A bunch of old members most likely came back to the site for the summer event so a bunch more pets were reput into the system again. The rarities will most likely go back to normal a bit after the summer event but you never know what might happen.

Again I have to say that that is very unlikely. The rarity drops have happened several times in a row and I doubt people began being active for the summer event all those months ago. It also hasn't happened the other years we've had summer events so it makes no sense for it to happen now. Until we get an unofficial explanation what someone said about the rarity system being changed seems to be most likely.

But that would mean that instead of more accounts becoming active more must have become inactive and their pets ended up in the pound. It's a good theory, but I'm still hoping there will be an official explanation sometime in the near future.

That's true, but I was only saying why I didn't believe the explanation that accounts are suddenly becoming active and changing rarities. A lot of accounts being deleted does sound unlikely, but even more accounts being active again is even more unlikely. There would have to be a lot more if the second explanation was true since I believe rarities are counted by pets/accounts, so more accounts means fewer pets per account and the new active ones would have to have a massive amount of pets to make the rarities go down at all instead of just staying the same.

Accounts without pets in them being deleted would make rarities go up, I believe. What stumps me is that even recent pets have dropped. Like for an uncommon to drop to common, that's an absolutely huge amount of recent accounts that needed to be reactivated.

Same amount of pets + fewer accounts = lower rarities. At least it should unless I misunderstand how rarities are calculated.
