Toothless rushed into his apartment and scurried into his bedroom, closing the door behind him. He put his back against the door and leaned against it for awhile, releasing a heavy sigh before pushing off the door and beginning to pace his bedroom, fretting about how this would all play out or go down. Amanda seemed like a really nice girl, she didn't seem like the kind of girl who'd make fun of him for his costume, but still. He was afraid that she'd make fun of him or at the very least laugh at him. Rubbing the back of his neck with his hand again, he sighed heavily, giving in.
I can't believe that I'm actually about to do this, he thought to himself in slight horror and complete and utter disbelief. "Why on earth did I agree to do this again?"
Oh, right. It was Amanda Lynn who was the reason for why he was doing this. All the reason he needed to convince himself to do it really.
He went over to his closet and got out the costume that he had had for forever, slipped it on, took a deep breath and looked in the mirror. It wasn't like he didn't know what he looked like in it, but he wanted to see if he could pull it off and still look…attractive/handsome while wearing it. He frowned slightly as he gazed at his reflection in the mirror; he wasn't sure he could or would look handsome in any girls’ eyes while wearing his costume wings.
For the first time in a several years, his mind was flooded with the haunting voices of beans that had taunted, made fun of, bullied, criticized, and otherwise been mean to him because of his wings. They echoed around in his mind as he stared at his reflection in the mirror.
You’re such a weirdo.
Dude, you’ll never get any girls if you keep running around in that outfit Toothless.
Is this a joke? You think I’d want to take a picture for Prom with a guy as my date who’ll be wearing his costume wings over his tux?
The last one had always been a killing blow to his heart, was the one that haunted him more than the others. It was during high school and he had managed to summon up the bravery to ask the girl he had a crush on if she’d go to Prom with him, to his horror, she not only rejected him, but she had also rejected him in what was quite honestly the meanest way possible. Like it wasn't a big enough shot to his heart that she had rejected him, she had to go and tear him down as well.
He closed his eyes for a heartbeat and then opened them up, looking at the mirror with new confidence.
Amanda Lynn’s not like her, she’s not like any of them, she actually wants to see me in my costume, he told himself, trying to build his confidence back up. Still, the fear of rejection still loomed over his heart and he couldn't help but pray that she wouldn't make fun of him.

Heaving a sigh, he walked out of his bedroom, then his apartment, and into Amanda Lynn's apartment. He had a sick feeling in his stomach, he felt so nervous, terrified of having this part of him be rejected...again. This part of himself that he enjoyed being the most, but was most often made fun of. His nerdy side.
"Alright, I'm back," he announced as he reached her doorway. Heaving a huge sigh, he bit his lip, closed his eyes, and walked into her apartment. Stopping, he waited to hear her reaction.
A giggle was the first thing that he heard, but he didn't dare open his eyes to look over at her see what her face was saying about what she thought of his appearance.
"Oh wow! You look absolutely amazing Toothless!" He heard her exclaim; causing his eyes to snap open and look over at her.
"Really, you think so?"
"Yeah, it's really uncanny how much you look just like the character from the movie, it’s really amazing," her statement made him smile.
"Thank you," he told her, not sure what else to say.
He felt a feather light kiss to his cheek before hearing her say, "No, thank you for showing me, I really appreciate it." He saw her flash him a smile and he felt his heart skip a couple beats and his breath stolen away. Yup. It was official. He was in love…head over heels in love.
"You want to watch a movie with me? Everything is unpacked and put away now, thanks to all your help," Toothless’ mind was still dazed and trying to process the fact that she had kissed him that all he could do was offer a zombie-like nod.
"I'd love to," he told her once his senses returned, smiling over at her.

Chapter Two

Image
Several weeks later and Amanda Lynn was sitting comfortably in her living room watching one of her favorite movies, a romantic comedy called When In Rome, when there was a knock at her door. She couldn't help but hope that it was Toothless at the door, she had been enjoying his friendship for these past several weeks, having spent a plethora of time with him doing anything from just hanging out and watching movies together to just talking to each other or playing board games. Today, she and Toothless were going to be watching the movie Tangled together and then if they had enough time left, they’d be playing some board games as well.
Hitting pause, she walked over to the door, went up on her tip-toes and looked through the peep hole. Much to her great disappointment, the face she saw through it was not that of Toothless, but of her landlord, Jenner.
With a sigh, she steeled herself for whatever it was that her landlord was going to throw her way, and then opened the door with the friendliest and welcoming smile she could muster.
"Hello Jenner, what can I do for you today?"
She watched as Jenner looked around her apartment briefly, looking very business-like and completely disinterested in being all that friendly.
"Yes, hello Amanda," she replied, sounding very bored and yet also very rushed, "Listen, I just came over to tell you that one of your neighbors, Ms. Zyanya Chry Caldecott, recently had a terrible break-in at her apartment and the thieves not only stole some valuable things from her, but they also vandalized it, in fact they torched the place.”
“Oh my, that sounds horri-”
“Since she is paid up for the next couple of months, I'm having her stay with you since your apartment comes with an extra bedroom and isn't occupied,” Jenner railroaded, “You're fine with this of course, aren't you?"
Amanda Lynn was surprised by the news to say the least, especially since she hadn't heard anything about it. She honestly had no idea who this girl was that Jenner wanted, or rather, expected her to room in her apartment, she didn't really like the idea of allowing someone she didn't know to stay in her apartment. She had half a mind to tell Jenner that no, she was absolutely not fine with this decision and that Jenner would just have to room this Zyanya Chry what’s-her-name bean with someone else, but Amanda knew that it was best to stay on the good side of her landlord, so she would just have to swallow a bitter pill and deal with it.
“Yeah, I’m fine with it,” she replied, nodding her head. I just hope this Zyanya girl won't be a problem or hard to live with, she silently prayed.
"Great! I'll bring her in right now," Jenner smiled in delight, rushing into the hall, where Amanda Lynn could hear her calling the other bean's name.

Wait, what? Now!? Amanda Lynn thought, shocked. She hadn’t expected to have to room her so quickly. She had thought that Jenner would have at the very least allowed her to prepare for her new roommate.
A few minutes later and Jenner returned with a very fluffy looking gray and white female bean with black tiger stripes and stunningly bright pale yellow eyes.
"Ms. Amanda Lynn Sonata, I would like to you to meet your new roommate, Ms. Zyanya Chry Caldecott," Jenner stated, stepping back.
The other bean rolled her eyes, "Just call me Chry, I don't really go by Zyanya very often,"
Amanda Lynn smiled and shook her hand, "Nice to meet you Chry, you can call me Amanda Lynn or Amanda for short," she offered, smiling at her.
"Great! Now that you two have met, I'll be on my way now, good bye!" And with that, Jenner promptly left, closing the door behind her, leaving the two of them alone.
There were several beats of awkward silence and after awhile, Amanda Lynn decided to end the silence and attempt to converse with her new roommate and make small talk.
"So...I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you, that must have been horrible to come back to,"
"Yeah, it was, I couldn't believe all the damage," Chry shook her head, Amanda Lynn felt terrible for her, "It's a good thing that all of my most treasured items weren't in the apartment at the time, I had just finished putting most of them in a storage unit."
"Well that's really fortunate, I'm glad that they didn't get harmed, but what did the thieves steal from your apartment then anyway?"
"Nothing that I really miss or can’t replace," she replied, shrugging, walking into the living room, "Oooh, are you watching When in Rome? I love that movie!"
"Yeah, I am, I can re-start if you'd like," Amanda Lynn offered, smiling at Chry. "But first you'd better put your things in your room, its right over there," she gestured to the room opposite her bedroom.
"Thanks," Chry said, quickly going into the spare bedroom and depositing her things on the floor near the bed, then just as quick rushed back to the living room and leaped onto the couch in excitement.
“You’re welcome,” Amanda Lynn replied, grabbing a couple bags of popcorn out of the box she had in one of her kitchen cabinets, “Just curious, where were you when the break in happened?”
“I was on a date with my boyfriend, Pyro,” Chry told her as she hit the Menu button on the remote control, “He was escorting me back to my apartment when we saw that the door was left open and all we could see was charred remains of what was left of my apartment.”
“Oh wow, that sounds like a dreadful way for a date night to end,” Amanda Lynn felt really bad for Chry, she couldn’t imagine how horrible and terrifying that must have been.
“Yeah, it was, but at least I didn’t lose anything that I didn’t mind losing. I was already planning on moving in with my boyfriend, we’ve been thinking about buying a house together, so I was leaving only the bare necessities in my apartment at the time,” Chry replied, “Anyway, enough about that, let’s start the movie!”

