"What's a seed-fit?" you ask, glancing from her to the mouse and back.

"You know death-berries?" Knotpaw says, and points at the mouse with her paw. "Sometimes mice will find the seeds on the ground and eat them on accident, without knowing what they are. After that, they have a fit, and then die."

"Just the seed?" you say, surprised.

"That's all it takes." Knotpaw looks at you seriously. "Remember that it's not the berry that kills you. It's the seed. That's the poisonous part of it. So it's best to make sure that whatever seeds you ate are the right ones."

"Oh." You look down at the mouse again. "That's...kinda sad. It didn't know, did it?"

"No, I guess not." Knotpaw steps away and begins digging. "We better bury it so it doesn't frighten off the other mice."

You help her a little, getting the dirt out of her way, and then roll the mouse into the hole, since both of you are afraid to pick it up. After burying it, you chat a little.

"So what, exactly, have you been up to?" she says, stretching out. "I haven't seen you very much at camp. Are you still doing weird stuff?"

You make a face at her. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Well, Thriftwhisker seems terrified of you now," she says. "And you won't stop visiting the northern border. Plus, you've been oddly stingy with your kills."

"Well, that's..." You shuffle awkwardly. "That's that."

"That's that?" She narrows her eyes a little, puzzled.

"Yeah."

She looks suspicious, but doesn't get a chance to say anything because someone's lumbering towards you. Your immediate guess is correct - it's Cinderpaw, looking frustrated and soggy. Knotpaw shrinks a little automatically.

But Cinderpaw notices you first. She narrows her eyes, saying, "What are you doing here?"
