3. got eaten alive (died)
My parrot fish and oscar are ripping up my cory cats fins as well as my pleco. is that a one time thing or should i move them? it hasnt happened again for a long time now, but thats what I thought with my ghost knife then he died.

Personally I wouldn't house an oscar with fish that it can/will potentially eat, as oscars are predators and have bit of bad reputation in that manner... Since oscars grown pretty darn big, it's not that easy to find tank mates for them that aren't going to get eaten... Some larger cichlids are probably fine and bigger full grown plecos.

Ok thanks . My pleco is fairly big and my parrot fish hasn't Gotten bit or anything at all yet because they are about the same size I might move her when he gets bigger.

Not actually a fish, but check out this handsome little 5" crayfish I picked up today! I had an empty, planted+established tank set up with no fish in it, and decided that he would do quite well to make it more interesting.



He's a little beat up from being kept in a small tank with cichlids and another crayfish, but over all is pretty good! I have algae wafers, shrimp pellets, catfish wafers, and plan to pick up a live minnow for him every now and then.

Do you guys know what else he'd enjoy? My crayfish used to love corn and earthworms, but that was six years ago...would these be safe to feed him?

How many gallons is your tank? : right now? 1 gallon. it was supposed to be a temporary tank for like, a week, and then we became very tight on money. now we have enough to buy.
How many fish and what types are they? : one fish, male veil tail beta.
How long has it been running? : about 4 months e.e
Did you cycle it? : yes
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : no idea.
What is the issue or question? :

Im wondering if a 5 gallon half moon tank would be acceptable? its for JUST the beta. no other fish x.x

if thats an acceptable tank, what accessories do we need? right now I have one small hide, and a small fake silk plant as well as some white gravel x.x

the current tank has air bubbles and a filter.

id like to replace the hide and maybe add more plants and a hide that has a few more holes and places to chill for mr.finley (dont judge me). any suggestions?

I have 5 bettas right now ( 1 veil tail male, 1 half moon male, 2 veil tail females, and a half moon female) and I say it depends on the fish. My half moon male loves his plastic plants but my veil tail male prefers a little cave. So buy a few different things you think he'll like and let him pick.

Well just great... At least one(though I think 2) of my corries has lost it's whiskers and one has some sort of light spot on it's neck. But I can't get a close enough look to figure out what sort of spot(like fungus, mold or white spot) or take a picture... -___- Not to mention it's Saturday and the only shop I might get some real help(diagnosing and medication vise) is possibly not open long enough.

He is such a pretty fish. Mine hides behind his plant(it has a heavy weight at the bottom so he cant shift it easily) and only comes out to strike food or to ram the pleco. I had an Oscar from a pet store that got in a huge fight with a regular catfish I had, he killed the catfish but lost his eye. Ever since he was super aggressive(could not put plecos that were over twice his size into the tank, he would shred them right then and there), the only fish we COULD keep with him was a rubberlip pleco(it was small, but it was a vicious little thing, he would fight back if attacked with his cheek spines). This Oscar is much more docile(though not overly docile with other cichlids, tried that already).

I also got my baby bichir. He is about four inches long and eats like a piglet. The store we got him from had four-five of them, most were tiny one inch white ones but they had a larger normal colored one. I chose him because the others were hiding but he was in the middle of the tank swimming around and being into everything, he seemed like the best candidate. They also had(did not pick one up but was tempted) baby white(not tiger, just albino)Oscars that were the size of an American quarter.

My oscar has the same colors, its the same species. how long have you had yours? Mine can be aggressive but is a pretty chill fish. the parrot-fish is who you have to worry about. he does sometimes chase my parrot fish out of his territory but lets her hide in the log. unlike my africans, the dominant fish chances them into the top corner of the tank...
@herpluvin I love albino fish! my pleco and cory cats are albino! i had a regular pleco but he started floating to the top and suffering so we flushed him but my albino is beautiful! i never knew they were albino plecos until i saw him.

This is my oscar: sorry its sideways i took the picture with my ipod.... The tank has a little algae thats hard to get off because its flat on the tank sides but with my pleco its not a problem.
