Larkstar shook her head no. "Thank you, but the sun is almost gone, and Nightfrost took the apprentices
hunting." Nightfrost and Fallenheart had both been confined to camp after the killings, but as time passed
and no suspicious activity occured, the leader let both toms go. So far nothing bad had happened, but
whenever she thought about Nightfrost, her tail quivered. She smiled at CloudDapple. "But perhaps tomorrow
you could lead a patrol out to restock the pile?"

Volepaw smiled at Crookedpaw when she brought the rabbit back. But when she whispered in his ear, his muzzle
turned in a frown. He looked over at her, whispering back to nobody else could hear. "Don't leave! I know it seems
bad now, but we're only apprentices. It takes time to make friends and start families. Besides, you have me, don't
you?" Volepaw had known Crookedpaw for a while, since he wasn't much older than her and they trained together.
He could tell her past had made her bitter and malicious, but he also knew that time and friendship could make her
better. If she left, she would get worse. Living alone and fending for herself was no solution. He touched his tail-tip
to her shoulder. "Please just stay until we finish training? And then if you still don't want to stay with the clan, I'll let
you go." He looked at her pleadingly, his blue eyes wide and hopeful.