"Hold on and let me pop some popcorn first, okay?” Amanda Lynn laughed, finding it amusing that her new roommate was so eager to start the movie, “Oh, just so you know, I'm expecting someone else over. So if there's a knock on the door, feel free to go over and answer it," Amanda Lynn told her before heading over to the kitchen to get the popcorn started.
"Alright," Chry agreed, "So...who're you expecting over?"
"Um…” Amanda Lynn hesitated, “Do you know Toothless? He lives in the apartment next door to me, we're good friends and I like to invite him over for movie nights," Amanda Lynn shouted from the kitchen, smiling to herself. She really enjoyed his companionship, he was a real sweetheart. She hated to admit it, even to herself, but she had formed a bit of a crush on him. Okay, more than a bit. It was a full-fledged crush. She was just too afraid to ask or approach the subject of his relationship status.
"Yeah, I know him," Chry shouted over to Amanda Lynn. "He's a really great guy, quite the gentleman too, despite his socially awkward tendencies. His are a dying breed, yet the ones that every girl dreams of finding someday. Taking all that into account, it never ceases to amaze me that he's still single."
In that instant, the world around Amanda Lynn seemed to just stop and she felt her heart attempt to leap out of her chest. Quickly, she put her hand over her chest as if to keep it from doing so, and then she promptly removed it to go back to emptying one of the bags of popcorn into a bowl, not wanting Chry to see her reaction.
He's single? She thought, feeling both amazed and very relieved, yet also disbelieving in what Chry had said. After all, things could have changed since the last time Chry might have talked to him.
"Yeah, he's a great guy, he helped me to unpack my things when I first moved here several weeks ago," she told Chry, trying to sound casual as she came over to the couch, intentionally avoiding saying anything about Toothless' relationship status, "Here's your popcorn."
"Thank you," Chry grabbed the bowl that Amanda Lynn offered her and immediately began eating from it. "That sounds just like Toothless," she spoke after swallowing some popcorn.
They laughed for awhile, and then Amanda Lynn sat down on the couch, grabbing the remote and pushing play.
When the movie was over, she ejected the disc and put it back in the DVD case, putting it back in its place before closing up the tray and going back to the couch. Amanda then switched from DVD mode to TV mode, scrolling through the channels looking for something good to watch. She wanted to watch one of her favorite TV shows, but she was afraid that her new roommate wouldn’t be interested or would judge her because of what she liked to watch. Eventually, she decided to go with a show that was actually requested by Chry, something called Supernatural, but they were soon interrupted when a knock came at the door. Amanda Lynn quickly got up and raced over to the door, briefly look through the peephole before straightening her clothes and then opening the door for the bean standing on the other side of it.

"Toothless, you're just in time," she said, smiling at him and giving him a friendly hug. "We're being joined by my new roommate, Chry, tonight. I don't know if you two have met, but I'll introduce you to her."
She led him to the living room where she then introduced him to Chry, "Toothless, this is Zyanya Chry Caldecott, though she prefers to be called Chry; Chry, this is Toothless."
She watched as they shook hands, she felt oddly nervous about their meeting and yet, underneath that feeling of nervousness there was a sliver of another feeling…perhaps it was jealousy. I really shouldn’t feel jealous, he’s not my boyfriend or anything, he’s just my friend, she told herself.
But you want him to be your boyfriend, her inner voice told her.
"I think we've met a couple of times before, but it's nice to meet you officially," Chry said, smiling at him.
Toothless smiled back, "Same to you as well," he told her, then turned his attention to Amanda Lynn and smiled. "So what are we watching tonight then?"
"Tangled," Amanda Lynn informed him, blushing a bit. "I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all," he told her, smiling as he took a seat on the large couch. "I love Disney movies; they're up there with DreamWorks movies."
"Great, let me get the other two bowls of popcorn and the soda and I'll start the movie," Amanda Lynn said, smiling as she went to the kitchen to fetch said items, leaving Chry and Toothless alone in the living room.

Chry remained seated in the sofa, though she had now changed her sitting position to something a little more comfortable. She had been watching Amanda Lynn the whole time from the time that she had gone over to the door to when she introduced Toothless to her. A smile curled on her lips, it was a smile that was not unlike that worn by the Grinch in the cartoon version of the movie. Chry had noticed several tell-tale somethings that had now led her to believe that Amanda Lynn liked Toothless a heck of a lot more than just a friend. She had been watching the two of them intently, like a tiger watches its prey. What she had observed of the two of them had led her to one conclusion.
Amanda Lynn is so totally into Toothless and he’s so into her, Chry thought to herself, feeling rather smug about her deduction of the two beans’ actions towards and around one another so far. She'd wait awhile to find out if her suspicions were true, but she'd definitely be speaking to Amanda about it later on. She didn't want to pry, okay, maybe she did, but she didn’t want to be blatant about it.
Since she was going to be Amanda's new roommate, she felt as if she was sort of entitled to know if Amanda Lynn was planning on either bringing Toothless over to spend the night with her or if Amanda Lynn would be spending time over at Toothless' or something like that. She'd wait and ask Amanda Lynn questions later, probably when Toothless was gone and it was just her and Amanda Lynn. Then again, maybe she'd wait awhile longer to bring it up.
For now though, she’d watch them a little more and see if her suspicions were correct. There was definitely some sort of chemistry going on between Amanda Lynn and Toothless, she was certain of it.

