it's well known in polynesian mythology that pele is
not a goddess to be trifled with. stories speak not
of a woman, but a force of nature, whose jealousy
led to the deaths of her sister and pele's lover. like
the volcanoes she commands, pele is as elemental
as fire, and her emotions are not at all dulled, but
simply enhanced to a point where the goddess may
lose control. a feeble thought in her mind is, occa-
sionally, fanned into a burning passion. however,
most of the time, pele is refined. the manners and
grace she often displays might make her seem less
cunning and dangerous than you should presume.

as a kid raised in the diverse area of new york city,
josh is used to people being... well, different, and
it's gotten to the point where he barely even notices
an accent or odd custom. but gods? yeah, gods are
not exactly commonplace, and it's weird being out
of his comfort zone. as someone who uses comedy
to lighten normally serious situations, josh can be
considered annoying by those with low a tolerance
for cheesy puns. it used to be that he wouldn't care

- they're gods. among the other humans josh stays

as the only daughter of a diplomat, savita was, from a very young age, exposed to education of the highest quality available. she picked it up quickly, showing a special affinity for languages and government. when she was five her family moved from her birthplace of kolkata to beijing. it was there, when she was exposed to a culture of enlightenment and meditation, that savita discovered her ability to walk as a spirit. with sufficient concentration, she was able to shed her human body like a change of clothes. as a projection she was invisible to humans. savita was married to the fact that in this position, she would always be an observer - until that one time she accidentally knocked over her family's television. it was then she realized that this wasn't just projection. the more she thought about it, the more it intrigued her, and she began to experiment with her limits [she wasn't physically different, she could only project for a few hours before getting a nosebleed, she still couldn't become visible]. when mecha attacked, savita was on the other side of the globe, but her mother wasn't a government official for nothing; the worldwide impact was immediately obvious. savita and her father left for argentina while her mother remained in her government position; they hoped that in this out-of-the-way, less populated area, the mechas would be longer in coming. however, they underestimated the chaos of the country: maybe the mechas weren't a danger, but the argentinians definitely were.

it's a mark of her patience that lee deals with the butchering of her name dozens of times per day without even raising her voice in annoyance. thus, she tends to be underestimated. that's a mistake. it takes patience to wait out an enemy, to gain their trust, to strike them when they're at their weakest point. she's the daughter of a botanist and demeter. and maybe it's the overall impression you get from her, the cheerful smiles, the warm voice, but it's so easy to forget that she's the foremost poison expert in camp. it's easy to forget that aeliana's mother starved humanity because her daughter went missing. don't think to comprehend what lee's capable of when angered. except she's not a bad person, not really, even once you get past the facade of cheeriness and the cold-blooded killer just underneath. a sense of morality and loyalty keeps her casualties to a minimum.

daniel schulers attended minst academy, just like his mother before him,
and as soon as matt was fourteen years old, he was sent off to minst as
well. it's his first year, sure, but matt's caught on pretty quickly. he's in
the leadership program for a reason: matt has a gift for manipulation of
people less socially competent than him, and he's been using it ruthlessly
for years now. he's not afraid to what others find unthinkable to achieve
his goals. for obvious reasons, his strong suit is politics, and his weakest
academic would probably be the hard sciences. matt's friendly enough: al-
though used to distancing himself from those he considers inferior, here
his classmates are much more intelligent. he's growing closer to a few of
the others in the leadership program, but tends to avoid the thieves; in
his opinion, true power resides not in your ability to commit a crime, but
in the ability to twist the law to further your own ends. he looks down on
those who have to dodge the law. thus, matt shuns the thieves; with the
mindset of a true politician, he tries to change the opinions of the people
closest to him. someday it'll come back to bite him. that day is not today.
