ye need t’ learn yer manners somehow,” she had said, “an’ ye ain’t gonna learn them from me, an’ certainly not in the kitchens.”

So here I am, wearing a black tailcoat and pressed white shirt underneath. Silver cufflinks gleamed in the light of the chandelier. My hair had been styled so that I looked nothing like the kitchen rat that I was used to being. I was here, a tray of drinks held aloft in one hand, scanning the dance floor for my Prince. I can’t hide my feelings for him, I’m bad with my emotions anyway. We were so close as children, doing everything together. I thought that we would be with each other forever. What childish thoughts. Antioch and I, we are meant to be. Or maybe we aren’t and I’m just making things up in my head because he’s the only one who understands me and women mean nothing to me. I had given up on finding him. It was too crowded, though I knew that he had to be around somewhere. Antioch was probably entertaining some lady or duchess, or perhaps a foreign diplomat come to congratulate him.

I felt a breath of air tickle my ear, “Maius,” someone whispered.

I turned my head slightly. Antioch was there, standing behind me. He was dressed in pure white. He looked like an angel, my angel.

“An?” I whispered back, just barely. It was like we had stepped back in time, back to when we were close. A small smile played on his lips. It wasn’t often that I called him that, An. Even when we were kids I reserved the use of his nicknames to times when I was angry with him, or felt elated, or when I was upset. Or sometimes, when I wanted to make sure that he was still there, still real to me.

“Meet me outside of my room when the ball is over,” he whispered, and then he was gone in a flash.

----------

“Maius? You actually came?”

I had left the party as soon as I was done serving dinner. Bettie kept me a bit longer, letting me put on the finishing touches of the fruit tarts she had made.

“You requested me to meet you here, Your Highness. I cannot disobey an order from my superior,” I said, knowing perfectly well how mad it makes him.

Antioch merely sighed, opening his bedroom door. “I hate it when you do that.”

“I know,” I said, closing the door behind me, “but things have changed between us Antioch.”

“Has it though?” he asked, tossing aside the pristine white clothing he had been wearing, “I know that we don’t get to spend time with each other anymore, but aren’t we still close?”

Angrily, I rattled the chains around my neck, “These chains mark me as property of this Palace, like every other lowly servant who was so blessed to be ‘adopted’ into your family. You know that I am nothing but a piece of furniture to your father. If it weren’t for the fact that my parents abandoned me, we would be close still. If I still had the status of a nobleman, we could be close. But I have nothing An, and you know that I’m nothing without you.”

He closed his eyes. The fireplace was now quietly crackling, spitting the occasional spark at the floor. I looked away, leaning against the wall. “I brought you something,” Antioch said after a while, his voice broken.

In front of me, he dangled a key. It was the key to my freedom, the one that would take these horrid chains off of me. “Are you serious?” I asked, my voice hoarse with disbelief.

“I am, but you have to promise me that you won’t run away,” Antioch said, kneeling so that he looked me in the eye, “you can’t leave me.”

But he knew it already. He knew that as soon as I was granted an inch of freedom that I would take that inch and stretch it into a thousand miles, that I would leave the Palace and never come back.

“I promise,” I said.

The chains fell off of me, seeming to float down slowly, like a feather. “Antioch,” I said, “I can’t … I can’t believe… this is—you freed me.” I said.

“I know, I know. But please, please don’t run Maius. Please don’t leave me,” he asked. Begged, even.

And then I left. I flung open the doors and raced out of the Palace. The guards didn’t question it, didn’t stop me. Behind me I vaguely remember a fiery orange Prince swimming after me, but I was stronger than him. I always was.

And then, I stopped. At the edge of the barrier that the Asylum created. I was here, at the edge of the world. No man’s land was before me, a disgustingly polluted area of ocean that meant freedom from the laws of my Kingdom. But was I ready to leave?

Somehow, someway, my mind made my body swim back to the Palace. The guards didn’t stop me. They didn’t question it. Were they even there?

Antioch was still waiting in his room, tears in the corners of his eyes. Had he really cared for me that much? A decision, suddenly, to put those chains back around my neck and tail engulfed me. I would not accept charity from this Prince of mine. I would sever our childhood bond. Me.

