I went to the beach went I was 4-6 and got a bunch of shells before the beach was so over crowded it was impossible to find any un-broken ones, and brought some home. I just now found them again, and wanted to put them in my fish tanks. If I boil them, will they be safe to put in the tanks?

I'm pretty sure the shells will release calcium into the water or do something to the ph.
If your tank isn't a saltwater tank, I wouldn't put them in there.

I was afraid of that. I asked my mom, she said it'd be okay, but then again... all her fish die. So I decided to ask here, since that seems like a safer way to go.

When I was feeling them they were kinda chalky on the inside so I really decided it would be best to ask. Thank you, I'll just put them back away then. C:

Me neither x3 Java ferns, you say? Aren't they the types that goldfish don't eat?

The top one looks like some sort of bacopa. The bottom ones are definitely java fern.

Has anyone here tried to grow dwarf hairgrass?

I just got some dwarf hairgrass today after wanting it for years. It looks okay so far, but that's not really a good indicator. It was hard to anchor in my coarse gravel

Hey guys, what's the best way to heal a tear in a tail?

One of my goldfish (a comet) recently acquired a tear in her tail. It's not ragged or anything, just one long clean tear.
It doesn't seem to be healing by itself, but there's nothing wrong with it or the fish in general either.
It was just torn on a plastic plant that I've been wondering about removing for a while since it is slightly sharp on the edges, although it has caused no damage before this time, and I don't know for certain it was that since I didn't witness the injury.
The tear is at least a week old, more like 1-2 weeks old or more. I only noticed it last week.

I know there's many different ways to heal damage to fins, but I just wanted to hear what everyone considers the best way to heal a tear.

Clean water will be the best. It will heal in a day or two.
