Can goldfish be housed with any other fish?

Not really because they are cold water fish and most other fish are tropical or too agressive
Some people keep white cloud mountain minows with them though, but when the goldies get bigger dont be surprised if they get eaten

Sorry if I'm interrupting a discussion, but mind if I asked a question?

How many gallons is your tank? : 12 gallons
How many fish and what types are they? : 2 goldfish, one is a black moore and the other a comet/common? i can't really tell them apart
How long has it been running? : it's been about a month I think
Did you cycle it? : I didn't, as I did not know about it when I bought the tank, and the fish were in a really small bowl which they probably would have died in had I not moved them out asap
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : haven't been able to find a test kit so I don't know

What is the issue or question? : My bigger fish, the orange one, keeps chasing the small black one I have around the tank. I don't know if it's because the tank is too small, or if he's just aggressive, maybe? I don't really know what I could do besides get a larger tank, and that's just not possible considering budget+space. Maybe I should get a smaller fish in place of the orange one?

It's my first time owning fish, and they were a gift from a friend who knew I loved them, so I really don't want them to die.

I kept zebra danios with some goldfish. Most species of the minnow and carp family(goldfish, sharkminnows, danios, etc.) Are from a similar environment so they do fairly well together

Though my goldfish on several occasions tried to kill them.

edit from computer: goldfish are evil little suckers, mine hated blanched veggies(the stuff I read that they would eat it) but would eat frozen shrimp cubes and other meaty foods with no regrets and no issues....

They aren't herbivores, goldfish eat anything that fits in their mouths
If you look at goldfish food ingredients the main ingredient is shrimp
What veggies did you try?
Generally they eat peas and spinach as well as aquatic plants and I have also tried zucchini
I have also heard they like lettuce, lemon, rockmelon (cantaloupe), banana (can get messy)... That's all I can remember at the moment...

I heard blanched carrot and zucchini slices, but all they did was push it around and played tug of war with it(the tiny pleco I happened to be raising in the tank at that time however, loved the blanched veggies, I did not worry about him and the goldfish because the goldies were about two-three inches long, and he was half an inch long, he later was killed when I moved him into a tank with a rubberlip pleco).

I would LOVE to own goldfish and koi but I have neither the space or the money to set up a pond or big tank. I have a 29 gallon hex, but other than the obvious size issue, I got a bichir growing in it XD.

You shouldn't keep commons with fancies. Fancy goldfish (moors especially) are slow swimmers, while comets are very fast. The moor will not only be harassed by it, but won't get enough food. Also, you will need at least 50 gallons for the comet alone once it's full sized. Minimum for the Moor is 20.

I'd suggest rehoming the comet and then getting a 20 gallon for Moor. How big are the two of them now? If they get too big for the tank both of them will start to be stunted.

    Oh man guys, thanks for all the help! I didn't expect that! ;//v//;

I am hoping to snag a 30-gallon (keyword "hoping" ... -stalks craigslist-) But once I get one, I was wondering what sort of extra accessories I'd need? Not in terms of plants and gravel and stuff but like lights, heating (?), bubbles, filters, etc? Any idea of what would work well for a 30-gallon? I'd love links if there are any specific products you'd recommend! My budgets pretty small but I'm gonna do my best to stretch it, I really want to get all the ideal stuff to set this aquarium up so the fish have the best chance of living. uwu<3
I'm traveling til Friday w/ no access to my tablet!

Mostly quitting CS; I'll check messages on occasion but DA or Skype is probably a better place to contact me.

Depends exactly what type of fish you want c:
If you're going to get guppies, platies, and/or tetras you'll want to buy a heater. Make sure to get the wattage for your tank ^^ A light is almost mandatory, and it makes tanks (especially planted ones) look much nicer. I'd suggest a daylight bulb, but it depends on the atmosphere you're going to. Bubblers are only necessary for fish that need a lot of oxygen like goldfish, but they can add a nice effect (and extra oxygen if you have a very full tank). They aren't a necessity though. Also, I'd suggest Aquasafe or Stress Coat for water conditioner. It's what I use and it's always been very reliable ^u^

Also, another big thing before you go shopping: theme. What type of tank are you going for? Natural or a specific theme? For a natural tank you'll probably want driftwood, real plants, and some big rocks. But if you theme it you'd want to know what theme since you'll need to pick ornaments (and even fish colours) to match.

For example, I kind of want to do a Halloween tank with black + orange gravel, skull/cemetary ornaments, some glass catfish, orange platies, and maybe some skirt tetras. I'd also probably only buy red plants.

(I know you don't even have a tank yet but I swear theme planning is the best part X3)

i like shubunkins, but as i have said before, i have a 30 gallon, but at the SAME time, i keep reading that shubunkins get smaller than comets and commons, just bigger than fancies. could i set up a regular 30 gal and keep a single shubunkin and it not get too big and/or be stunted? from what i looked up i saw that:

commons and comets reach 8-9 inches in body length, with commons reaching 12 inches total and comets reaching 16-18 inches total

shubunkins, jikins, and wakins get to be 8-10 inches total including fins

the other fancies only get 6-8 inches total normally.

i am wanting to make sure of this before i decide to make my move later this year

(jikins and wakins are fantailed goldfish that are built like commons and comets, lacking the arched back of most fancies and thus have less health issues)

Okay everyone, now I have a question since I want to look into a permanent Halloween tank.

There's an either 35 or 55 (have to measure) tank in my basement I can set up. I already kind of know what I want, but I'm looking for some ideas too c:

> Lots of large rock formations and caves
> Fewer plants, preferably red (just not green tbh) (low light tank; need ideas)
> Black and White/Orange gravel (Sand maybe?)
> Some schooling fish + Maybe one or two centrepiece fish? (suggestions for centrepiece?)
> Ghost Catfish
> Black Neons
> Orange Wag Platies or maybe a few orange sailfins
> School of either albino cories or black khuli loaches (maybe both)

I know the size of my tank will matter; I'll measure it today. Also, looking for fish that will take advantage of the rocky structures and skull ornaments I'll have in there. And fish that won't mind some dim (possibly with some glow in the dark accents) lighting.
