art by Rexodus [ dA ] Quirks ;;
Igneel is a very quirky fellow, surprisingly. For one, when he's frustrated instead of screaming he makes screeching noises- in mimicry of a dragons roar. Igneel's frustrated 'scree's are oddly high pitched, and quite honestly sound more like a pterodactyl than any variety of dragon. When upset he also tends to puff clouds of smoke through his nostrils, while he may not mean to. The reason behind this is the simple fact that when Igneel is frustrated or angry the fire inside of him heats up and flares- making itself larger and more aggressive. This causes the smoke from said flame to come out- in this case through the nostrils. In the same manner when Igneel coughs he'll commonly hack up a cloud of smoke in contrast to germs or mucus. Igneel also can't help but toast his food before eating it- unless of course it's sushi. Igneel can't stand cold climates, despite his dense fur and defensive scales. You may think that a dragon such as himself wouldn't be very environmentally sensitive- and you'd be quite right with that assumption. However, the reason Igneel can't be outside in the cold too much isn't nearly that simple. Igneel's body temperature is far higher than most other plumerians, in fact if other living things were to hit his natural body temperature they'd be diagnosed with a critical fever! Igneel doesn't suffer from being too hot, however if his body temperature drops too much the consequences can be quite severe- thus why Igneel has little tolerance for the cold. His dense body heat can keep him warm for a time, however long periods of time in the bitter cold are something Igneel simply can't do.

by chosendragon Hobbies ;;Believe it or not, Igneel is actually a very good chef. He spends quite a good deal of his time cooking his food and finding interesting ways to make it taste better- after all he's had plenty of time over the years to master his technique. When he was younger he used to practice controlling his flame by cooking food over it, if the food burned then he'd failed the exercise and he'd have to eat the burnt food and try again another day. From that he learned how to manipulate his flame to work for him and thus had his first few successes in cooking- it sort of stuck with him after that point on. Another of his hobbies is reading, more ancient or well aged literature than anything. Igneel has a taste for realistic fiction, murder novels and anything with a high amount of conflict and drama to keep him interested. That or factual literature, because Igneel also enjoys learning through his books. Whether it be life lessons or simple facts.

by qwertyo Pass Times ;;Whenever Igneel has a moment he likes to sit in his den and either read his old historical archives or watch historical documentaries and laugh at people trying to decipher the past. If you've yet to read Igneel's history, then once you do it'll make much more sense- however for the time being let's just say with so much background knowledge watching people flail and squirm over things they don't know or understand is hysterical for him. He also enjoys cramming his hobbies into his spare time, however his most leisurely activity would be either historical documentaries or simply free flying about as he tends to do when he's feeling particularly cramped or chained down. He also has a habit of collecting momentos and souvenirs of people he's known throughout his long life- so he'll never forget the bond they once had together and so their memory will live on in him.

by Pande28 Flames ;;Igneel's flames are completely under his control, most of the time. Occasionally with a sneeze or a cough he'll hiccup a bit of flame unintentionally- but not enough to actually harm anyone. When he conjures his own flame it's by no means a gargantuan inferno- but you know what they say about fire… Namely that it spreads quickly. Another odd trait about his fire- any fire that he lights, he has a vague amount of control over even after it's lit. He can extinguish it or make it burn brighter telepathically- though the power of control there is somewhat unreliable and unpredictable, it's really more a talent he developed from countless years of using his flame. He generally uses his fire conjuring ability to make
campfires and toast his meals over them, boil tea, or simply use them for heat in the cooler months.

by qwertyo How He Learned To Control It ;;Igneel learned how to control his flame by using several exercises when he had the time or was simply bored. He'd sit outside his cave, a row of three candles or something of the like before him- something he could burn in only one area and keep very concentrated so as not to incinerate the item in question. His favorite practice dummies for these exercises where candles, however. He tried to light every candle before him without burning them or melting them until puddles- but preserving them as burning candles without having destroyed them. Another exercise he'd practice would be cooking his food. Igneel caught fish and ate them for some time- as he'd yet to truly figure a good way to keep his hunger sated as his feather's orbs were a bit dysfunctional. He'd light a small fire and roast his fish over it. If they burned, then he still had to eat them- but now they were charcoal, not fish. Needless to say once the cooking method came along, he figured it out pretty quickly. After all, eating charcoal is not a pleasant experience, even for a dragon.

