Should I put you down as Atheist? Right now, I'm leaving your religion blank.

PS: Love your username :)

Just leave it blank. x3
I have no true belief system, not even that of an Atheist or Agnostic.
I'm 19, I got allllll the time in the world to be figuring out that mumbo-jumbo, why tie myself down now? x]

And I love my username as well<3 8D
And I must say, it's absolutely hilarious to get a "Buy this Bible CD!" Google advert when on this topic. xD!

I'm very interested to see all the Atheists on your list as well. It's fascinating. I wonder how many of them were bought up around or in a religious house-hold, yet came to the belief later on in life that God(s) doesn't exists. I often find when talking to Atheists, that their parents were normally very religious people and in childhood they were pushed and feed a lot of religion. When they become older and start thinking for themselves, they really seem to go to the "extreme" opposite. xD now, I'm not trying to sound offensive to anyone's belief with this next comment, and I truly don't mean it to sound like it is; but I almost wonder if puberty plays a part in this. With all the hormones racing and the stress put on a teenager in this phase of life; they really see the world a lot differently from either a child or an adult, but I ramble. xD Ignore me~

In my case, my parents are both atheists as well - religion wasn't something that ever came up, and I was shocked when I hit around Grade Four and realized there were actually people who still believed in such things. I thought religion had died out in the forties. X3 My father is from a mildly religious background but he and all his siblings became atheists, though their parents were both religious and the extended family is extremely religious. My mother's parents were also atheists but raised in very religious families (they were both adopted), with my grandmother's line being comprised almost exclusively of Baptist ministers - I have a photo somewhere of her father as a child with his uncles and grandparents, and every grown man in the photo is of the cloth. That's thirteen ministers in two generations. o.O However, both of my grandparents on that side independently decided at a young age (five for my grandmother and about twelve for my grandfather) that there was no such thing as God. It was never really a case of being pressured too hard to be religious and rebelling, it was just a natural case of them applying reasoning to what they were being told and deciding it didn't make sense. Anyway, this belongs more in one of the religious discussion threads, but I thought I'd just give you my family's history regarding atheism since we cover a lot of different situations. :3

My dad is so uninterested in religion that he doesn't even count as an atheist - he just doesn't care.

My mother is a wicca, and she's never fed me any religion at all.

I've been an atheist since I was 11. Even back then I sat and stared out the window during religion
class, wondering when the fairytale lessons would end.

My reasoning to be an atheist, is the fact that I believe in science, not because I want to be 'extreme'
or different or radical.
For me proven science holds the truth, not a book that was written back when people thought
that if a person with a long name planted the seeds, the plants would also grow long ;]

Although I must say I agree with this Atwood on the "This would probably belong in the religion discussion threads".
I just had to defend myself because I find it a little... well.
I'm past puberty, and I still am an atheist. Always will be. And I became an atheist before I hit puberty.
So the assumption that atheism is caused by wanting to revolt against your parents
kind of sort of sounds a little annoying to me : P

^ Also important to note that human beings are born atheists, without a belief in gods, as they are born without any beliefs whatsoever ;D but I understand what you're saying; I labelled myself as an atheist as soon as I learnt the word really. /o/

My parents are both catholics, 'though my father doesn't really care what he is.He goes to church at December 24th, but except from that...My mother went to church every Sunday, but now she just goes whenever she wants to.[But I think that's not a problem with her belief, it's more about her health problems...]
I never really cared about my religion.I had lessons in school and I still have, but I was never a person who liked going to the church or something like that.Sometimes my mother wanted me to go, but I didn't, when I didn't have to.
I don't know when exactly I stopped believing in God.When i was younger, I prayed.I didn't do anything else for my religion.I just prayed, when I needed to.
But I never felt like it changed anything.I prayed less and less, later I stopped it.Life was't better or worse then.
I often thought about the whole thing, and I couln't remember that my religion ever made me feel better or at least good.
For me it was mainly one thing.
Why should I believe in a god that didn't do anything when things like world war I and II [especially the holocaust] happened or all those other wars all around the world? Some religious people told me that god warned us enough in the past [Adam & Eva, Noah etc.], but my question then was 'Is that a god I want to pray to? Everyone tells about that loving god and his son Jesus [he existed, yes, but what else?], but why doesn't that god do anything now?' Some people may have answers for that question, too, but they weren't enough for me.Either god doesn't exist - or he does and he isn't worth thinking about him for me.
My mother disliked my opinion at the beginning, but she felt that she couldn't change my mind.I am what I am and my life goes on as usual.Good times, bad times.

I don't want to offend or even hurt people with any religious beliefs.Everything I wrote is just what's my opinion.I don't have problems with people who believe.
Religion is interesting, one reason why I chose to still get school lessons.they're catholic lessons, but we have lots of people with different beliefs in our group and the discussions are never boring.

As an interesting side note, I have one great aunt who was hidden by the resistance in Holland during the war (same situation and age as Anne Frank, except she was shipped out of Amsterdam and survived), and one who went through Auschwitz as a teenager. The one who was hidden (who experienced the best of humanity through people willing to risk their lives to save strangers) can't bring herself to believe in God's mercy, because how could he let all those people die, and the one who went through the camp (seeing the absolute worst of people) became massively religious, because how could people've survived without him.

I always found it a weird and interesting dichotomy :)

I was raised an Orthodox Jew, but my family were always pretty lax. You can break Kosher rules (though not pig or seafood) when you go out to dinner, you don't have to keep Shabbat, you only go to shule on the High Holy Days, and even then it's just a token hour. As one of the only people with two Jewish parents in my year at primary school I felt obligated to be quite Jewish, and I really was. As soon as I got to highschool (a Jewish school) and was told that I could and should critically analyse religions to find the one for me I realised that Judaism actually didn't click with my morals, so I dumped it.

I think that adolescence should be a mush of beliefs personally. It's that turbulent phase where you should throw everything you have known about yourself into the air so that you can sift through it and all the other options to find what is right for you. It's also [potentially] the time when you start actually thinking in a semi-adult manner. If that means that you come out an atheist or agnostic then that is as good as if you come out some sort of theist. And if you go through an atheist 'phase' then that is good too...it'll probably strengthen your personality and your understanding of others in the future.