“Maius, what are you doing?” Antioch asked, now aware of my presence.

I heard the click of the rings, knowing that they were secure, “Freeing myself, I don’t need a Prince in shining armor to save me,” I said.

I went to the fire, sticking the chains into the hottest parts of the flames. It would melt easily, I knew. The chains were mostly gold, tempered with steel to make them strong, but not strong enough to withstand constant heat. I felt the heat on my skin, I felt Antioch trying to pull me away from the flames, telling me that I would burn myself. I felt the white hot metal in my hands as I tore what was holding me back off. The heat burned my skin. It felt like my Prince was burning me with his hands.

And so, I had freed myself. I left.

----------

Now I’m stuck, lost. I went to no man’s land. I was the apprentice to a kindly Bearer, who took me from Kingdom to Kingdom and taught me his ways. I changed myself, though I’m still lost. Do I really still need him, Antioch, in my life? Perhaps I will see him today, or tomorrow, or Heavnah next month. I want to be something, but what? These chains bind me still, they bind me to my King.

How do I get rid of them? Physically? Or will there come a day where they mean nothing to me, and nothing to anyone, where they become meaningless in the great course of life? I can only hope.

personality
Maius is a feisty lad, a man who hasn't grown up yet, and a man who is lost. He is a Bearer, or at least he wants to be since no one acknowledges him. He's confident and stubborn, and completely self dependent. Maius isn't the honest type either, nor is he the kind of guy who can reveal his emotions easily either. He ins't fond of large social interactions such as balls and parties, preferring the simple methods of storytelling and campfire stories instead. Maius, while friendly, can seem like a flirt sometimes. As a big fan of gossip, one of the many ways to gather news from the Kingdoms, he has to be able to get close to people without seeming suspicious or having malicious intentions (though in some cases he does). He's done his best over the years to become more mature, using his knowledge of swordsmanship to protect himself, his ability to read to scour the libraries and scrolls of other Kingdoms, his way with words to get around town and find information. He's changed a lot since he was a child and a kitchen worker in the palace. Despite the fact that the chains mark him as property of the Kingdom Tishnu, and there are murmurs and rumors throughout the Kingdoms he visits, he still strives to become wiser, more sagacious, a calmer, peaceful soul. For Maius, this is a new journey, and a new life. He often goes by Jehm, an alias he came up with for himself so that none would recognize him, though that would be unlikely.

history

Maius's parents are noblemen, though they are now divorced and left Maius in the care of Prince Antioch and his father, the King. He lived a happy, wealthy life until the age of eleven. He knew all the while that his parents were fighting when he wasn't around, calling each other names and threatening each other with blackmail and violence. He did his best to be the best in everything they had him do, from swordsmanship to seahorse riding to literature and acting. Maius was brought up alongside Antioch, as Maius would often visit the Palace with his parents and would play with the young Prince. When his parents divorced, he was given the golden chains that marked him as property of the King. He was assigned to work in the kitchens, where he was raised by Bettie, the head Cook, through his teens. From her, he learned the inner workings of the Palace, and of course, how to cook a proper meal. Prince Antioch often dropped in to talk with Maius, though the two rarely met or spoke outside of the kitchen. Maius knew that he had fallen down on the social ladder, and that keeping his friendship with Antioch would be impossible. Antioch was too busy traveling from Kingdom to Kingdom, worrying about domestic issues, worrying about the humans to ever have enough time to spend with Maius. Not only that, but the King had also forbidden their friendship, and plagued Antioch with burdens that he wasn't quite ready to handle. At the age of nineteen, when he had just become a man, Maius broke free from the Kingdom, literally. He severved the chains that kept him there, and immediately left for no mans land. There, he met up with an elderly Bearer named Tristan, who taught him the ways of wisdom and spirit. The chains held Maius back, though, for when Tristan died only two years later, only a few would listen to what he had to say. The merpeople of other Kingdoms know better than to converse with a runaway servant, no matter what his or her story was, and no matter their existing or previous status. Over the years, the merpeople have gotten used to him delivering news, as several other Bearers died around this time, and their numbers began to decrease. And despite this new status, Maius never visits Tishnu, and he does his best to avoid Heavnah but still manages to get caught up in the event (for some reason, the Asylum keeps choosing the Kingdom that he's currently in).