Amanda Lynn came back with two bowls of popcorn in hand, one of which she placed on the table and the other she handed to Toothless, giving him a brief smile.
"Thank you," he told her.
"You're welcome, and I'll be right back with the sodas," she said, promptly turning back around and going back to the kitchen.
She came back with three sodas; she handed a can of Sprite to Chry, a can of Root Beer to Toothless, and then placed a can of Root Beer for herself on the table.
"I didn't know what you'd like Chry, but I only had two Root Beers and two Sprites cooling in the fridge, if you'd like a warm Root Beer, I'll get that for you,"
"It's alright, I love Sprite, so it's fine; let’s start the movie,"
"Okay," Amanda Lynn went over and grabbed the remote, sitting down next to Toothless on the couch. She pushed the play button, grabbed her soda, and pulled the tab to open the soda. Taking a swig out of it, she then put it down on the table, grabbed the remote and pushed play again. The movie had started.
She lay back on the couch and Toothless moved his right arm to rest it atop the back of the couch while Amanda leaned back and relaxed into the couch.

"I had a great time as always Amanda, thanks for inviting me over,"
"You're welcome, it was my pleasure, as always," Amanda Lynn replied, giving Toothless a one armed hug. "I'll see you tomorrow, bye!"
Once the door was shut and enough time had elapsed, Chry reclined on the couch with a Cheshire cat grin on her face.
"So..." she began, drawing it out as Amanda Lynn walked away from the door, "You and Toothless..."
"What about us?" Amanda Lynn asked, looking at Chry questioningly, not certain where she was going with this.
"You two are going out, right?"
"No, of course not, we're just...friends."
"Oh come on, you two totally like each other,"
"Yeah. As friends,"
"Oh you want to be more than friends, I can tell," Chry flashed a huge grin at Amanda.
"What, exactly, makes you say that?"
"Well, for one, when he came to the door, you tidied yourself up before opening the door."
"Well, yeah. I wanted to make sure that I looked presentable and that none of my clothes were revealing anything,"
"Come on, girls don't care if they're presentable or not if it's just a friend that they're disinterested in dating."
"Says who?"
"Says lots of people, it's a well known fact."
"Well, I don't have a crush on him, okay? We're just friends," Amanda Lynn was beginning to sound frustrated, Chry knew that she was hitting a chord.
"I never said anything about a crush," Chry pointed out, giggling before her mouth tilted into a smug half-smile.
"Oh, for goodness sake Chry! Just…stop. We're just friends! That’s it, that’s all!" Amanda shouted, frustrated with her new roommate. Chry was walking on really thin ice for someone who had just moved in today. "Why do you care anyway?"
Chry shrugged, "Does there have to be a reason?" she asked, a smirk playing on the corners of her mouth.
Amanda rolled her eyes and heaved an exasperated sigh, thoroughly irritated with Chry, “Yes, actually there does have to be a reason, why are you so bent on prying into my personal life, most specifically my love life?”
“Well, if you must know,” Chry began, a smirk playing on her face again, “As your new roommate, I believe I’m entitled to know whether or not you’ll be bringing anyone over to spend the night or you’ll be going over to spend the night with others,”
Amanda Lynn rolled her eyes again, “Chry, I have no love life, so you’ve nothing to worry about, okay? As for you though, I believe that I’m entitled to knowing if you’ll be bringing anyone over or spending the night with others as well, aren’t I?”
“Touché,” Chry said, scoffing, “Yeah, I might spend some time with my boyfriend Pyro, but don’t worry, I won’t be gone days at a time or something.”
Amanda Lynn nodded, not wanting to say anything, she was actually afraid of speaking right now. Chry was managing to irritate her more than she had ever been irritated before and had done what no other bean had ever managed to do— make her blow her top.
“I’m going to my room, we’re done discussing this,” she told Chry, going off to her room and closing the door behind her.
Chry continued to lounge on the sofa, wearing a huge smile again. You’re done discussing it, but I’m not, she thought, laughing softly. She wasn't going to give up on this; she'd continue this at a later date. It was probably wise for her to lay off of Amanda Lynn and the subject of Amanda’s relationship with Toothless for awhile though anyway; she was treading on very thin ice right now as a new-comer.
Their talk however, had revealed something to Chry though. No one got that defensive over their feelings for someone unless they really did feel something more than what they thought they should be feeling or what they wanted to be feeling. Oh yeah, Amanda Lynn is definitely in love with Toothless. Chry smiled to herself in satisfaction, suddenly having this urge to help push the two of them together.
When she thought of that, she couldn’t help but be terrified by what having a roommate was doing to her. Chry had never done anything like this before, but for some reason, it just seemed like it would be just too much fun to resist messing with her new roommate and the guy next door.
