What's wrong with Rarity? We want to explain

Hallo admins...
3 month going pets only down in rarity... not any go up? And we all want to know...why it happens?

Please help me gain insight because I'm really quite frustrated (because I do a lot of C$ trading and now I feel cheated)

2012 Summer Event pet;

Is now uncommon (was rare)

2013 Summer Event pet;

Was rare, is still rare.

These were roughly the same difficulty to obtain.

I. Do. Not. Understand.

There must be something more! I really dont think that this make only account which are again acctive...It would have to be hundreds accounts...
just look on cats from halloween 2013 ... they went down on Uncommon! Why there wasnt uncommon from start when they was new and all account was active? Why they went down after almost one year? ... THIS IS WEIRD!!!

well 3 times in a row all decreases and nothing going up. Sorry but old accounts becoming active is bull. I'm done buying c$ for anything other than store pets and list pets because I've wasted to much money buying rares only to have them become uncommon.

It puzzles me too, this has literally never happened before. 3 updates in a row and not a single pet went up in rarity. I just don't get it.

It doens't bother me that pets are going down in rarity, I just don't get how so many pets are going down and literally nothing goes up.

The 2013 Halloween cats were a puzzle to begin with, they weren't anything special and bam, rare.
But of course, as soon as I'm down to one of them to complete my hoard, bam, uncommon. CS, pls. Explain yourself.

I agree with Lufik, it's weird. It's difficult to understand for me how the pets that were VRs for very long suddenly turn rare and the new VRs stay very rare. In my opinion reactivating old accounts alone couldn't influence the rarity changes that much, there must be something more.

Yes, I am curious about this too. I've never seen anything like it happen before. We've had drops due to rereleases and the one big rarity update, which was publicly announced, but never several months of unexplained drops.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps a combination of many older users giving away all their pets & becoming inactive, plus a drastic decline in the number of new users joining? Is the site losing popularity? It has been suggested that the change was caused by droves of inactive users returning for the summer event but that would not explain such a long streak of downward changes.

Yes I understand this is a game and rarities shouldn't matter so much but when you have spent as much real money buying c$ to get the pets you have it becomes more than a simple game of trading. I'm sure the mods can look into what I have spent which is crazy amounts to see why I feel we all deserve an answer. New pets don't bother me but the older pets should only be getting rarer as more people sign up.

Loads of my rates are now uncommon and I'm really annoyed about it!
Some being my absolute favourite pets too
I don't think it should happen, its not fair.

I really don't see why it matters or what's so bad about it, if anything it will help you get fair, honest trades, maybe even some pets for underpay. It's perfectly fair for everyone. If rarity changes didn't happen, then no one would actually know how much pets are really worth, and you'd could end up over paying for a very common pet. I honestly don't see why the mod's have to explain this too us, (or Nick, since he's the one that "presses the button"). Really, in my eyes, the rarity change is a good thing, helps trading and is good for the economy.

EDIT: Bear in mind this is just my opinion.

One of the many possible reasons (or theories) the rarities could have dropped is that a lot of pet rarities might have been forgotten about, so weren't updated. So the staff have slowly been going through the pets? Or;

well, as the users of this site, don't we at least deserve an explanation of why? I think a lot of people's frustration stems from the fact that no one can think of a plausible explanation for the rarity changes, except for "a lot of old users rejoined"... but it seems a little odd that that could have had this big of an impact.

so I think a lot of us just want to know why. I'm not hugely upset at the changes, but I want to know why they're happening--I don't think it's right that we just accept it and be all "oh well! it happened! moving on!" especially since it's happened a few times in a row, and CS is a trading website so... rarity is kinda an important issue.

No no, we're don't know how the drops happen. We do know why they happen, rarites should go up and down to make them more accurate, that's why they happen.

As far as we know rarities goes up as more people join and old inactive accounts are deactivated and rarities goes down as the old inactive accounts are reactived again. That's how it's supposed to work.

But the past few updates rarities has only gone down and nothing has gone up. That doesn't make sense because that's not how the system works as far as we know, so now we want to know how the system works.

when I say "why" I don't mean... what the purpose of the rarity changes is, I mean it's obvious that it's to make trading more accurate... I mean what caused it? "old accounts being reactivated" doesn't cut it for me. enough old accounts to make such massive changes? I just find it hard to believe. what exactly could have caused this many people to come back all at the same time in the first place?

I am glad I came by this topic, as I just joined a week or two ago, and had a bunch of pets I had up for trade (including some Uncommons) and upon coming on this morning, they're now commons and I really have nothing of value I can even put up for trade in hopes of wrapping up my 2011 Lion clan. 0.o

I didn't realize they could/did lose rarity as time went on, figured it was a permanent kind of thing... but eep. This adds a new pickle to my sandwich.