OMG, THIS GUY, HE'S SO CUTE HNNNNNNG
fyi, his personality might sound like other entries, but I promise that I wrote it before even looking at the other entries. the reason that it might sound like other people's entries is because he has a mischevios/fliratious look in his eyes

going a little deeper wrote:Personality;
Annoying
Klayo is considered annoying by all the merfolks there are.
He is very obnoxious and is like a predator, constantly attacking
you with childish and annoying remarks. Klayo Is always telling
stupid repetitive joke or puns with no respect to the fact that they
sometimes get old. Klayo does not acknowledge authority and will
treat a king and a beggar the same way he might treat a commoner,
or a friend. Not like he has any real friends.
Flirtatious
Klayo is extremely flirtatious, he's always going up to mermaids,
or human women and telling the most cheesiest pickup lines known to man,
whether human or merman. He is a little desperate, being that flirts with
women he doesn't even like. He knows that he's a little infamous among
the Merfolk and Humans usually pass out before he could even finish the
pick up lines, (but there are those few cases in which someone will run after
him screaming "TAKE ME WITH YOU") however he flirts with girls anyway.
Whether he does it to get a girl or not is a mystery. Every now and then you
can hear him laughing in the background after yet ANOTHER failed attempt
to get the girl and saying "ah it gets better every time."
Mischevious/ deviant
Klayo is also a mischevious. He loves to pull pranks on other people and has
usually lost a friend, or a date, because the prank went to far. He likes to laugh
at people, not with people (unless they're laughing at someone of course) and this
can be very hurtful to others. He find's other merfolks pain a fails amusing and
loves to go on Bluetube to look up "epic fails" or stuff like that when he isn't
pulling pranks or flirting
A little thief
Now this is were Klayo's guilty side begins to show. Klayo is also a thief along
with a annoying jerk. He loves those shiny and precious items that you can only
get from the royals of the Merfolk. Thievery is one of his biggest hobbies. He's a
bit nocturnal and spends the night hours sneaking into people's houses and taking
only the most precious items. When he loses interest he sometimes gives the
items back or sells them in the black market.
Musically talented
Like everything "under the sea," Klayo is musically talented. He has a great
voice and is good at writing songs. Though he could start his own little band,
Klayo finds more pleasure in the excitement of thievery. He loves the rush that it brings,
the adrenaline when your close to being found out, and the joy when you get away with it.
And so, despite the fact that he has a few of his own songs that he writes out and sings,
Klayo prefers a faster paced life. He prefers to be infamous rather than famous.
Anxious
Kaylo has a bit of anxiety problems. He mostly always feels like someone
is watching him and is always looking around to see who it is or is nervously
fiddling with his chains. The is one of the reasons that he is so talkative,
by annoying other people he feels like who ever is watching him is getting bored
and looking away. Or at least, that's what he hopes.

Kaylo's life wrote: story;
The silence was all around, it felt ominous. like something was stealthily watching Kaylo, about ready to pounce on him and kill him. He looked around for the umpteenth time. But noting was there. No one else would be swimming around, or even awake, at this ungodly hour. Yes, only Kaylo would be awake at two am in the morning. His tail silently swished in the water as he slowly crept up to the biggest home there was, the King's home. Even at 2 am in the morning, it made merpeople dumbfounded. For a second Kaylo hesitated, considering returning home, or stealing from a lesser Merperson. The home, no castle, was so tall that it blocked out the distant moonlight, so tall that many humans thought that the top of it was a small island. And here was puny Kaylo wanting to go into the Royal Treasury and steal the most valuable items. He shook his head, this was suicidal. he should turn back now. Yes, there was a good chance of getting caught, but he had never gotten caught before, why would he get caught now. Also, think of the fortune the would make if he got out alive. Kaylo smiled in a dreamy way when he thought of all the sand dollars he would make. he rubbed his scaly hands together and swam upwards for the nearest window.
When Kaylo finally made it to the nearest window, he slipped through quietly barely beating his tail. his fingers touched the ground softly and pushed off. It was a slow way of moving, but a lot silenter. he tried to ignore all the antiques lining the walls of the castle corridors. Even one of them would make he the richest merman in the black market. He imagined living in style, maids surrounding him. Man, he would be fending off smooches with a stick. he slapped his face a bit. Geez. He needed to get a grip. He did this all the time. Day dreaming about doing something that was right in front of him. Kaylo went forward. Forcing himself to only think of the task at hand. He needed to stop daydreaming.
After about an hour of slipping silently throughout the hallways, Kaylo finally came to the majestic double doors blocking off the Royal Treasury. "Well they certainly don't disguise the Royal treasury, now do they." he asked himself. He put his hands on the doors and pushed at them. They squeaked a bit, but opened without much compliant, "And neither do they have much guarding."
Kaylo entered the room and let out a breath of awe. The gold, precious stones, and pearls were piled in unorganized piles taller than Kaylo. Kaylo's breath of awe broke off with a squeak of excitement. He saw around the gold, brushing them lightly with his slender fingers. "So much treasure." He breathed. He just want to take it all home with him. Kaylo could see it now, richer than all the kings in all oceans of the whole world. He stretched out his arms and let himself sink into the gold coins and sand dollars. "I never wanna leave." He said dreamily. But he knew he had to. Before he was found out. He let out a little groan, like someone who was woken up early and lifted himself up. He started to circle mound after mound of gold, trying to find the most valuable item. Then, he saw it. It was a pearl. Bigger than his own head. It was just SITTING there, waiting to be stolen. "Well hello there." He said, checking his refection and giving an award winning smile. "You wanna come home with me?...Yes? Well that's great, cause I want you to come home with me." He put his hands under the giant pearl and strained at the weight. His eyes bulged and he grunted a little.
"Sheesh girl, you weigh a ton." He told the pearl. The pearl didn't respond. He had probably offended her by commenting on her weight. Kaylo did not apologize, but resorted to rolling the pearl across the floor. He was a little less sneaky as he closed the doors behind him and rolled the pearl down the hallway. He saw a room with a window come into view and let out a sigh, he started to use his tail to propel him. That was his first mistake. His second mistake was hitting it against a relic. He notice the glass vase floating to the ground quick enough to break it. He turned around and grabbed the vase, letting go of the pearl. Kaylo's tail slammed into a giant gold clam shell. It fell to the ground with a THUNK. And then there was a few more thunks and then a crash, and then another crash as he let go of the vase. The pearl had slammed into a few more relics, causing a mini chain reaction as relics fell on top of each other. Then there was a bunch of slamming noises, the doors were closing themselves. And then an unearthly wail of an alarm cut through the water. Kaylo let out a whining noise and started down the hallway. He needed to find a door that hadn't closed or a window. He had to get out. He pushed against each door, panic flooding through his mind. He sucked in water through his gills as he swam forward. He didn't care about the pearl. It would be worth nothing if he was dead. With every hard beat of his tail, he knocked something over, causing more noise, continuing a trail of broken relics. Then he saw them, Shark guards. Like a normal Merperson, but they were half sharks. They were swimming right towards him. Kaylo let out a squeak of fear and turned around. SHOOT. They were on that side too. No no no. This wasn't possible. He had to get away. He couldn't be caught now. He bellowed in rage and slammed his body against the door. Pain went through his arm, but he didn't care. He slammed his body against the door again. And again. And again. And again. He lost count. All that was left was the danger, his fear, and the adrenaline. Hands gripped his arm. He screamed like he had been stabbed. Kaylo fought against the hands. Against the danger. "LET GO. LET GO. LET GO." Those were the only words he could scream. The only words he could muster. Then something was strapped against his neck, so tight it cut off his voice. Something was stuffed in his mouth. Something was strapped around his tail. He let out another muffled scream of pain. Of fear. Then something hard crashed against his head. The world descended into black.

