Wolfstrike decided to go discuss tunnels Rabbitfur. He asked,"Do you think we should start a tunnel to the border near the frozen river? There aren't any tunnels near it currently."

(Yay! Thanks for getting my character involved straight away, too.)

Rabbitfur looked up as Wolfstrike appeared. The black and white tom flicked an ear thoughtfully.
"It depends on how close we dig to the river. The soil around rivers are usually rich in clay, which is soft, and could lead the tunnel to collapse. Are you thinking of having the tunnel connect to the river?"

Wolfstrike replied,"No, it would be disastrous if we did. The water would surely flood the tunnels and ruin camp. Too dangerous to have it go into the river... which means we have to be careful when digging. If only we could get to it without flooding the tunnels..."

Rabbitfur nodded, then perked.
"What about if there's a water storage den? It's much deeper than an average tunnel, like a belly. It's dug downwards, deeper than camp, so when water pools in, it won't flood camp. We can figure out how to control when water comes in, and how to seal it off so it won't flood."

Emberpaw woke to the sound of Lakesplash organizing things in the storage. She stretched and yawned before following her into the storage. Looking at the small pile she said, "Is that really all?"

Cliffstar had gotten tired of waiting and went on patrol by himself.

Wolfstrike thought about it and then responded,"I have an idea. What if the water storage den was separate from the rest of the tunnels, and wasn't connected? Then we have a tunnel that is connected to the rest come up nearby so we can get water from the non-connected tunnel."

Lakesplash answered,"Unfortunately, yes. But I suppose we shouldn't expect to find plentiful herbs in a territory like this."

Rabbitfur flicked his ears.
"If they're not connected, we may as well go above ground to get water. We could gather moss to line up the walls, so cats can drink from the moss and it won't flood camp."

Wolfstrike argued,"But right now, we get the water from snow. We could get actual river water instead. But what if your idea doesn't work? After all, what if the moss doesn't hold or the water overflows before we put moss in? We'll have to find a new camp if it doesn't work because it'll be underwater! My idea makes it so we get river water instead of snow water and the camp will certainly not flood!"
