How long have you had him? Guppies don't have a very long lifespan.
About 9 months.

Guys, my betta Daniel has plummeted since I last posted about him not eating. He /did/ finally eat some pellets, but he is very lethargic and I actually mistook him for being dead earlier because of the way he was just lying on a plant and his fins are clamped most of the time.

Guppies live 1-2 years and since you buy them as an adult and you don't know how old he is, it's often they die of old age. As long as he wasn't picked on, has a loss of colour, or acted I'll before hand, I'd assume its age. I don't know about your betta, but I would check his pooo and see if its white and stringy. On another topic, my 60 gallon male African cichlid tank got CAMALLANUS!! A jewel cichlid from pet smart brought it in. Unfortunately, the tank shares a siphon with my other 30 gal cichlid tank. I didn't catch it early, as its only visible when they are infested! Surprisely, no causalities in either tank , even the jewel survived! I'm so glad and they've been worm- free for 3 weeks now!

EDIT: I apologise for not being specific enough in the information I gave.
I meant larger goldfish and small koi when I said they can get as big as koi.
I wasn't talking about the largest koi like some people seem to think I was.
Sorry for any confusion! In the future I won't bother helping just in case I'm not specific enough.
Removed my post so people that read the thread have less of a chance to be confused over my generalisation.
I don't agree with the neons needing a bigger tank for such a small school however.
Again, I'm sorry if I caused any confusion, that wasn't my intention.

Hey, guys! I'm a little bit worried about my betta, so I guess I'll ask here?
How many gallons is your tank? : I'm not 100% sure, but about 5.5, I think? (I got it from a friend who didn't want it anymore)
How many fish and what types are they? : 1 male betta, Augustus
How long has it been running? : For about...7 weeks, give or take?
Did you cycle it? : No
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : Last time I checked, ammonia: 0.25, nitrite: 0, nitrate: 5
What is the issue or question? : As of yesterday, Augustus has been swimming next to the surface all the time. When he finally manages to swim downwards, he kind of floats up? I'm thinking it's a bloat/swim bladder disease problem, so I fasted him yesterday, but this morning it looks about the same. He seems to be struggling to swim downwards, and tires himself out a lot. However, last night I did see him resting at the bottom too (which he does at night)...any tips? What do you think it could be?

Don't get an oranda for a 10 gallon at all. It's not an option. (sorry if that sounds harsh, I'm just saying)
That's a fancy goldfish, they need something like 30 gallons at least (if you want to know more on how to properly care for goldfish, I recommend pming
Dakotak if you really love goldfish and want one they're the most knowledgeable on goldfish and will let you know what you need for goldfish) and that's for a fancy. For other sorts of goldfish you need at least 50 gallons.
Stores that say they can be in smaller are just out to make money. A ten gallon is a jail cell for a goldfish, and a very tiny one at that. Goldfish are pond fish, they get as big as koi if you look after them right, they only stay small in a smaller tank because they're trying to survive despite the terrible conditions.
As for what fish go well with them...Well when they're big enough they're fine with koi in a large enough tank or pond.
I don't know anything else that can go with goldfish and have them all be happy, sorry.
For a tank your size you can get like one small school of some of the smaller tropical fish, so a single species tank.

(if you got like fifteen neon tetras they're very pretty and they'd be very happy in that sized school)
Or maybe a single betta and some snails/shrimp if the betta is one that isn't so aggressive and is fine with the snails/shrimp.
You could get some guppies if you want a lot of fish instead.
You can't have much in there, ten gallons are pretty small tank wise. ^.^''
Please don't give false information. Goldfish don't get nearly as big as koi. The biggest goldfish on record is 15 inches, though there is one that is believed to be slightly larger, where as a koi depending on the variety can reach 36 inches.
Orandas though usually don't get bigger than 12 inches. The general rule of thumb I go by with goldfish is 20 gallons for the initial goldfish and 10 gallons for each additional goldfish.
As far as other fish that can go with them, I usually recommend people stick with other goldfish. Different environment and dietary needs makes it difficult to mix them with other fish like tropical fish.
Also, no, 15 neons in a 10 gallon isn't a good idea. With tropical fish it's best to at the very minimum give your fish a gallon of space per inch of full grown fish. 15 neons would mean at the least 15 gallons.

Do you plan on getting a filter? I wouldn't recommend any fish without some sort of filtration.

On the topic of goldfish, I am planning on getting one for my 20 gallon I'm setting up. It has everything but the water (And fish, of course) in it. I wanted to know what kind of water is needed for goldfish. My tap water is hard water. I have done some research and it says that goldfish need hard water or atleast moderately hard water. My dad tells me not to use our tap water though because it has iron in it. So should I use soft water instead (though I have read that it can be bad for goldfish) or use the tap water?

He wasn't eating for a few days so I haven't noticed any poo since he ate yet. I'll be watching him though.