"let go..." His voice came out in a quiet plea. Kaylo's dreams were filled with horrible images of actual sharks surrounding him and ripping him to pieces. The dream would end with pain and blood. And then it would start again. They always tore through his arm and chest first. Always. Why did it hurt so bad. Dreams weren't supposed to hurt. "please, let go..." He was slowly coming back to reality. He heard his own voice. He would see the gray walls. Then the jaws of a shark. He shivered and pulled his arms around his bare chest. But moving his right arm hurt too much. Wait. He had slammed his body and shoulder against the door. He had probably bruised something. Kaylo had fully came back to reality by now. He shivered in the stale waters of his prison cell. Wait. PRISON CELL!?! Panic started to close on Kaylo's mind again. But he forced it out. He needed to calm down. Just take deep breaths, wait, not through his mouth. He choked on the water and coughed, forcing himself to breath through his gills instead. He let out a few more coughs and drew in more water through his gills. There, that was better. Now, time to get out of this prison. Kaylo pulled at his restraints a little, pinpointing where they were. On his neck and tail. OK, this shouldn't be too hard. Kaylo swam backwards so his back was against the wall. He pushed the gold chain under the piece attached to his tail and slammed his tail against the chain. That hurt his tail a little, but he kept slamming. It took around 20 times until the chain gave away and his tail was set free. Ok, now for his neck. Kaylo was exhausted, but who knew when a guard come to inspect the ruckus Kaylo was making. He did the same thing with his neck as his did with his tail. He tucked his head in and slammed the back of his neck against the wall and his chains. It took about 30 times until the chains gave away on his neck. Ok, now for the lock. Kaylo pushed his tail through the space between bars. and then he started slamming the shell lock with the metal. It gave away after 2 times. Kaylo pushed the door open and sped through the dungeon and the castle until he came out. He gave one last sad look at the castle, and then sped back home. Planning on taking a nap, gathering his things, and leaving for good.

Past:
Kaylo was the middle child of a five person family. His father had an accident before he was born and his mom was left to take care of her three children, two girls, and Kaylo, her only son. Kaylo's older sister made a little bit of money and Kaylo collected seashells, selling them in the small town so his family could eat that night. When Kaylo was nine, he had made friends with the wrong kind of people. They were orphaned children who stole for a living. Despite the job being less honest and more dangerous than his usual scavenging, he would get enough money from one home to pay for meals for weeks. The orphaned children knew that Kaylo had a family and used that against him. They would tease him if he wimped out, goad him into stealing from the richer people, and bully him into giving them a large sum of the profit. Kaylo eventually was caught however, and he was punished severely by his mom, his "friends" and the community. He was about 15 when this happened and he was old enough to get an actual job. Kaylo discovered his talent for singing and tried to get a career for that, but, because of his reputation, no one would hire him. In fact, he couldn't get a job anywhere, whether it was a part time cashier at Kelp Burgers or if it was an actual career, no one would hire him. He then started going back to being a thief, but this time he went solo. He felt guilty about it though, but that was the only way he could provide for his family. he soon felt so guilty that he ran away from home, but no one followed him to bring him back.

Interview with Klayo wrote:I have to say, Kalyo, it's nice to speak with you, you have quite the reputation
Ha, I have a reputation, but not a very good one.
Everyone knows that by now.
They do? Thanks a lot. You're great at keeping secrets. Not.

I wanted to ask what you would be if you weren't a thief?
Are you seriously asking this question? I'd be a musician, obviously.

And what genre of Music would you play?
Hard rock. Definitely. I might have a little bit of screamo and rap in there, but I cant do either of those for the life of me.

And if you were a Rockstar, would your clothing choice be any different (or existing)?
HEY. For your information, Merpeople have no need for clothing. I have way more clothing than most other Merman. *gestures to chains.* But If I were a Rockstar, I would definitely wear alot more. I would probably have more chains, preferable silver. I'd wear all black with silver buckles, chains, and studs on it. I'd also shave have of my head and straighten the other side, dip dying that side black.

You sound so excited when you talk about your clothing choices. Why don't you wear all that stuff now? You have enough money.
It isn't as easy as that. First, wearing all that and not being a rockstar kind of makes it not cool anymore. Second, merpeople might find it creepy. I have been notified that many mermaids think it's creepy that I flirt with them during the day and sneak into their house in the dead of night and go through their stuff. Just think of how creepy they would find it if I was wearing all that.

Yes, you are a creepy stalker Kaylo, Everyone already knows that.
Wait, I didn't mean it like that. It's not as bad as it sounds, honest.

