Estrella enjoyed her job as head healer, although she did not fit the common stereotype of medicine wolf. Firstly, she was not old, but instead quite young. She also was not extremely outlandish and crazed, wearing dangling bone charms and muttering strange sounding gibberish under her breath. She did, however, have a great deal of knowledge and know how, a trait all healers must possess. Estrella had learned to heal from listing. For nearly an entire summer, Tablone, the flock, Estrella, and her family resided in a lush meadow, nestled in the heart of the Apennine mountains. During those lazy, summer days, she had often run off to a nearby pine forest, for the sheep were dulled and relaxed by the calm atmosphere, and not very troublesome. She would hide deep in the glade, downwind from a pack of wild dogs - real wild dogs! Just the sound of their unusual and foreign bark excited Estrella; she had only heard stories about the elusive creatures. For hours she would crouch low and listen to the old medicine wolf, Taealoi, speak to her apprentice, Marlion, about the certain plants and herbs used for healing. She learned a great deal from that old wolf.
