Echo was curled up on the shore of Shark Fin beach. The water flowed against and around her body. Tears rolled down her cheeks. Her little brown paws were tucked under chin. She didn't want to be mean.

Seapaw watched Echopaw go. He silently followed her.

Wolfpaw looked at Cloudbreeze. "Don't go after her. She'd just bite your head off."
Echopaw cried some more.

Seapaw quietly approached her. "Echopaw?" The golden-and-black Tom called quietly. "Why are you crying?"

Flowerheart nods. "Yeah," she said. "By the way, I need to tell you something, something that I should have told you a long time ago."

Echopaw was about to snarl a nasty comment but sighed instead. Her light brown tabby fur was a little bit wet, so she stood up and shook it out gently so no water would get on the tom. "I'm always mean because my father died. I don't want to be mean. But I don't know how to stop. Me and Crowfur were really close. I know a father and his kits don't usually bond, but he saw something in me. Like I was special. He always brought out the good in me and now that he's gone there's nobody to bring it out." The little she cat sat and hung her head. "I bit Nightpaw today. I feel awful. Wolfpaw hates me now."

Seapaw sat down to listen. He nodded as she finished. "I understand. My entire family went missing two moons ago. You remember that, right? I remember your father. Just think-your siblings hurt, too. They might not have been close to him, but he was still their father. Maybe you just need to find someone else to 'bring out the good in you', as you put it." He gave her a reassuring nudge. "I'm sure they don't hate you. They'll understand. Maybe you should try telling them how you feel. Then that will help them see why you do what you do."

Echopaw smiled. "Thanks Seapaw. I remember that. Your whole family. I'm glad you didnt disappear. Somebody needed to bring out the good in me. I guess that's you."

The tom gave her a bright smile. "I sure am glad, too. Bit I don't like thinking about them not being here-only the times they were." He nudged her again. "Whad'ya to goin' back to camp and grabbin' a bite to eat, eh?"