Well, putting aside the fact that you are a liar and a stalker. I have to ask you why you still have Chains around your neck and tail? You should've been able to take them off by now,
*Mutters a little under his breath.* Huh, oh, yeah. I keep those as a reminder of what it's like to fail. I want to remember not to be careless anymore, not to get caught, and how bad of a choice it was to become a thief. I also want to remember how irreversible simple choices can be and that I need to think of the future before making a life changing choice.

That was so touching Kaylo.
Uh, yeah. Thanks... I guess

So last question Kaylo, which part of the ocean did you grow up in, and which part of the ocean is your favorite?
I grew up in the North Pacific Ocean, near the coast of Japan. My favorite part of the ocean isn't really in any ocean. It's in the Mediterranean Sea. Why? you may ask. Because, for few the first few thousand years of civilization, those waters were frequented by many traders, all carrying piles and piles of gold and precious materials. Also, many ruins of once prosperous, and rich, cities are now underwater, like Atlantis for example. Most of those shipwrecks and ruins have been picked over. But most of the pickings haven't left the Mediterranean Sea and are now "safely" tucked away in the homes of dukes, lords and kings. That is until I get my hands on it. Heh heh heh...

Why? wrote:Why do I want this boy?
Well, to be truthful, I'm an Animaphile. which means I fall in love (literally) with fictional characters. And sparks flew when I saw this baby. I needed him. I needed him so bad. I'm that person that would scream "TAKE ME WITH YOU" when he flirted with me. With every word I typed for this character, I fell in love with him more. I never went to this extent with a form before. But I didn't care. I would put less effort in a form for JBD. Also he looks just like a character that I love. His name is Leo Valdez. And seeing the small similarities made me drool all over my keyboard. I could own this character. I just needed to work endless hours on his form. And hours I did work. It was 2:00 when I started. And now it is 8:00. and I am not close to done with this form. I love this baby so much. And I would die of happiness if you choose me.

What will I do with him if I won him?
Well writing about him was so fun, more fun than when I've written any other story. So I will definitely put him in a bunch of mermaid role plays. I might make a story about him if I can make up an actual plot. I might even do an interactive novel. Yeah. That sounds fun. I would put him in my honorary characters forum and do what I did with genies and all other mythical species I've worked with. Smooth out every bump in their species info that doesn't make sense until I have almost created a whole new species. I will probably also draw him almost daily in my sketch book.

Why did I choose the name Kaylo?
Well, Kaylo actually derived from the name Cleo. I had always thought that the name Cleo was a perfect mermaid name. Also I think that was the name of a character in a mermaid show, H20. Despite being totally uninterested in that show nowadays, that name was the first thing that came to mind. But since this character is a guy, I couldn't give him a feminine name. So I decided on the name Kaylo, which sounded like a masculine version of the name.

Why did I choose that personality for him?
I chose that personality because of the expression on his face. At first glance he looks mischievous. He also looks like he's about ready to flirt with you, if he hasn't already. The sharp teeth gave me an impression that he has a darker more deviant side to him, and the chains gave me the impression of him being a criminal. Another thing was his color scheme. The dark blues looked immediately out of place in a daytime setting. He would probably stand out like a sore thumb. No, that color scheme would look perfect in a nighttime setting. So that's when it came together, he would be a perfect thief.

Why should you choose me?
I don't know about the other contestants, but for the last few days, my life has revolved around this character. Every once of free time has been dedicated to this form in some way. Most of my time has been spent on drawing him, as you can see, or searching for something, anything, that I can add to my form. By now I'm all out of ideas for the writing section of my form. I feel that if I add anything else it would be considered copying from someone else's form (like describing the species). So when it comes to adding to my form, all I can add are more art pieces. and that's what I've been doing for the past few days; Staying up late at nights so I could finish a drawing of him. I believe that I have spent more time into this form and character than anyone else here (I may be wrong though). Also if I win him, I am planning on making an interactive novel about him and putting him in role plays. I will put him in my siggy and avatar, his face is already my Nook profile picture. Like I have said before I don't know about other people, but if you do pick me, he will not be hidden in a corner and forgotten.
