Choices:
1. Tell the truth
2. Lie
3. Lie
4. Tell the truth
5. Tell the truth
6. Joke about it
7. Tell the truth
Roll says... 2: Lie.
"Oh, I went out to make dirt, and ended up in an herb patch," you say, casually. "I'm not sure how. I guess I was just tired."
Crowcloud looks at you carefully, like she's trying to dissect whether you're lying or not. You just blink and look right back at her.
Thankfully, Snailpelt calls her away before she can ask more questions. You relax and eat your food, mulling over what you heard and saw last night.
Today, you and Applefoot are assigned onto a border patrol. Otternose and Birchstar are going with you, and after breakfast the four of you head out.
Otternose talks your ear off about her favorite subject: what everyone else is doing. It would bore you to tears, if cats could cry, but instead you're just annoyed as she gabbers on about the most inconsequential things - what Kitestorm was doing, whether or not Hailfang and Littleflower are going to fight over the kits, how Jayface was wandering away from the border again, blah blah blah holy stars do you not care.
Birchstar doesn't help at all. He absorbs it all, wide-eyed and making reactionary noises in the right places, as if he doesn't have better things to do than listen to a chatterbug all day. In fact, the two slow you and Applefoot down because they keep pausing to talk or laugh about whatever.
Finally, Applefoot loses her patience, and doesn't wait for them anymore. You head around to the south border, crossing the river. Applefoot does a little bit of marking here and there, but it's mostly just you two making sure that nothing's crossed over lately.
Birchstar and Otternose never catch up to you. You're certain that they forgot about the patrol entirely. How annoying.
I mean, granted, he's the leader, but he's not a very good one. He's immature, irresponsible, and leaves his poor deputy to do most of the work. From what you've heard, he was only given deputyhood because there was a hint of bias on the part of the previous leader. Whether they were related or in a relationship, you don't know, but regardless the choice was made, and the end result was that the Clan suffered under a cat who was too young and too stupid to make the right choices, until Eveningtail was chosen as deputy after his previous one fled the territory under stress.
Either way, it doesn't matter. There's a competent deputy now. A competent deputy that you saw sneaking out.
What was she outside for? Who was she talking to? Your patrol is supposed to only take care of this side right now, but you want to know what happened, or if you can find any clues as to what she was doing there.
Ask if you two can patrol the other border.
Make an excuse to sneak off and do it yourself.
