Could someone explain this verse to me?

(Psalms 137:8-9) Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us. He who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

This will help: http://www.letusreason.org/Biblexp7.htm

If you read verse 8, you can tell that it was completely taken from context. God is not telling the people to kill babies, He is showing no mercy towards Babylon.

Greetings to you all. I have a new friend, acquaintance really. Her username is kinderspirit and she has currently gone through the tragic event of losing a parent, her father in particular. If you would please keep her in your prayers and maybe shoot her a pm wishing her well i would be grateful and im sure she would, too.

Actually, it's more like 'you can choose to not say offensive things, but words are words because we give them meaning and if you use offensive ones, or use them to create an offensive idea, that's on you, bud, not on the victim'.

We are called to love ALL our neighbors.

Our heterosexual neighbors. Our homosexual neighbors. Our trans neighbors. Our asexual neighbors. Our muslim neighbors. Our agnostic neighbors. Our hindu neighbors. Our jewish neighbors. Our sikh neighbors. Our brown neighbors. Our black neighbors. Our poor neighbors. Our rich neighbors. Our neighbors on welfare. Our neighbors who buy flashy expensive things. Our deaf neighbors. Our blind neighbors. Our depressed neighbors. Our schizophrenic neighbors. Our autistic neighbors. Our disabled neighbors whose disability is obvious. Our disabled neighbors whose disability isn't obvious. And so on. And so on.

ALL OUR NEIGHBORS.

There are NO exceptions.

You can go ahead and say you "don't support the lifestyle", but what exactly is that lifestyle? Being what God made them?

Do you show the same intolerance to those who lie, those who cheat, those who have divorced and remarried? Do you tell them that you also "don't support" their lifestyle? Do you lobby to have divorce written out of the laws because it is not biblically sanctioned?

Think about that. And also think about what "not supporting that lifestyle" means. It means, literally, you do not support their right to live.

Stop and think about that doubly hard if you proclaim yourself "pro-life".

We are guided by one overriding, overarching commandment, and that is love.

Oh, and P.S. ...make sure you only hand out tracts to where you're trying to reach the unchurched, not those who are churched differently. Many of my supposed brothers and sisters in Christ would be happy to pretend congregations like mine and my sister's do not exist simply because we are in eastern Orthodoxy. The Holy Mother Church does not support evangelism to American Protestant churches, yet somehow, many American Protestants think that a tradition going back to the very foundations of Christendom aren't good enough, and merrily try to convert people to the "true" way with no regard to the fact that, if anything, Orthodoxy has a better claim on the title of Christian than they do.

And just leave it off altogether if you're going to make snide comments about burning sacred icons for idolatry. Trust me on this one.

American Protestant churches of all stripes are far to concerned about the splinters in the eyes of others while not noticing the log in their own eye.

(If you find yourself offended... well, I would recommend your own advice. Physician, heal thyself.)

That's all I think needs to be said on the topic of homosexuality and Christendom. We can now move merrily along to the next topic.

If everyone would like to join me for evening prayers...

Friday, August 15th
Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos

Image

As recorded in Church history, this is the day Mary,
Mother of Jesus and holy Theotokos, passed into
death with serene grace, once again rejoining her son.

Image

In birth, you preserved your virginity;
in death, you did not abandon the world,
O Theotokos. As mother of life,
you departed to the source of life,
delivering our souls from death by your intercessions.

Image

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Glory to thee, our God, glory to thee.

O heavenly King, O Comforter, the Spirit of truth, who art in all places and fillest all things; Treasury of good things and Giver of life: Come and dwell in us and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O gracious Lord.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

All-holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Lord, cleanse us from our sins.
Master, pardon our iniquities.
Holy God, visit and heal our infirmities for thy Name's sake.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name; thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Through the prayers of our holy Fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Image

Now that the day has come to a close, I thank thee, O Lord,
and I ask that the evening with the night may be sinless;
grant this to me, O Saviour, and save me.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Now that the day hath passed, I glorify thee, O Master,
and I ask that the evening, with the night may be without offence;
grant this to me, O Saviour, and save me.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Now that the day hath run its course, I praise thee, O Holy One,
and I ask that the evening with the night may be undisturbed;
grant this to me, O Saviour, and save me.

Lord, have mercy.

Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my soul and my body.
Do thou thyself bless me, have mercy upon me,
and grant me life eternal. Amen.

      If anyone here is offended by something that is said,
      please, walk away before it becomes an argument. This thread should be about
      happiness, not negativity. Arguments have happened many times here, and
      mods have had to clean everything up several times. It's getting a bit ridiculous.
      If this keeps up, the thread will be locked before we know it.

      Now, moving on;
      I am in the mood for some good uplifting music.
      Anyone have any recommendations? c:

This rendition of the Kyrie Eleison chant is one I find especially restorative. c:
