Curio Batch 2

Postby doubleArrows » Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:32 am

Egg #1 is a small red egg with little horns scattered across the top half. It appears to have something similar to the pattern of a doily pulled over it. The bottom half has strange blue runes that glow gently.

To win this one, you have to come up with a short story of where it would have been born/what would have birthed it.
Ends June 24th.

Egg#2 is a large turquoise egg. I found it in a secluded forest glen, and was unable to detangle the mysterious vines from the egg. There is a thin band of golden writing on it. Even after I removed the egg from the clearing and brought it to the curio, it has dappled light falling on it from a place I cannot see and the light swirls over it as if it is still in the clearing.

To win this egg, please offer pets from my wishlist! Highest offer wins on July 22nd.

Super cute eggs, Arrows! :D
I might try out for the first one before I leave for vacation if I have the time.

You walk through the heady fog and you can barely see the light of the torch you hold out in front of you. Your scarf hangs limply over your shoulder and the idle wind can't do much to lift it, excepting the swaying tassels. Luckily, your foot touched the pillar of stone in front of you before you ran into it face first. The locals living in the quaint village at the base of the hill told you it was always like this up here on the hill, that the fog was nearly stifling, as if you had wandered straight into the clouds. You believed them, of course, but as an adventurer of your own right, you had every aspiration to see this austere forest for yourself.

The stone pillars jut out at even intervals and counting from the one you left your torch beside, there are six. Each one lights up with your touch, glimmering with a different anglo-saxon rune for a different letter. They spell out "ightsl"... but that can't be right. What kind of nonsense word is that? After you write the letters down, you realize you must have started at the second pillar and the true word was "lights"... but why?

The light bulb in your torch flashes and fizzles out with a brief pop. You pick up your torch and replace the bulb, but regardless, no light comes out. You begin to flip the switch frustratedly, but a deep gutteral growl stops you. You begin to back out of the pillars, but a wall of shimmering blue light stops you from retreating any further.

You hear the roar again, but this time, it is far closer than it was before. Suddenly, the fog is sucked out of the ring of pillars by a beast of monstrous proportions. It is bipedal and digitigrade, with a shaggy, almost lace-like mane. It has miniscule scars of runes cut into it that run up and down its flank. It is a storybook of a creature, spelled out in glowing runes. You can only make out a scrap of what they say before they morph in your vision and turn into garbled nonsense. Maybe you're not meant to read them?

It huffs a plume of fog and you notice the sharp spikes jutting from its forehead and those that trail down its spine, ending in a mace-like ball of the hardened bone at the end of its tail. It certainly wouldn't want to be something you cross in a fight.

It stalks nearer, and you've backed yourself against the wall. When you try to run, it huffs some fog into your eyes and you can't see well enough to run very far. Strangely, instead of trapping you and clubbing you with its tail, it offers you an egg that is no larger than your satchel and you cradle it in your hands gently. Why? The beast's eyes swim with emotion and it lets out a choked roar. Is it... sobbing? The fog returns gradually as the beast lets it all return from its belly. You eventually lose sight of the beast and much of everything else around you. Then, the wall of energy falls away. You catch yourself from falling and take off your scarf to pad your satchel so you can hold the egg without hurting yourself on the spikes and to prevent from cracking it. After you cocoon the egg and hold the satchel tenderly, you walk out, mystified, and return to the village.