by Pande28 Pet Peeves ;; Nothing annoys Igneel more than people acting like they understand things beyond their comprehension. He thinks it's completely preposterous how others pretend to understand things like emotion and the past, especially when he knows these things all too well. He's also irritated by things such as false compassion or emotion, people feigning happiness or sorrow deeply annoys him. Igneel is also annoyed by human beings deteriorating the planet's ecosystem, however he only finds this annoying- not deeply troubling or infuriating because he figures human beings will die out sooner or later- after all they've only been on the earth a short while and the way they're continuing on they may not be around much longer.

by Cleverify Strengths ;;Intellect
Igneels major strong point would definitely be his knowledge on just about any subject. Seeing as he's been alive and kicking for a hysterical amount of time he's devoted lots of time to studies of various subjects and of course his favorite subject being history. He's especially sharp when it comes to core subjects, such as english, history, mathematics- etc. However his least favorite of the bunch would have to be anything to do with numbers. Again seeing as he was without numbers the longest- he has no problems adapting to languages. However having lived his life without a vast majority of numerical values he's not the handiest with them- especially with their constantly fluctuating symbols (roman numerals, clock faces, common values, etc.).
Empathy
Another major strong suit of Igneel is his ability to sense emotion in others. Again he's been around a long time, and can very easily tell by posture and context what someone's feeling. He also has a deep ability to understand and experience the emotions of others, which is the primary factor in his empathic properties. Igneel can seem rather dense, however when it comes to seeing someone sad- it commonly makes him feel a bit down as well. Same for someone being happy. Despite his generally cranky attitude, because of this trait he tends to gravitate to helping people and making them happy so he can see their emotional shift- after all when others are happy he feels the same way.
Courage
Igneel has a deep courage, not only because of his immortality but because of his understanding of how the world and it's properties work and function. He's very reliant and confident in his intellectual strength, and thus doesn't particularly worry about most things such as novel challenges. In fact he'll accept almost any challenge without any sort of hesitation due to his over competitive nature. His courage does have it's faults, however. Igneel's pretty terrified of any situation that could lead to his death, since he's not truly immortal. Of course he doesn't know this- but he's still wary of near-death situations. If it were to defend someone- then his courage would really shine. After all a man with a purpose is a force to be reckoned with. Especially when that man is a fire breathing dragon.

by FIREFLII Weaknesses ;;Socializing
Since he has a bit less language experience and communication with others he's not particularly good at socializing as a whole. Periodically conversations will still throw him off, as the way human beings and the sentient animals around them communicate is in constant change. Igneel's a man of relative stillness- he likes dependable things- something an ever-changing language certainly isn't. Sometimes he'll mix up his words or merge words mid-sentance unintentionally- or pause to recall what word he needs to describe the item or situation he's referring to. Another odd thing he tends to do is use oddly large or descriptive words for simple situations that have no real purpose being in the sentence. That or over exaggerating situations because of his larger words. Igneel also periodically slips into an older dialect, sometimes more renaissance oriented or old english- other times just odd wording.
'Immortality'
This is going to need a more winded explanation. After all idealistically it's not a bad thing, not at all. However after living for such a long period of time Igneel's developed a shorter temper and a more negative look on things, seeing as he's watched so many magnificent species die out before his eyes. He has a more pessimistic outlook on most things, though he generally tries to be positive if at all possible. Another reason this is a major weakness of his is his obvious loneliness- after all being one of the only truly immortal beings he doesn't really get to experience long-term relationships. After all the span of relative years for him is much longer than the apparent one for any other living being. (Please note, as specified earlier on Igneel is not actually immortal, he simply believes himself to be. He can die, however due to his 'dragon' essence his lifespan is much, much longer than the average plumerian- in fact his lifespan is more akin to a dragon.)
Greediness
Igneel's greed can be a negative thing for him, after all his massive hoard is also engrossed in his memories. He has souvenirs from various living creatures he knew when they were alive- companions and enemies, he has small trinkets from them stowed away in his hoard. His possessiveness over people can also be incredibly hard on him considering he gets so emotionally invested- and then they pass away while he's left to live. Again his negative and pessimistic streak come from these moments- however he still tries to remain optimistic and keep the thought and sentiment of those who passed on with him- like the trinkets in his hoard. He knows they wouldn't want him to be upset, so he carries on- meeting more people and living on each day with good things in mind.
