Hey there guyssss... Is anyone interested in the TV show the 100? Its a sci-fi show about the recolonization of earth after nuclear war destroyed the earth's environment. I have a roleplay about it with two boy slots still open if anyone is interested. You don't need to watch the show to be in the roleplay... Just read through my thread and I can explain any holes in the plot if you have questions. here is the thread!

Also, if anyone wants a one-on-one for sci-fi plots I would love to do one. cx

I have two things that I want to ask:

1. How do you feel about premade characters?

2. What do you think about not capitalizing words in an RP's description? {Like this: dragons have taken over the land. the kingdom has fallen, and it is up to fifteen brave knights to save it. will they restore humanity to its former glory, or will they fall in a storm of ash and fire?}

Personally, I've found both of these to be somewhat irritating. But I want to hear other people's perspectives on the topic. :3

actually, i love premades if they're done well! whether it's just a role and a gender, or if you throw a bit of personality in there, as long as there's room for the characters to develop how the writers want them, i love them.

personally, i tend to stray away from capitalisation at all- i find using all lowercase is far more aesthetically pleasing.

I thought it was a good idea at first, the premade characters, because every once in a while it is a bit of challenge. It's not a character that you normally fall back on or something, sort of gets you out there and gives you a challenge to make this your own character using what you're given and challenge yourself to write different personalities.
However, its becoming quite... annoying? for lack of better word. It's all I see, almost every rp has premade characters, and sometimes I want to use my own characters. Its almost as if people don't even want to use their characters anymore, they just go use ones already half made for them, idk

if the intro to a rp is written without caps I won't even think about joining. To me writing has no correlation with being pleasing to the eye, and its just proper to have capitalization while writing.

1. I do find premade characters rather irritating, but only when they have the personality all written out and everything. I mean no offense to those who create/enjoy premade characters, but I just feel as if I'm trying to fit some kind of mold that the RP creator has created for me. I actually used to create premade characters, but I've stopped that now after realizing how some people (myself included) may dislike them.

2. The example you've given already makes me want to go and edit it with red pen. I know it could be a design choice, but it's a design choice that I personally do not particularly like. Call me a grammar freak all you want, but not capitalizing letters in descriptions rather bothers me.

Your questions reminded me of something I've wanted to ask the club for a while; have any of you noticed how pretty much all the (real-life, not anime/cartoon) faceclaims nowadays are mainly of white people/folk with light skin? I am not trying to be racist, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with white/light-skinned people nor using them as faceclaims, but has anybody noticed this trend? This also fits in with the topic of premade characters, because there are some creators who add faceclaims along with the premade characters, but nearly all these faceclaims are of white people.
Is there some sort of aversion to roleplaying characters of different races? It's been a while since I've seen someone who has a personal character that's asian/black etc.

I'm willing to bet that people's aversion to playing other races actually could stem from not wanting to be racist. Think about it this way: if you were to roleplay an Indian woman, and you had no clue what their culture was like, what their upbringing would be like, what physical differences they might have - you could easily come off as being ignorant white trash (or a similar insult) when in reality the race and its norms are so vastly different that you just have no idea. I'm sure there are people out there who look at dark-skinned characters and cringe at the thought of roleplaying them because the slightest misstep - maybe they saw 'dawg' too much or act too cocky or something - and people will jump down their throats barking "Racism!" Even if they are dark-skinned themselves.

i've had so much trouble finding non-white faceclaims that suit my characters! for my character artemius who i've just made recently, i scoured the fc help blog i usually use, but most of them were either singers [which usually are missing that something i need] or too old. it's a shame that there's not many easily accessable non-white faceclaims, really. :/

Thank you for answering, everyone! C:
I suppose I'll stop to put in my own answers.

How do you feel about premade characters?
I don't particularly enjoy them, but I have absolutely no problem if the only requirement is gender, a trait or two, and {if applicable} power. But once they get extremely detailed with personality and add in things like predetermined relationships/crushes, I start to feel uncomfortable. At a certain point, I feel as if they are no longer my characters. It can sometimes seem as if the owner would be happier if they wrote a novel, rather than created a roleplay. With detailed premade characters, the RP looses a measure of its freedom. Isn't the fun of an RP supposed to be that everyone's ideas spontaneously come together for a story?

What do you think about not capitalizing words in an RP's description?
I really dislike it. Even if it's well written, it gives me the impression that a kid is writing it. Not because of taste or anything, if just simply because it reminds me of when children forget to capitalize their letters. It's just difficult to read. For me, it's along the lines of deciding to exclude punctuation.
