Two Ways to Role Play.

Postby NerdyGirl3000 » Sat Jun 14, 2014 9:24 am

Hi there everyone! I have been seeing people in my role plays and others role plays that I have been stalking role playing not in my style. It is driving me absolutely crazy when there are the two types clashing in a single roleplay. Not only is it annoying, it makes reading them hard. So, I have decided to make this. Two ways to role play! I will be posting the link in my signature.

So, let's start.
First way (Most common)
" means that your character is talking. (Ex. '"Hi!" John said.')
, means that there is a pause, but it is not the end of the sentence. (Ex. 'John ate some of he sandwich, but not all of it.')
. Means the end of a sentence. (Ex. 'John ate a sandwich.')
! Means the end of an exciting and/or emotional sentence! (Ex. 'John loved his sandwich!')
? Means the end of a sentence containing a question. (Ex. '"Why?" John asked Amy.')
's means the character takes ownership (Ex. "That is Joe's hat," John told Amy.')
Capitalization should be used on names and the beginning of any sentence.
Only go into first person if the owner allows it. It annoys a lot of people, and if the owner says no, he means it. First person= "Hi!" I said. Third person= "Hi!" John said.
Always put your character's name in your post!! Good= John ate a sandwich. Bad= He ate a sandwich.
If you use incorrect grammar or spelling, don't leave it be. Fix it.
Don't powerplay. A kit ripping out a throat? That can't happen, and is called powerplaying.
Don't godmod!
* Is not used in this form of Role Play.

Second way (Least common)

* means the character is not talking.
, means that there is a pause, but it is not the end of the sentence. (Ex. 'John ate some of he sandwich, but not all of it.')
. Means the end of a sentence. (Ex. 'John ate a sandwich.')

I will add to this as I think of things.

If you can think of anything else, please post it below.

Thanks so much for reading!

Re: How to correctly role play

Here, I hate people who do this:

Someone wrote: I yawned Hi I said quietly putting my shoes on.

Don't ever go First person
or use said
Unless like: "Suzie said..."

Okay, so I usually post by putting my character's name above whatever I type for them but I hate when people don't put their character's name in the post AT ALL.

Ooh! And I hate when someone doesn't fix their grammar on big mess-ups and something like animal turns into amimql or something..

I don't quite agree that first person should never be used. Plenty of even literate roleplayers write in the first person, and there's nothing wrong with it, as long as you pick one tense and stick with it.
