Her hunt was hardly successful with two mice in her belly and much more wandering in the open. A small group of finches pecked around in the field, tempting her to try for winged prey. She swallows hard, being extra careful to be quiet, low and soon quick. They pecked around carelessly as she made a quick dart and pounced into the small clearing between the large blades of grass and wheat. The flew up into the air, but for the first time she was faster. Hooking one in her claws, she brings it down and kills it swiftly. Heart racing, she squeaks with happiness before picking it up and heading back to her home. Back at the border, she climbs the tree and stores the bird in an old squirrel den.
