They do. The raven dog had and there were several from back in 2011 that were rare for quite awhile. If enough users buy them, anything can happen.

It's a bit weird to think that when the year started I had 117 rare pets in my trade group, but because the rarities have just kept dropping update after update I only have 50 of them left as rares. I don't remember actually trading any of them, they have all been moved to uncommon trade group. The last time I remember rarities going up was after the update last december. It's so weird.

People such as myself may also be coming back online having been working towards their exams/finals for the last 6 months. I was not innactive but I was only logging in once a month, I'm sure some may have stopped logging in due to this!

The '11 griffon store pets were also rare for a long time, popular store pets have been rare quite a few times in the past c;

Green liontail also started out Rare. And stayed that way for a couple of updates before rising to the jeweled and non jeweled's very rare status.

Ah, that makes sense. Still, last year the rarities didn't dip quite this much, did they? Also I'd think the biggest draw would be the advent, especially the rerelease.

For me that explanation doesn't make sense. This has happened three times in a row now, so it's unlikely to be the summer event. It also hasn't happened any of the previous events, the only times rarities have gone down have been the update after the rerelease (and only that update, not all the following ones), and when the rarity system was redone. Either something like that has been done again, or something else is happening. Honestly, the only thing that would make sense is if a lot of accounts have been banned, or people have quit and had their accounts deleted and given away their pets. It's just really weird that this has been happening for months this year when it's very rarely happened before.

You're not crazy!
I have a FREE list for people who actually want vc and omgsc pets. Used to have only 31 pets in there and had just cleared out my other trade list to create this one. Now there are over a hundred vc's most of my uncommons are now common. Oh well. Like I said in my other post, better to have accuracy than false rarities and they make a lot more sense now.

Agreed. I think a bunch of accounts were finally fully deactivated and their pets put into "storage" before being divvied out in the next several pounds. But I thought ALL pets were counted, even ones waiting to be adopted from the pound and in inactive accounts? Ultimately though I think the rarities have never been more accurate than they are now. So... se la vie.

The pound functions as a regular account, so banning users would never affect the rarities.

Also, I could be mistaken, but I don't believe inactive accounts are deleted unless they are completely empty. So after six months the accounts no longer count towards rarities, but the account itself will never be deleted or disturbed if it has at least one pet on it.

Maybe they've just tweaked the system to make it more accurate? Or it could also be a sudden influx of users who have started summer break and come back to playing internet games. Although I don't recall this ever happening at the start of summer before...

If the account has been deleted and the pets have ended up on other accounts that could make the rarities go down. Of course it would have to happen to a lot of accounts to have this effect. If the pound is a regular account and banned users pets end up there then that should affect the rarities since there would be fewer accounts but the same amount of pets. (Unless banned accounts still count toward the total if they're not deleted, but that makes no sense.)

Wouldn't a system "tweak" only change the rarities that one update, not several after? I suppose that could mean that the system has been changed several times...

Reactivated accounts haven't managed to have this effect before, plus I think they would all have to have a lot of pets to make so many drop in rarity.

Edit: Wait, wasn't there an announcement when the rarity system was fixed last time? I don't actually remember....
