A five gallon tank is way to small for tetra and tetra are not live bearing young? Are you sure they're a species of tetra? Unless she layed egg(s) that hatched?

Now that you say it, I'm honestly not 100% sure it's a baby tetra... But that's what it looks like. I assumed it was cause its sleek like the tetras I have. It's also extremely tiny and transparent. I'm honestly not sure now...

And I only assumed 5 gallons. It maybe more, since I don't know, as nothing always on the box. All it said was size 5.

Can you get pictures? I'm sure someone can identify your fish. :) Also if you can get measurements of your tank (length, width, depth) we can tell you what size it is.

Ok, I'll get a few pictures and measurements tomorrow. Not now though, since I'm suppose to be asleep :3

bettas, when properly cared for, live to be around 4-6 years old. I had a male that lived five years in a tiny vase...but when I got him a bigger tank he stopped eating and chewed his fins up, so I put him back into his vase to live out his years. He died at the age of six...

Like the others have said, they can live 4-6 yrs but usually average at 3. I currently have an almost 5 yr old male.

I'm going to have to find a divider of some sort. I know we don't sell them at my store. Do you think there's a divider of some sort at Petsmart? If not, what do you recommend I use to make a divider out of? I wouldn't want something transparent, of course, because I wouldn't want to stress out the two fish out by them having to see each other constantly. But of course, I don't want to have it interrupt water flow where a heater or filter would be messed up. Any ideas? It's a Tetra 10gallon tank, the starter kit.

Oh! Okay, gotcha. I assumed he was living in the 10G right now, haha. Then definitely go for it! c:

I used a Top Fin tank divider. It worked very well for me and was snug. (I'd originally had craft mesh but didn't have a large enough piece, so the filter ended up moving some sand, and Daniel got under the divider and attacked Gallifrey.) The Top Fin one from petsmart works though. They /can/ see through it though, but if you put some plants to block their views, it'll help.

Shou is at least 3-4 years old. I got him my first year in college and despite being the daredevil he was when it moved out ( he decided to knock the lid off his shipping container and jump to the floor), he is still alive and kickin. Lol

Plus, I found a pretty little female crown tail beta that is the prettiest shade of light purple with dark purple on her fins. I want to breed them together. How do I know when they are ready?

Also, is it possible for Mollies and betas to breed? I have the female beta in with a single orange male mollie and now the female beta (who with the help of my fiancée, I named Quinn after the Jokers assistant) is extremely fat...mollies are live bearers...and betas are egg layers.. Is she just hogging all the food or have I by accident created a new species somehow?? Lol

I want a Betta fish, but I do not know what size tank I should keep it in.

I'm a previous Goldfish owner, and I just moved to a new house, and I plan on getting a Betta fish. I know Bettas can stay in little fish bowls, but I'm worried the little guy will not have enough room to swim. I also wonder what gender of Betta fish I should get. Female or Male? Please help!

Male if you want big pretty fins, Female if you don't want anything to flashy.

I keep mine in a 2.5, which is the smallest you should keep it in.(I'd have a bigger tank if I had the money and room though) And bowls aren't good for them from what I've heard, so keep it in a rectangular tank. Most people on the Fish Thread from what I've seen like to keep their Bettas in a 5-10 Gallon tank. C:
