I love the first option the most, I think it adds a nice subtle-ness to his design, without taking away from his lovely orange patches.
The revamp looks really great in general, a lovely simple design. I think a bit of contrast would look really good though, if you added a darker shade of brown to the top of his head, ears, shoulders and back maybe <3 even brighter white dots or underbelly could look nice!
Either way he's adorable ;o
