A place to discuss plot ideas, relationships, the House Tournament and completely random topics in our Hogwarts roleplay. Introductions are important, so maybe start by introducing yourselves and the characters you play so we can all get a feel for what is going on. Then we'll dive in to the topics mentioned above. After all, roleplays are no fun if you're not actually interacting with the roleplayers, right? Feel free to ask any questions on this thread too!

What I would love is to hear your opinions or first impressions of what the roleplay will be about and what you would like to see happen in it. If you have any suggestions for the tasks let me know, as I'm always on the lookout for better tasks for our contestants to complete. Also, if you know of anyone who might be interested in joining us, feel free to invite them to take a look. The sooner we get more people the join the faster we can't start, meaning that we're not just sitting around waiting.

Hey, I'm nan and my characters are the half-siblings Tyler and Phoenix Brookstone. Tyler will be the Gryffindor contestant. He is over all a very happy and bright person, charming and a liver. Phoenix is quiet but very intelligent and talented when it comes to spells and charms. I think the most important things can be read in their forms and everything else will play out xD

Really happy for this roleplay and can't wait to start. The format is really great and I think the mixture of the contest and that the houses have to work together is a great idea.

Oh goodness, I totally forgot to post an introduction of myself and my characters... Right after writing that intro above too, in which I clearly stated that everyone should introduce themselves. Go me.

Anyway, I'm Spirited. I came up with the idea for this roleplay at random because I'm almost finished with high school (two exams left to go!) and wanted to start a new one. I haven't had very much time for my fandoms recently, most of all Harry Potter, and I've been finding myself missing the magic and beauty of it. So, that's why we're all here now, I guess - I got bored and decided to put my overly active imagination to good use.

My characters are shiny and new, so I don't really know them very well yet, but I'm sure I will once we get started. Alexander Kent, or Xander, the male Slytherin contestant, is best described as reckless and hot-tempered, but also adventurous - always seeking that adrenaline rush - and quick to react. He is the captain of the duelling club (if anyone else would like to join it?) and is also a chaser on the Slytherin Quidditch team. Vivianne Kyna Finnegan, or Viv as she is called by friends, is pretty much the opposite of Xander in that she is hard-working and perfectionistic, as well as very clever. She loves all sorts of magical creatures, regardless of how dangerous they might be, and always jumps at the chance to solve riddles and puzzles.

I also managed to match up their wand woods and cores to their personalities quite nicely, which I'm super happy about ^.^

I'll probably be posting some of my task ideas soon just to gain some input or suggestions on how to improve them or change them altogether, so start getting your thinking caps on!

hey, i am little feather but you can call me red (don't ask), i am happy with any nickname though and most people call me feather.

i play the persuasive and sly aj rowan (ravenclaw) and his feisty and sassy half sister emma-leigh rowan (gryffindor contestant).

i am australian so i go by aest and it is currently winter so no summer holidays (not that we have them anyway, the closet thing we have is the eight week christmas holidays then three two week holidays spread throughout the year), i do have school on but i put a lot of time and effort into my role playing so don't worry about my activity.

@~nan~ i was thinking that aj and phoenix could be friends? and maybe a competitive brotherly sisterly friendship between tyler and emma

@spirited. maybe a friendship between emma and viv and friendship between xander and aj. also i know it is far ahead but could emma and xander eventually have a relationship, if you want to just see how it plays out that's fine i am just putting it out there.

Emma and Viv would definitely get along well! Except Emma's friendship with Tyler could make Viv feel lonely at times? Or Viv and Tyler could end up having a thing? I'm not sure.

Xander and AJ would get into all sorts of trouble - I'm not sure I even want to imagine it Since the two of them are also prone to doing things against school rules, perhaps they could form a plot during the tournament to take out one of the other contestants? Break his arm or something? Since they both play Quidditch, they could plan it all out so that it happened while they were playing a game, therefore removing them from the list of suspects. I feel like the two of them would be impulsive and sly enough to go over with something like that. Also, with AJ and Phoenix being friends, and Phoenix and Xander being in the same house, they could have this little shady trio thing going on (for lack of a better title xD).

