Tell my story. I was always a bright, brilliant red, and it was SO pretty, everyone admired my beauty, but it was but skin deep. I was hollow inside, nothing. one day, I went wandering, looking for a nice, reflective pond to look at myself in, or a nice smooth rock, to shine myself against, when I was accidentally bumped into some old tree, it was ugly and crumbly, yuck! I was getting up and brushing myself off, about to leave, when I heard a voice "Rose" my name it called, I looked around, where could it be coming from? "Rose" it repeated, more sternly. "w-wha-who are you?" I stuttered, looking about, trying to locate the voice's epicenter. "Rose, I'm right behind you" the voice said, it was sort of a sweet tone, mixed with wisdom and patience. Wait. Wisdom, patience, sweetness? I'd never recognized these tones before, why was I hearing them now? I turned around and the old tree had formed a face in it's bark, she looked ugly, but she was beautiful, wait, what? she was ugly on the outside and that was all that mattered, right? that's all that had ever mattered before, why should it change? "Hello?" I asked, still very curious about this tree. "why did you come here?" the tree asked "to find a smoother rock to rub myself against and a more reflective pond to look at myself in" I said, "but, it seems very strange that I, that anyone would go so far to look for that" she nodded "it does seem like a very silly thing, doesn't it?" she asked, then it was my turn to nod "then why did you?" she asked "I, I'm not sure, anymore" I answered, she nodded thoughtfully "What do you think of me?" she asked "what?" I said, she repeated herself, I shrugged "you're beautiful." I said, and I truly meant it, she wasn't the old ugly tree that she had been, she was young and amazing, her face no longer that of an old lady's, but a young and fair maiden "I haven't changed at all" she said, I tilted my head to the side "but" I started "close your eyes" she said "open them up and then close your mind, and your heart, look with ONLY your eyes" I did so, and she was old and ugly again, I didn't like this point of view, everything was less beautiful, through these eyes, it was all ugly, I looked at myself, I was pure red, and beautiful. I. Hated. It. I quickly opened my heart and mind back up "that was horrible" I said "That's how you've been seeing everything your whole life" she replied I was shocked, I guess I'd never realized it without true beauty to compare to my surroundings "exactly" she said "what?" I asked, "you're right" she said "with nothing to compare it to, you thought that the closed minded sights you'd been seeing were all there was, and adjusted quickly, but with having seen open minded beauty, you won't be able to close your mind and readjust, you're different now, go look at yourself, this time, with an open mind" I looked, I was pure, shining, nearly sparkling black, with bright violet eyes, much more stunning then I'd been before "will others still see my closed minded self?" I asked she shook her face "no" she said "you're heart and mind are strong enough to have slightly altered you, you're now partially black, and your eyes partially violet, try closing your mind and looking, but keeping your heart open" I looked, it was true, I wasn't ugly, but I wasn't stunning, but I was ok with that, I could see through to my heart, even with my mind close, I opened my mind back up and saw how I really looked, and padded back to the tree "under me" she said "and in any dark shade, you'll look like you should, black with violet eyes, but in the sun, only one with a truly open mind and heart, like you have, will be able to see you as you should be, everyone else will see you as partially red and partially black, ok?" she said/asked, I nodded. She vanished, and I noticed that her tree was the most beautiful tree in the forest, then I walked into the sun, and decided to change my name to Shimmering Violet.