As for Emma and Xander - I think that would work pretty well. It would be one of those "I hate you; just kidding, I love you!" kind of things. They're my favourite to roleplay ^.^ Let's not plan that too far ahead though, just in case it doesn't work out.

oh and something else: What will be the start. All the contestants and companions are chosen, so not at the direct start.
And for the patronus, can we decide ourself which one we want for our characters? Because I already would know the one for Tyler and Phoenix.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves with the relationship planning just yet, I don't want everyone else to feel left out! It's also hard to have characters be friends with a lot of different people, so maybe we should wait for others to post before planning out which characters will be close friends vs. acquaintances. Enemies are great too, as that adds more drama For example, I'm going to make Viv absolutely hate Xander and, therefore by extension, AJ as well. Which will be interesting because Emma is one of her close friends and he's her half-brother.

About patronuses: yes, you may pick your own! Keep in mind that the animal forms should reflect the character's personality. Just make sure you don't post them anywhere on your form or in the roleplay so that others are kept in the dark. I was planning on making them part of one of the tasks.

Which leads me to the tasks. I have some ideas, but am open to others. As posted in the intro of the roleplay, these tasks are based more on skills than on points or whether the task was completed or won. It's still important, of course, but the roleplay is more based on character relations than winning. "A Different Kind of Magic" could perhaps be the magic of friendship (cheesy, I know ). But it is something a lot of the Harry Potter series is based around.

1) Based on the skills of navigation, attack and defense. I was thinking the pair of contestants from each House would be transported by portkey to various locations in the Forbidden Forest. They would have a crudely drawn map with them that would need to be deciphered in order to get to the final destination. This destination would be the center of the forest, where there would be only ONE portkey that would transport everyone back. It would, however, be guarded by an Acromantula swarm (which has been growing rowdy since the death of Aragog) and the contestants would have to use the skills learned in Defence Against the Dark Arts/Charms/Transfiguration in order to defeat them.

2) A task based on observance, intelligence and study of character. This is where I wanted to work the patronuses in. Basically, every contestant would be paired up with one of the opposite gender in a different House. There would be a set time period (either 3 days or a week) which they would have to spend together, learning about each other's character qualities and just getting to know each other. At the end of this period, each contestant would be put through a test about the other's personality and, at the end, would have to make an educated guess as to what their patronus form is. This is a really rough idea and is not necessarily "dangerous", as most of the tasks are, but it is, in a sense, dangerous to the walls and prejudices some characters may have against the other houses.

3) A task based on cooperation, intelligence, ability to multi-task and attack and defense. The contestants would be put in the Chamber of Secrets, which no longer houses the basilisk, but has become the home of a Kelpie and a flock of Erklings. They would be given a riddle as to what they are searching for and would not be able to get out of the chamber until they had found it. The hidden "objects" would, of course, be their companions (I really wanted to do something like the Lake task, sorry guys ^.^). However, there is a catch: they are not allowed to rescue their own companion or someone of the same house. With so many things to do at once, the contestants would have to work together in order to make it out alive.

Again, these are really rough ideas and I would love some input or opinions on them. I think it would make sense for the characters to refuse to work together in the first task, which would drive the committee to making the second task one where they are forced to get to know each other if they so much as want a chance of winning. Then, the third task would help them see that working together really is something worth doing. I was also thinking of Dementors somehow appearing in the third task so that the whole patronus thing in the second task would continue on.


As for where we are starting - where do you guys want to start? We could either start 1) right after the choosing ceremony, which would have happened at dinner, 2) the morning following the choosing or, 3) jump right into the first task. I feel like the second choice would be best, as we could get started on the plot without worrying about time-skipping to the morning. Just have leftover emotions or flashbacks of the night before in our posts?

Hi guys, my characters are the shy Hufflepuff Lyssa, and the quiet Gryffindor Sam (their forms are not yet posted but I shall soon be posting them,). I hadn't really thought about who I would like either of them to be friends with, or who they would be in relationships with. I think that the tasks sound great so far, and I especially like the idea for task two as I think the guessing part will be very intriguing. I think the morning after the choosing is the best place to start because it gives characters time to meet before the first task however it's up to you.

With the second task it is good but I think we should add some danger like maybe then stuck in a massive building with Dementors in certain rooms and any light they try to make will only be able to get three meters in front of them. The object would to get out of the building. I can just imagine someone like AJ and Xander would when they found the exit would let all the dementors out into the house XD
